Dealers are really eating crow on all the markups they were trying to push. I tried to get a 392 widebody charger- dealer tried taking on a $10k MSRP - i walked away. They keep texting me till this day (a month later) - told me they would sell at MSRP (event though website advertised price slashed $5k off) Then they said they would honor the web pricing - i check the PO - and they tacked on a $2500 markup - i walked away again. In the Charger/Challenger case it is mostly the dealers fault for tacking on ridiculous markups and the increases interest rates do NOT help either.

Stellantis is a Franco-Italian conglomerate. They put Carlos Tavares (look him up, especially under Carlos Ghosn @ Renault/Nissan & their 'handiwork') at the helm for a reason. They are running it like they want to, and they do not care. They got rid over over 400 engineers, moving their responsibilities to engineers in Europe & South America. They are purposely killing off the domestic production, especially since the UAW strike. Crank up out, let them sit, go "Broke," Chapter 11, sluff off most UAW production & shift it off shore as much as possible. China is making auto plants in Mexico & are planning to flood the North American market within a few years. They will succeed with the way DC and automakers here think & play the game

Of course a vehicle sitting for long periods is never good, but you don't need to replace rotors & pads just for surface rust. That rotor rust can form within a few hours after just washing your car or after driven in the rain, and will be gone on the next trip. Battery deterioration is a legitimate concern as well as the effects of acid rain and UV rays on the paint & weatherstripping, and potential UV damage to the interior, including shortening of the life of the dashboard & fading of the fabrics. The '23 Scat Pack I just bought had been sitting on the lot for 10 months. The battery had to be replaced. With dirt and dust blowing over, under, around and through that car for that long EVERY nook and cranny had dust in it. It looked like a prop for an old western movie. They actually tried to deliver it COVERED with hard water spots. Had to make a stink to get those removed. The engine bay was filthy. But I'd shopped for over a year and was finally happy with both the color and the price. They'll tell you anything to get it sold, like they told me they'd clean the engine bay (they didn't). But it's just as well because I didn't need some idiot getting under there with a pressure washer. Personally I think if you get the dealer to promise to give the car the once-over, they will promise and they won't do diddly. They aren't going to put one more cent into these cars than they absolutely have to. Good subject to cover Racer, thanks.

High performance vehicles aside; the price of the average automobile is out of range of the average worker. I told my grandson back in 2017, "it won't be long till most people can't afford a new vehicle". Even the prices on used vehicles are ridiculous! Between dealers trying to screw their customers, CEOs and Executives making multi million dollar salaries, and labor unions wanting more and more money for working less time; this isn't going to end well. The worst thing you can to any car, new or old. Is let them sit for long periods of time or with very little use. You see this issue really bad with classic car owners. All these nicely restored cars, but they keep breaking down or overheating. The owner gets nervous about driving it, so it sits, which just amplifies the issues. Then you find out the guy barely drives it 1000 miles a year and has done this for years. Sometimes it only see's a few hundred.
@TheOzthewiz5 ай бұрын
The 1000 miles a year is NOT the problem. It is how OFTEN the car is driven! Most owner's manuals will tell you to move the car AT LEAST 15', EVERY TWO WEEKS! This came out of a Lincoln MKZ owner's manual! I am retired, therefore I do not drive more than about 2000 miles a year, but EVERY trip I make is at least 10 miles without shutting off the engine. My "garage queen" is VERY happy with the way she is being treated! lol

I told them that’s pretty high for a 6.4 and they were so arrogant to me and said we’re charging this much because we can and I said just because you can does not mean you should and I walked out. They said we don’t have to lower the price. We’ll get it for that much, and maybe even more. I decided to spend about 12 and put a supercharger on it. Prior to buying my current 2021 Scat Pack Challenger (purchased used in Feb 2024), I bought a brand new (leftover) 2022 R/T Challenger in May of 2023. The build date on the R/T was June 2022 and it had only 18 miles on the odometer when I bought it. At the time, it worried me that it had sat for nearly a year on the lot. Thankfully, I did not notice anything off about it. The paint still looked new, the dash looked new, still had the new car smell, no flat spots on tires, battery was strong, etc. Anyway, as a precaution, during the 500-mile break in, the first 50 miles, I took it extra carefully...literally trying not to go over 2500 rpm (which was not easy in a manual transmission car). I'd recommend similar for anyone buying a new 2023 model now...particularly for the Scat Packs and Hellcats, which have an even stricter 1500-mile break in period than the R/T's 500-mile one.

Yes the tread looks new but they need to be driven a little to stay supple. Weather and ozone can cause micro cracks. Tires have the date they were made on the sidewall. Just visit a Ford dealership, crawl underneath the trucks, you can see where they drove through salt to the lot if it was made in winter. The truck will be completely rusted underneath. They still charge full price. Thats from Ford storing them. Years ago when I sold cars, we moved cars around every day, And once a month we completely rearranged the lot.

Great video & points about lot rot. You also should consider since the industry switched to a soy based wire covering for vehicle harnesses; MICE. Having antiques, I know, the little creatures can get into all kinds of places in vehicles. They will chew up plastics, plug wires, harnesses, build little nests inside seats, chew up carpeting for the nests. Yeah, if vehicles sit long enough, they can destroy a car.

I'm in Canada and my Mustang GT sat at the dealership for 13 months. It was discounted $12000 and has the 301A package, active exhaust and performance package with spoiler delete so it was a great deal. I was concerned about lot rot but I've owned it for 5 years now and it's been a great car. It did have 350 km on it so at least it was driven a bit.

In 2016, I saw 2 Challenger Scat Packs on a delivery truck pulling into the dealership. One Black one and one Orange one. I pulled into the dealership and parked by the delivery truck. A few sales people were standing there and I said, I want that orange one right now. I drove it off the lot in less than 2 hours after seeing it on the truck.

I wanted to buy a Power Wagon a year ago. Out of 5 dealers I called to try and place a factory order, only one called me back and they told me they wouldn't commit to selling it at MSRP. I ordered a Land Rover Defender for a similar (within $5k) MSRP, and JLR committed to selling it at that price. The first JLR I called placed the order immediately. CDJR and their dealers have done this to themselves and they deserve the fallout from it, for years.

I would never buy a "new" car that has been sitting one year let alone two years -your just asking for problems. A Dodge dealership in Titusville PA were knocking 24K off a 2023 Ram 1500 Limited in order to sell it. They had two 2023 Ram pickups with lesser trim and were knocking off 16K off the sticker. Stellantis has priced their cars and trucks and especially Jeeps out of the realm of possibility of average buyer in this USA. We are at the end of 1st quarter of 2024 and these dealerships have rows and rows of leftover 2023's. Dealerships are either going to have to drastically slash their prices, or their Dealer floorplan interest will adversely effect their bottomline. I say let them SUFFER.

39 year mechanic here. In my opinion there are 3 factors for lot rot #1 over production, #2 Shite cars with to much computor intergration, #3 over pricing. It amazes me that the auto makers are selling any car at all right now. I recently saw a good example of over intergration of computor electronics in an F150. The truck had a cracked tail light lens, water got into the LED light and shorted it out. this led to a series of failures, heater fan, a/c, wipers, then the truck would no longer start. $4500.00 dollars later the truck is repaired. My first question is why are the lights intergrated into the comupter? Answer because we are to F...king lazy to turn the lights on manually. Why do we need LED light in the first place? answer we don't. LED light in your house save energy this is irrelevant in your car. So why are any of these functions tied into the computor? Answer, it's because we are to F...king lazy to operate these fuction manually. The real issue here is going to be repair costs on these modern auto's take that F 150 when that truck is 10 years old who in there right mind is going to spend $4500.00 to fix this problem when your lucky if the whole truck is worth $4500.00.They're not, they're going to scrap it. As far as i'm concerned we should leave them rotting on the lot until the auto makers smartin up. You could not give me a new Vehicle, the build quality is SHITE and they depreciate way to fast.

I've just got to check rubber moldings for dry rot cracking the rubber seals in the door jambs trunk jams because those deals have been compressed for so many days that now that is what they call fit form finish meaning that item whatever it is has now been fitted to form where it has been for so many days. And as he says if the dealer won't do these things simply walk away because if they're not willing to do these things in the beginning they are definitely not going to help you with things in the in the future even under warranty

electric cars are great, If they fit your lifestyle and you have all the accommodations you need to have an electric car. Most people do not. My brother has one, but he's now getting bored with it. But that's just my brother. My brother, in-law owns a business. He bought 8 of them. Model S model X a couple of them being plaids. They now have 2 of them left, They were just too difficult to use for a business. But electric cars definitely have their place. That's for sure. You just need to be pretty well set in life to own one.

w00t! the Hornet has went down 200 days. Either it has been selling more or they just stopped production lol. As for dealers most if not all will have a location tagged to the stock number. Ask your salesperson (do not just take their word for it) to show you the paper work. Ask to see the dealer policy regarding how long a car sits before any kind of recon eval is done to it. Some larger dealers might use GPS as well if they have a lot of inventory. Lastly if a dealership has an abundance of overflow maybe just maybe they are not following their own policies especially if that meant having to hire extra bodies to keep up with the work load.

My 2007 Ram i bought new it was on the lot probably close to a year because of the gas prices at the time. Acid rain damage was bad on every flat surface and it really looked bad on the chrome grill up front anyway they buffed it and polished the grill also.The other issue it had that led to repainting the tail gate was a thing called rail rust from the train wheels spitting bits of metal so they say but it left pin holes in the tail gate that were starting to bleed rust they stripped it primed it and painted it within the first month i had it but yup lot rot is a real problem.

Sitting is much worse than driving. (Lifelong mechanic here, jet fighters on down.) Lot rot is easily avoided by not being silly enough to buy "new" cars. Buying a "new" ride before your home and land and retirement investments aren't paid off is generally a terrible idea so I didn't. The biggest financial problem with buying "new" is it's typically a thoroughly silly choice. If you have new vehicle money and still work for living, why are you still working for a living?
