Rachel Bloom explains how Mossad agents tracked down high-ranking Nazi officer Adolf Eichmann in the wake of World War II.
About Drunk History:
Based on the popular web series, Drunk History is the liquored-up narration of our nation's history. Host Derek Waters, along with an ever-changing cast of actors and comedians, travels across the country to present the rich tales that every city in this land has to offer. Booze helps bring out the truth. It's just that sometimes the truth is a little incoherent.

the video failed to mention that Israel essentially abolished capital punishment in the '50s, so the decision to execute Eichmann was rather controversial. all other Nazis captured by Israel after Eichmann received life sentences, and Eichmann was the last person to receive the death penalty in Israel.

@@bruck2723 there were a lot of german villages in argentina, brazil and chile because of massive european immigration at the start of the 20th century (and during the first and second world wars), so for a lot of Nazis it meant moving to a place that was familiar (there were a lot of towns with mostly German immigrants who spoke German and continued German traditions) but in a country that they could easily hide in

Actually, Eichmann's son's father-in-law didn't call the Mossad. He wrote a letter to Fritz Bauer, Attorney General in Frankfurt. Bauer was tracking down Nazi war criminals as well and wanted Eichmann in front of a German court. But the newly founded German intelligence agency was pretty much run by former Nazis back then, so they did everything to keep Bauer from finding there former comrades. Knowing that his own colleagues would warn Eichmann, if he pursued him himself, Bauer turned to the Mossad and gave them the information from the man who's daughter dated Eichmanns son.

Such a missed opportunity! That would have made for an excellent scene with Jack McBrayer playing Fritz Bauer. Can you picture it? He is in an office and gets a telegram and reads it, and says, “Oh shit! I think we found Eichmann!” Then he picks up the phone, but turns to the doorway behind him and his colleagues are there staring at him. One of them was laughing making a Hitler salute, but when they see Bauer looking at them they stop acting like Nazis. One of them even puts his hand over his lip to hide his Hitler mustache. Then Bauer says, “No. I can’t trust these guys.” So cut to a scene where he’s meeting with the Mossad and handing them papers, saying, “This is where Eichmann is. He’s in Argentina.” And Anthony Hale says, “Hell Yeah.” And we get to see Buster Bluth and Kenneth the page in the same scene together. :’( It’s beautiful, man. Beautiful. The real history that wasn’t told with the history that never was.

@tinamisuu_2390
@tinamisuu_2390 5 жыл бұрын
@@sjgrnberg I think it this time period it mattered, because at that time Germany had a conservative government, many Nazis were still held in high positions, being gay was forbidden and persecuted and also he was Jewish as well, survived the holocaust in exile and came back to help make Germany a better place and bring some of the highest Nazis to justice. At that time period not many people were really interested in that and he had a very hard time. Nevertheless he helped catch eichmann and also initiated the Frankfurt Auschwitz trials. So in that context his sexual orientation, his religion and his political believes are important and make what he achieved even greater because he had to struggle so much to achieve that and had so much opposition. He really is someone that shouldn't be forgotten.

My great grandfather was one of those men who tracked down the nazis running the holocaust camps. He was supposed to be on the first fleet on D-Day, but they found out he was from germany and spoke german (duh) and had him interview holocaust survivors to find the bastards who did thos to his own people.

Copio y pego: El gorilismo trasciende fronteras en la internet... Amigo, aprendé historia; después del golpe del 55 la que manda es la iglesia católica y todos los ultra recontra hiper fachos como tus abuelos. To non Spanish speaking people who might care (fucking no-one) this guy doesn't know shit. There was a mock governement run by the catholic church and the fascist military, they violently removed Peron in '55

@@Eleiris still, the fact that you said "fascist" suggests that said government is also friendly/not hostile to Nazis. Especially since you said Person was deposed in 1955. Nazis running away from Germany would have entered the country since immediately after Germany's surrender in 1945.

Yes Peron was a fascist and like the nazis. But peron was far from gone when they did this against Eichman. As an argie, I think we literally dont give any fuck about the whole nazi issue (after peron of course), is clearly not because of racism, because at the same time we have one of the largest jews communities in the world. In this particular case, the Mossad never speak with argentinian authorities (we werent searching nothing thou) and thats it, they decided to act alone and thats why they bothered with that operation so secretively. It makes sense, under Israel point of view, you cant just communicate something that important to someone you dont know their intentions and you are not allies, the same way, theyll never let germany hang him.

@@Eleiris Como les lavan la cabeza a los peronistas. No saben ni que es ideologicamente Peron y defienden cosas que lo contradicen a su "lider". Desde el vamos, le dicen fachos a otros, siendo el peronismo una variante del fascismo.
