How To: Chopping Model A Roadster Windshield Posts
What's going on people! This really isn't a how to its just me explaining how I did these. I think it was a good idea for a jig and it really didn't take much time at all so if you are chopping your roadster posts I hope you learn something and it works for you!

Nice work there again! That jig sure was a good idea. 5,5 inches is a lot for chopping something like that, but the customer is always right, they say...

Great job, but I think to short. As long as your customer is happy, that's all that matters.

That jig is a good idea. If I was chopping them I would cut just below the top " ball" and measure up from the bottom to your 5 1/2 inch and weld it. No widening or narrowing. The stanshion would be wider at the top but that's fine.

Yeah that way would work too apples to oranges I guess

Afternoon Travis, the jig idea is the way to go, I'm a huge believer in them... with all of the laying out & hole drilling you do a height gage would do you well, I need one...I am very fortunate, I have machine shop access when ever I need it, only problem it requires a large lunch box(Lol)..

Yeah that would help, maybe use another hole in the center as a height gauge.

Like your thought process, make a jig heavy enough to not bend, fits original and adjustable for any length. Finished job looks great! When labeling I tend to leave the vowels out ie: wndshld pst instead of windshield post

The jig was a fantastic idea. Welding the upper post directly to the bottom definitely looks way better than cutting it through the center and trying to blend the two transitions. Great job!
@RACGARAGE
@RACGARAGE 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah everyone seems to think cutting through the center is the way to go. I don’t think so anymore

What a hell of a waste of original parts. Get some repro parts to cut up. The work looks great though.
