One of the reasons I might think of showing these videos to some of my students (if that's ok?) is that you look far happier with your playing as time goes by - from a bit of a low in June of the 1st year to a stage where you're getting a real kick out of playing. It takes time.

What an amazing journey you've been on. For 22 years, you never knew that there was a deeply talented guitarist within you. And only two years later, you've even tamed the "hidden pinky" that a lot of new players suffer from. I'm no expert myself, but I easily recognize talent and dedication when it truly shows like this. And with that, you've earned a sub.

My son is a symphonic percussionist and he hadn't done anything much with his music since his first two years in college because there isn't much call for that skill outside of a school setting. He started playing bass guitar a couple of months ago at age 25, so he had something more likely to lead to playing publicly again, and I was amazed at all the naysayers who were saying he was too old to start playing bass. I don't know where people formulate that idea. So, thank you for showing people with those ideas how wrong they are. 💜
@High_Monk7 жыл бұрын
La La There's this channel called acousticlife or something like that. That guy has some video tutorials on his website where people can comment using their facebook I believe. There are 70+ year old people there who didn't start too long before they posted those comments. When I saw them I felt like an idiot for thinking I was too old to start at 28. Playing guitar only requires passion and dedication and that's something one can have at any age. I'm going to get my first guitar very soon and I'll play guitar till the day I die.
@lala-everyonescrazyaunt7 жыл бұрын
Good for you! I was a bit shocked at people's feelings on the subject because I have just started playing guitar again after a 25 year motherhood hiatus and everyone has been very supportive, in fact that is what inspired my son to choose a different instrument to continue on with. I have been trying to inspire readers of my book blog to either pick up an old instrument, or start a new one, that is why I am so happy I found Rachel's channel. I am going to share it with them. Hopefully some of them will be inspired. Don't be afraid to pick up a cheaper guitar to get one sooner and start playing. I just bought a low end guitar to keep next to the computer and it actually plays better than one of my two more expensive guitars.
@High_Monk7 жыл бұрын
La La I actually had an acoustic guitar a few years ago, but it got stolen and many other things happened after that made me wanna just give up. I know the guitar basics and for a new start I plan to buy an Epiphone Les Paul Special II since it's really affordable and when I'll be "worthy" I'll get a high end one. I just need to get rid of this annoying nerve that numbs my arm and I'll be good to go. Good luck to you and your son and may you entice many ears with your music!
@RachelfGuitar7 жыл бұрын
Hey La La, I know what you mean, it's pretty crazy how some people will tell others it's too late to start learning something! I'm glad to hear that my videos might be helping prove the naysayers wrong! Best of luck to you and your son with your musical pursuits and thank you! :)

@jamiemacmillan40567 жыл бұрын
Only thing I'm going to say as watch your timing with the lead stuff, especially when you're harmonizing different parts. If it's something you struggle with just make sure your speed's built up very gradually because you'll naturally play it cleaner if you go from taking it slow and take the tempo up a few bpm each run through, this really helped me with the atonal section of the solo in Dream Theater's Caught in a Web. Also maybe look at scales so you can improvise more freely.
@seansickles16686 жыл бұрын
This is like my motivation! Love these videos... AMAZING progress!! I'm two months in and progressing quickly, but I get sidetracked by the immense depth in the instrument. Way to stick to one genre/goal and keep plugging away... CAN'T Wait to see you play live one day!!!
@alfredfarber33856 жыл бұрын
I really enjoyed this Rachelf, along with your first year video. I watched you gradually get alternate picking and the beginnings of vibrato. Around 10 or 11 months, you smiled for the first time and seemed to be more confident as a guitarist and person. You began looking away from the guitar more often as you played. You started to look like you were enjoying yourself while playing. You screeched out a pinched harmonic or two. As someone else commented, your 'guitar face' eventually came along. Those who don't play may not realize that it signifies playing intuitively and feeling the music as opposed to being locked visually and in your mind to what your fingers are doing. No matter how long we play, we all know that we have a long way to go. B.B. King once said that he still had much to learn, and that was after he had been playing professionally for more than 50 years. But, in 2 years of focused practice, you have laid a great foundation for becoming an excellent musician. I've been at it for 50 years, and you inspire me.

I'm not making quite as fast progress as you did but I'm getting there and really enjoying myself doing it. Age should be no barrier to taking up something new, although I now find myself regretting I didn't get off my arse and learn to play 40 years ago. Just think how much fun I've missed. Oh, the sweet difference between knowing how to play songs and actually knowing how to play a guitar.

It's good to see that there are not negative comments like i saw in the 1st year progress video. Great job you improved a lot, keep the hard work. Congratulation.

Amazing! This inspires me so much. I'm learning to play bass guitar and I have difficulty with it, but seeing your progress let's me believe that I can do better.

Ji Ji what do you mean by that
@jiji90076 жыл бұрын
One unshreddy Boi when someone says “username checks out” they mean that your username relates to what you commented or posted about. In this case, your username “one unshreddy boi” relates to your comment about her not playing djent, and instead shredding.

Well, your progress is amazing, and of course the most important thing is your smile! I just suggest you to keep learning the bass as well, as playing more instruments gives you more musical insights. Good luck!

This was fun to watch, nice diversity in music and just seeing the joy of making music in your face. I especially like the progression of your bends, at first they were just mechanical and now there is a lot more soul in them. Well done and keep rocking.
