Jun, my grandmother lost a finger, a college classmate lost a foot, and a kid I briefly cared for lost a toe to riding lawnmowers. FEAR IS ABSOLUTELY THE CORRECT RESPONSE TO THOSE THINGS.
@ShadowSkyX18 күн бұрын
We had a wood working class in middle school, specifically in 6th grade and I remember thinking, 'I'm too young to be messing with this stuff. I feel like we're too young for this. Hell I feel _too_ short to be using any of this at all.' I was 12 (I have a late birthday so I started school a year later than most kids) and the shortest in my class. I was still under 5 foot and the tables sat up tall. There was only one or two adjustable tables if I remember correctly, but the teacher was nice and helpful, teaching us how to use them and reiterated the importance of the safety glasses we had to wear. I don't remember his name at all but as far as I know no one got hurt in the class I had. Maybe a splinter but it's to be expected when working with wood. I was very aware of how easily I could lose a finger, just looking at the machine was enough to get the point not to mess with it or get too close like an idiot. My dad had similar enough tools (most were the handhel/manual variety at the time) in the garage growing up so i had some familarity. But it was pretty bare bones because that was dad's stuff and it was understood we don't mess with it (because its obviously dangerous and we're kids). But my brother was in boy scouts long enough to where they had to make a little wooden race car and race it, and I remember hearing them build it. It came out super cool, they painted it and it even had functioning wheels.

@@ShadowSkyX It's pretty simple; stuff happens. Just try to do the best you can with what you have. And general rule of thumb is, if it can cut wood, it can cut your hand off. No amount of safety mechanisms can make up for sheer stupidity.

@loui106419 күн бұрын
Yes, indeed, you can treat the tanuki. But as akiyamada said, you have to be sure that only the tanuki will eat the food. I once tried to treat a fox but had to give up because the treatment was reserved for animals over a certain weight and it was dangerous for the cats living nearby, as they weighed less than the foxes. So it's possible, but it can be very complicated if there are a lot of cats around...

My Grandfather was paid in black walnut timber during the depression when he helped clear a road by the house. He had extensive wood working tools in the basement and he made 7 king sized 4 poster beds, multiple dressers, at least 20 rocking chairs and paneled most of the downstairs of their home in 1/3”panels. A great majority of it is still in the family. He must have gotten a lot of trees although those were potentially old growth Michigan trees so they could have just been huge.

12:12 That looks like a kingfisher! They're beautiful birds that hunt for fish by observing the water from a high vantage point before diving into it for their prey. Fun fact, Japanese bullet trains used to make a very loud boom after they traveled through tunnels. Thankfully, one of the engineers was also an avid bird-watcher and was inspired by the kingfisher's beak among other birds (owl, penguin, etc), which created fewer pressure waves at the nose of the bullet train!

I have a few members in my family who travel a lot, and one tip i got, if you are abroad and have limited luggage spaceon a flight - put your used cloths and such in a packet and send it home per mail and fit the new bought stuff, good and souvenirs in your travel bags - since it is just your "used" clothing in the mail, no custom fee's there and for your luggage - as long as it is not too obvious ... it should be able to get through if you not overdoing it .... (at least for my region - EU, but may be worth to check your local customs).

Just a concerned biologist that wishes your grandpa gets to watch hummingbirds for many years to come!!!

Hobbyist woodworker here in Michigan! :D If you want better hand tools, the place to go would be Rockler, which is a woodworker store. Home Depot and Lowes, I feel, are more geared for the "DIY" and contractor, so they won't have a huge selection of a particular hand tool (such as a nice pair of hand chisels specifically for woodworking). Though I shop at those stores all the time (as they "steal" money from my wallet), I think Rockler would be the place to go to get woodworking stuff. "Two Cherries" are one of my favorite chisel brands, and are made in Germany!
