7:20 So an En/chond/oma is an internal benign cartilage tumor of bones. But, in the case of your question about tumors in the bone, yes, you can get tumors and cancers in the bone. You can get them in any part of the body. I would imagine that in your case that cartilage inside of your bone is growing and expanding. It’s benign so I wouldn’t expect it to expand out and past your bone. But it’s like your body is spamming “copy and paste” and so the calcium bone matrix is making room for it. This can be very painful and can lower your quality of life with limited mobility without plain. Glad you got it checked out and are getting it removed! 😊
@Kater92774 ай бұрын
Med student here: bones are actually only hard on the outside. The inside is filled with marrow (and some fibrous stuctures to contain the bone marrow). Bones react to the environment just like the rest of your body. Say you work a lot with you hands - you will develop callouses. The same way your bones react to pressure or lack thereof. If there is something growing in the inside of the bone like an enchondroma then it puts pressure so the bone responds by increasing bone marrow space and growing outward (ie gettin' thicc). Obviously there is a limit to how much the bone can change. which is why you will never end up with a toe the size of your leg. The reverse can happen if you don't put pressure on bones. They will get brittle and are more likely to break. That's why it is important to be active and put some pressure on your skeleton - especially as women we are more likely to suffer from osteoporosis later in life because we didn't build up enough bone toughness in younger years.

$48 in total to fully diagnose a bone tumor. Here in the U.S. I ended up putting on an improperly sanitized paintball mask which gave me a fungal infection around my eyes. I've had four dermatologist visits in total now. Each visit consisted of me sitting in a waiting room for over 20 minutes, getting sent into a room where I'd sit waiting for another 10 minutes, and finally getting to see a doctor for less than 5 minutes that would effectively tell me "okay, I think this cream might work, here's a prescription, come back in a month." Yeah, I ended up spending $1,000 in total for what amounted to 20 minutes with an actual doctor and the only cream that worked was the one I was prescribed on the first visit.... Thankfully either via my body's immune system, the steroid cream, or a combination of both the fungus seems to be pretty much gone now so on the last visit I was just like "How about I contact you if it actually gets worse."

@themelancholyofdude9594 ай бұрын
@@theanita1 It was definitely a resistant strain. Still $1,000 is way to much money for the level of treatment I got. Cool painting trick for next time! Once you put the tape down, paint over it with the color underneath (in this case white) and then paint over it with the wall color, this prevents the wall color from seeping under the tape and gives you a really crisp line.

I had a similar thought. While the over-all design is gorgeous and brilliantly set off against the dark wall, the desk length is a bit out of balance for the space and the corner is dangerous. People tend to get out of bed in the dark and their awareness isn't accurate when half asleep. That could impale a temple or take out an eye. I imagine Japan also has stick-on cord covers which could hide the electricals on the top shelf. Something in the same tone (or you could paint the cord with a craft paint to match the shelving and hide that wonderfully. As long as it blends in, the eye won't fixate on it. I did something similar with a black chord on a white microwave oven in a white kitchen. Poof! Disappears like magic.

As an American, it is crazy to me she was able to get an xray and MRI to diagnose a tumor all in the same day. In the US, you'd need to go to a general practitioner, who would likely recommend some form of pain management for a certain length of time before even wanting to do an xray. Then to get an MRI referral you'd probably need a referral from the GP to a specialist, maybe a podiatrist, which could take anywhere from one-two months to get an appointment. They would do another xray and identify the issue and determine the need for an MRI. And then the MRI appointment could be another month of waiting, and then another few weeks for the MRI results to go back to the dr and make another appointment. And then treatment, if it's surgery or whatnot, could be ANOTHER few months. Overall it'd probably take a whole year to get properly diagnosed and BEGIN treatment. Imagine how much damage could have been done in that time if the tumor was cancerous. And she knocked out the diagnosis in three hours. It's the difference between a life saved and a life lost in a lot of situations. Just wild.

Not too dissimilar to the UK but with the exception of the massive medical bill. I saw my long-term pain management consultant in January 2022, he referred me to the sleep clinic (already diagnosed previously with delayed sleep disorder and wanted next step to be prescribed melatonin which in the UK can ONLY be prescribed by neuropsychiatric consultants!) took 18 mths till I was first seen in the clinic for a 2 week actiwatch review of my sleep and then another 6 months before seeing the consultant and getting a 3 months trial of melatonin, have less than 20 days supply left and don't have an appointment to review yet 😢. Same first consultant referred me for "full body physio" as I have hyper mobile elhers danlos, first appointment was beginning of August 2024 so 31 months wait because I'm not a priority cuz it's chronic not acute 😡 Our wait lists post the "panni" are ridiculous because everything got put on hold for so long rather than having relevant precautions that could help long term for other issues too like installing proper air filtration etc. what is worse is things that are terminal or life threatening are supposed to have "quick" turnaround times like max 12 weeks but currently are 12months +!

Pro tip another youtuber taught me; when you are painting a sharply contrasting colour on a wall (Like black meeting the white at the ceiling) after you have taped it; start by painting the same colour as the one you want to protect right along the tape, THEN go in with the colour you want ontop of that and go ham. Its a bit of a pain to do another step after all that taping, but it seals down the edge of the tape and gives you a perfect line every single time. Worth it in the end!!!

to answer your question about your bones - yes, they are hard, but your cells are alive (trapped in tiny little holes) inside the bone, which is how they can rebuild your bone when you break it, or overproduce tissue and give you a tumor. you can imagine your situation like slowly putting a wedge into a big log. the wood is hard, but when you put internal pressure on the material, it starts to bow out and the wood around the wedge bends or appears to swell up. you could also think of it like a knot in wood - when you cut a piece of wood along the grain, you can see all the nice straight lines from the rings of the tree, but you would see those lines in the grain curve around the big lump of the knot. human bone does actually look a bit like the rings of a tree under a microscope, because our bodies build it up in layers until our bone cells get trapped between the layers and don't have room to make any more!

Lab professional here! Adult bones have yellow marrow in them. The inside is actually known as 'spongy bone' Bones are extremely hard, but the insides are relatively soft. Bones can also bruise and scar. Bone hematomas(fancy word for bruise) will turn to fibrous tissue and then eventually harden to bone as a form of repair. This can be caused by damage or by health issues like cellular damage (no cancerous abnormal growth included) it can also be caused by internal cellular stuff. Bones are really cool. They are where your blood comes from too!!
@lolnamelollastname97884 ай бұрын
😮😮 I had no idea bones *could* even bruise!
@xXfireflyyXx4 ай бұрын
@lolnamelollastname9788 once you understand that bone is the body's "factory" for making red blood cells and you understand that means they are super rich in blood vessels it starts to make sense as to why and how they can bruise. While the outside of bone is an extremely hard and dense connective tissue, the inside is pretty soft. ( picture boiling animal bones, a lot of people love eating the marrow of bones) if you damage a bone by hitting it hard enough you could easily rupture the loads of blood vessels coming in and out of your bones. Which would result in bruising on the soft tissue of the bone. When a bone fractures you can also get a clot (also known as hematoma here) that plugs the hole. This is where the bone will turn the bruise into fiber and then back to bone again. I could go on for hours but I won't haha 😅

College student in nursing with microbiology and some anatomy background: Bones are not fully solid through and through. The marrow is pretty soft while the outer casing is hard. Tumors can appear is basically any cell that divides and grows, and because bone marrow is where the blood cells are produced (red blood cells, white blood cells, platelets), it’s very possible that tumors can grow within a bone.

Tip! If you want to make sure no paint gets under the tape, paint a line of the base colour (white on white) over the tape first. Then when you peel it you'll get super crisp lines.

I had a bone tumor in a pinky when I was 16-17. They only discovered it because it had weakened my bone and i broke my finger. I was put under when they originally fixed it, since they used a piece of bone they shaved off my pelvis. I had to get a second surgery because the muscles and ligament glued themselves to the new bone formation, but otherwise, recovery is pretty straight forward. Just make sure to follow whatever medication / training regimen they put you on, and you'll be back on your feet (bad pun intended) in no time, with a neat scar to show and a cool story to tell 😊

"Fun" fact regarding Phillips screws: Make sure you have the right screwdriver! Not only will most screws strip if you use the wrong size screwdriver (because they are cheap. Check that the screwdriver doesn't wiggle in the screw without moving it.) but Japan is uniquely screwed (get it?) because they have a very similar looking screw called JIS (Japanese Industrial Standard) and using a Phillips screwdriver in a JIS screw, or vice versa, will strip it very quick. JIS screws have no rounded sides, instead having a circular cutout in the middle. Make sure you are using the right screwdriver!

@@tangocat4370Apagard Premio is what Rachel is holding. They sell several different kinds of Apagard on Amazon but Premio and Royal are what I've seen recommended the most.
@catonakeyboard4 ай бұрын
@@tangocat4370 It looks like Rachel is holding Apagard Premio. That's the kind I started with. It only took about a month of Premio before I was able to get rid of Sensodyne and eat ice cream again. I've also used Royal, which I believe is the strongest version of Apagard. I think it has around twice the nanohydroxyapatite as Premio (the stuff that literally rebuilds your teeth). I genuinely notice a difference between Royal vs. Premio. Royal makes my teeth so clean, if I rub my finger on them, they literally squeak. Plus, they got whiter over the course of about a year. The only problem is that Royal is VERY expensive. But if you want / need maximum strength, it might be worth it. My advice is to start with Premio and see how that works for you. I think it has the best balance between cost and quality. If you love Premio and can afford it / want something stronger, then maybe consider trying Royal. I think both are spectacular. Royal cleans better, but Premio is the better money value, and I think it tastes better, too. Either one will work, and every type of Apagard is cheaper than paying dental bills lol.

Rachel used some Makita power tools, which isn't surprising because it's a Japanese company. So power tools shouldn't be hard to get and Makita is usually considered a good brand for power tools (yes they aren't cheap but they are a decent quality). And I'm assuming they're going to get stuff they can't get in Japan in the US over stuff that'd just be more expensive. Since they can only take a limited amount of things (and size) with them.

For a best guess from someone not in medicine, while bones are hard, they are sorta hollow with soft material inside (bone marrow), so a tumor inside of it could crack and expand it especially if the bone might have any sorta calcium deficiencies (sorta like ice inside of a crack) and then the bone re-heals itself it basically thickens.

Precisely. I think that to even mention it at the beginning of this vlog is irresponsible. Either do a vlog about cats and your personal Japanese/American relationship which is interesting or speak about more controversial subjects but don’t open a can of worms by making the statement about a White House invite and your declining to attend without some explanation is irresponsible. We are given to believe that it is about money and then you say you are going on a vacation instead? I think we are owed a more detailed accounting of the facts.

@@Americathebeautiful49 They literally said it was because they didn't want to sit through all the formal events, which is a perfectly acceptable (and relatable) reason. You don't have to make it into a conspiracy theory about them hating the government, they didn't want to spend money on something they knew they weren't going to enjoy, so they're spending money on something they DO know they're going to enjoy- spending time with family. Maybe you'll think me strange for replying after two months, but considering the severity of the insinuations you're making, I don't think time can really be considered an excuse to let this go without comment.

So I've found that if you use a tape knife (12" blade) as an edger when painting walls, you don't have to spend a ton of time taping beforehand. Just use it like you would a ruler on paper when making straight lines, only it'll prevent paint from getting on the ceiling or moulding or light switch or whatever you're painting next to. Regarding bones: your bones are sctually constantly being renewed. There's cells that destroy bone and other cells that produce new bone for your whole life. So if there's something that causes an imbalance between destructiin and production it can lead to thickening/tumor. On the other end of that, if there's more destructiin than productiin, you get osteoporosis.
