(21:23) Fun fact: Some fish (like bull sharks and salmon) are adapted to switch between saltwater and freshwater, so maybe tritons can do do that too.

I have to admit, I've been asked by my DM to create a triton, as my first character took a crit last session. You guys have been of a lot of help! Helped me get some clarity around a few things, and definitely gave me a very clear picture of my character, thanks :)

I have a Triton character named rina who's a bard and I made her not knowing much about Triton culture because we couldn't find much so I used the excuse that because rinas mom was human and her dad left that she doesn't really know much about her Triton culture and she was raised mostly on land in a circus with her mom her mom's a human and taught her to sing and she has a step dad who is a dragonborn who taught her how to fight so I call her my BARDbarian

I just started playing recently, and my first character is a Triton. I'm really enjoying it so far. My DM was more than happy to help me look for all the stats and info, since he hasn't really had anyone play a Triton in his campaigns.

i love when people talk about races almost no one plays. i like to think of tritons getting really stressed with the concept of climbing and jumping, yeah they use that motion on rocks to accelerate underwater but jumping just lands you on the same place and most of the time you have to keep the balance or you go face first to the floor or having to climb something instead of swimming over it and suddenly being concious of heighs. also underwater fireball would turn into steamball and have at least 4 times the area of effect and a pushing effect.

Exactly I really don’t like the race it seems very odd so I took some of the stats I liked mainly the +1 Str +1 Con and +1 Cha and I created a Zora race from the Legend of Zelda

I'm wondering where the tail comes from that's mentioned in 1:19. I've read the AD&D 2e's books Monster Mythology and Sea of Fallen Stars, and they didn't have tails in those books either.

In older editions, fireball was described as a small red bead that launches through the air and explodes on impact.

In my version of the Sword Coast, I stole the idea of the Brine Kingdom from the Aquaman movie. Where they are a species of sentient crab men. Where they possess long thought dead knowledge and essentially horde information. While at the same time, manage to keep some aquatic creatures in check. That was until the Triton expedition arrived in Faerun. Feeling like there is an invasion, the Brine Kingdom declared war on the Tritons as it was a misunderstanding between the races. I had a small mini-campaign of adventurers figuring out it was a Kraken cult that has been operating false flag attacks between the Brine and Triton when both sides attempted to trade with the surface dwellers. That was how things were until I had a player that wanted to play a Simic Hybrid. So I had to add more lore that there is a settlement that is conducting research on aquatic infusion magic by a mage organization. A player decided to be a 'volunteer' to get aquatic features. So that means I had to include more Triton and Brine lore. Overall, I liked the Tritons because the ocean is an intimidating and harsh enough place.

well there is such thing as underwater volcanos that do burn underwater, its like super hot boiled water that melts flesh! But also for DND theres different type of fire magics! Elemental, Hell, Phoneix, and Solar. I think Hell / Solar would be fine underwater.

Can I create a half triton?

Not RAW. Ask your dm to reflavour a half elf with the aquatic variant (I think the variant half elves are in xanathars?) Drop fey ancestry and dark vision pick up emissary of the sea and guardian of the depths instead. Do not take control air and water, you are only half triton, not full. Pick strength and con (you already get +2 cha from half elf) should be balanced.
