Texas is no different. I had a guy stalking me three years ago - I didn’t even really know him. I meet him in brief passing. He started stalking me, broke into my home, moved right next door to me. I talked to the police on several occasions and filled police reports. Nothing they could do unless he hurt me or I caught him in the act of breaking into my home. I said no thank you - moved and deleted all online information of mine so that he could not find me. I’ve moved 4 times and across the country so he has no access to me. I’m always aware of my surroundings now. Need stricter stalking laws in this country!!!! I’m glad CC is ok.

4:00 as a woman who actually had a stalker in college this type of person is something they must take extremely seriously, especially with how divisive the rhetoric is around Caitlyn Clark. The man stalking me(he was actually my father’s age… well five years younger, but you know close and When I was in high school I would always comment that. I always felt like I was being watched, but it was never more then a feeling that happened more & more as I got older until I went away to college out of state. There was this adult man in every single one of my classes and the very first moment he introduced himself to me I can still vividly remember my reaction. It was like every single fiber in my being was screaming this is dangerous and he made my skin crawl… like it was like a physical reaction. He ended up with sitting behind me in every class and would “accidentally” caress my shoulders in class. Unfortunately, I learned it was very difficult to have anything be done with it and even worse because he was Native American at the time they told me that he could sue the school for discrimination and to actually get enough information for the legal system to consider it stocking it was very time intensive and hard. It was the first and only time my parents were actually OK with me basically flunking the first year because he was just always there and literally the only class I ended up being free of him. There was one I took for fun which was a pole dancing class for women more for the exercise portion than like you know the other side of it. Over that year it went from getting one or two messages online to hundreds of emails, he was literally there everywhere I went even crossing state lines (which actually is what got him in the end.) I literally had to document everything (ended up being about 7 separate of those 5 or 6 inch binders) from copies of emails and phones messages to pictures of “presents” which in the beginning was like flowers in like teddy bears to surveillance footage of him following me at various places …at the end it was dead flowers, headless beads , and even a dead animal and many pictures of my eyes gouged out. I was eventually able to get a lifetime restraining order which at the time when he was served this there were a bedroom in his apartment it became clear exactly how crazy he was, and how much he had built up in his head that we were in a legitimate relationship,. It ended up that he was stalking me from the time I was in eighth grade. When apparently he saw me when I was visiting my dad at his office and he was applying for a job he said that he knew I was meant to be his wife. What I’m trying to say is that yeah it’s not something to mess around with when someone has this type of delusion and it can go bad extremely fast. I would never wish the strain on anybody. That feeling of I know he would be sitting in the parking lot of my dorm when I went to sleep and he would be there when I woke up. It finally came to an end about 18 months after and ended up with him being sent away for 12 years which he ended up passing in a prison fight with his roommate. It’s weird how your mind works, but I felt relieved, and then I felt bad that I felt relieved that he was gone permanently. When he first went away for prison, it actually felt like a huge weight had been lifted from me, except when I found out that he was permanently gone… I actually didn’t realize exactly how much of that weight still was there. It actually took me years before I was really able to get a grasp on my mental trauma and realize that by still letting him have an effect on me I was letting him win and I would be damned if that happened anymore.

This is as unacceptable as it is terrifying for all involved. Rising young actress Rebecca Schaeffer was shot and killed by a male fan while answering her front door in July 1989. John Lennon had an obsessed fan who broke into his house and who eventually left without threat or harm, but Lennon was later assassinated on 8 December 1980 by a fan who wanted attention. These incidents have to be taken VERY seriously, and people who want to act out on their obsessions need to be locked up to protect the public.

@@v2807 What was also a surprise, and it speaks to the person's deluded frame of mind, is that the IMPD (Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department) spoke to this guy the day before he was arrested. They surprised him at his hotel room, told him they knew what he was doing and that it was illegal, and he needed to stop. The guy reportedly said; _"It was just a fantasy, it wasn't serious. That he was just having fun"_ or words to that effect. Then he continued with his harassment. Before social media explosion, people had real lives, and their worlds didn't revolve around sports and sports commentary. Also, before hyper media exposure to doom and gloom world scenarios, people found some level of satisfaction contributing to the local economy and production. Depression is the main outcome of hyper media. Many people find different delusional fantasy escapes from this dystopian reality foisted upon them all the time. For some, it leads to gambling addictions (especially fantasy leagues), porn addictions or gaming addictions. For some idol worship goes awry. I don't think we can ever eliminate mental illness. But we are sort of like LA before the fires. All it takes is the right conditions to get out of control.

I hope famous folks like you have people that don't just monitor your social media, but filter it before you look at it. Just have your security record it, report it to the authorities when appropriate, and then delete it before you see it. I don't see any good purpose to have you read any of the crap that might come your way. All it does is make you nervous. Good security people will surround you like a cocoon.

Sadly, there’s these people around. It’s not WNBA related, but Hailie Deegan from NASCAR(20 at the time) had to miss a truck race because of death threats. The FBI and local law enforcement were involved. Don’t know if they ever caught the guy, but she was under a special security detail until a resolution was achieved.

W the growth of the W, I think the league should offer security for any player who asks for it. CC prob has the heaviest & still had this happen. So glad the guy posted online so much so they could get him before he was physically in proximity to her. 😬

It’s not uncommon. Celebrities get stalked all the time. Lucky CC has a security team. Unfortunately…the laws actually do nothing protect people from stalkers. 😢

Having a stalker is so scary. When i was in my 20s i had a mental patient stalk me at the hospital I worked at. I Don't know.how he got.my.home.number. i dont how he got.my address but he would call me and drive by home. It was so scary but it finally stopped when he o'd and passed away.

When that man got in the face of Chennedy Carter outside out the hotel that should have been a sign when entering a new era in womens basketball where their security is should be a top priority like never before.

Good thoughts. It used to be chicks following bands and male athletes. Now as women get more into those spaces we get male nut jobs. I don't know of male groupies. Maybe they are there but I'm showing my age. Security is the only answer unfortunately. The leagues need to step up as you stated. Just sucks.

CC is the GOAT-there’s no doubt about that, and I’m a huge fan. But let’s be honest: other WNBA athletes have dealt with hate messages and stalkers before, yet those situations didn’t receive nearly the same level of attention. Now that it’s happening to CC, it’s suddenly breaking news and people are screaming for more security and saying "something needs to change". Don’t get me wrong-it’s a serious issue and deserves to be addressed-but we need to be consistent in how we respond to these incidents. It’s frustrating to see others overlooked simply because they’re not as popular. Moments like this make it easier to understand why she faces so much hate on the court and during games.

I’ve been saying for months that when it truly gets dangerous for CC it will be because of those who think they’re her “fans”. Let’s see this conversation stay focused and critical of the actual problem: gross men and sycophants who use CC as their lens to project their misogyny, racism and homophobia. Y’all are the problem, not the W at large. Deal with it before she actually gets hurt by one of you.

Part of the problem is that our legal system lags significantly behind the times. While legislators can collect big paychecks, they can't craft legislation that would allow for more efficient monitoring and prosecution of internet-based crime. In some states, cops struggle to arrest people for cyber-stalking and cyber-bullying because there isn't a law that comprehensively covers these activities. That is before we get to the exploitation of children and vulnerable people on the internet, which is very poorly tackled. Frankly, a lot of smaller police departments just lack the resources or time to train their officers too. I've argued for a long time that the US needs to centralize LE a lot more, putting it at least at the county, if not the state level. This creates more consistency, easier sharing of information and more personnel/resources for training and specialization. Centralization is critical for combating cyber crime, as otherwise it's too easy for cyber criminals to simply escape detection and capture in smaller areas unless a big federal agency gets involved.

She has had stalkers before, but doesn't advertise it like others do to avoid giving them attention. I'm concerned that her haters could resort to violence too, reading many of the social media comments. Instead of toning down the anti CC rhetoric, we have people like Jemele Hill making light of it and race baiting, this needs to stop immediately.

Y’all are trying way too hard to ignore the fact that this was a CC FAN who was arrested. He was not a Clark hater. He was and is a FAN of Clark. Stop twisting it, you’re helping put CC in danger when you try to warp it like that.

Candice Owens had the same problem recently. It's not just celebrity that causes this, it's more truthful to say, attractive celebrities get this negative aspect. Even movies have been made about this, THE BODY GUARD comes to mind. Wish Catlin the best❤🙏✌️

Rachael I imagine this happens a lot to women in the social spotlight. There’s a mental health problem in this country, it has been made obvious imo. Idk what measures players take to protect themselves, it is something added to the headache of celebrity status. Ugh it has to be frustrating and scary. You give, gave, good advice…stop giving out too much information.
