Back when I was 15 or 16 (around the late 2000’s) I remember one night I was sitting in a local coffee shop waiting for a friend to get off from work when two older ladies came through the door. They must have been in their 60’s or 70’s but they were dressed head to toe in British 1910’s fashion. My jaw hit the floor as they both strode so casually and confidently in what I thought was the most stylish outfits I had ever seen. It was as though they had just popped out of Mary Poppins with the boots, the coats, the button down vests, everything. I still think of those two ladies to this day as the prettiest women I have ever seen in my life and I wish that when I am old I can wear my choice fashion just as beautifully and confidently as they did. No matter what you’re wearing or decade it’s from, so long as you feel good in it you’re beautiful!

1:32 "I'm just, I don't really have a style." I've found the more I try to replicate a specific aesthetic the less I enjoy what I wear. The more I dress in what I like, the more my actual look emerges. Your style exists. Just because someone else hasn't slapped a label on it is irrelevant. You do you.

TLDR: I agree! Oh my god I was literally getting dressed ten minutes ago and I would put something on and I’d be like “I like it… but it’s not cottegecore” and I’d take it off. It took me 1 hour of getting dressed to realize a. I just don’t have that kind of wardrobe yet and b. Labeling my wardrobe as a certain aesthetic REALLY limits myself as opposed to simply saying “I just really like this sweater and those pants :)”. It’s great to look at these aesthetics AT FIRST when first redesigning your style but you need to get to a point where you now know what you like and just start wearing chorus’s without strict labels. Like Rachel started out with straight up vintage but as she got older and experimented more with clothes, she is just wearing what she likes which happens to take inspo from vintage styles (trousers, long a-line skirts, puff sleeve tops, etc.). Rachel Maksy is my #1 style icon but I am now sprinkling in little aspects of me into my wardrobe mainly with color like wearing multi color sweaters or very bright colored dresses. Sorry this is long I just have a lot to say :)

I was at a grocery store in full lacy Edwardian attire (hat included) and this little girl behind me said, "Mom, why is that girl so pretty?" and I turned around and said hello. We talked, introduced ourselves, and even saw each other later in the store. She said "hi Sarah!" and I said "Hi, B!" (not saying her first name just in case. You never know). It was the cutest thing ever 😍

I've had similar things happen to me when I wear my historically inspired clothing and hat, or when I decorate my hair with ribbons, braids, dreads and beads. There has been the odd weird look, but the vast, vast majority (at least 90%) of reactions have all been smiles and compliments! Dressing the way I love honestly gives me the kind of confidence almost nothing else does. It's bringing my inner creativity to the outside, like its own type of art.

Being someone who also has a chronic illness, I'm in total agreement. I hope your good days happen in multiples, and your bad days come with your chosen pharmaceutical management so they pass quickly. That said, I too have been trying to cultivate YT creators that are just relaxing. No (overt) politics. No inter-channel drama. Things that aren't quite "just a vlog" but it's their channel focus AND sprinkled with what actually feels like a real day for them. I've got a couple of these that are just "there" and while I might be more than familiar with some of the things they're doing, I'm learning a bit AND laughing a little too. They don't say it's the best medicine for nothing.

Pretty great content, Rachel! The 1970’s outfit was pretty spot on. I had “granny boots” like those that I wore with fishnet tights, orange, faux suede hot pants, and a skinny tank top. Stylin! 🕺🏽💃🏼

All of these were so cute!!! The 10's made me happy because of your energy! The 20's were cute because you picked the part of it you loved. There's more to the 20's than flapper dresses. The 30's had that sweet moment that an older man said you remind him of an even older man! The 40's was so sweet and so cute!!! The 50's was great to hear how your tastes started and change. The 60's was such an adorable look! When you put your hair up in a pony tail I was like oh yes! (Kinda thought you were going to try out your Austin Powers glasses with it! ) And the 70's was just so you. When I saw it I was surprised you wanted to make something else because that jumpsuit was too cute! Thank you for this super fun video!!!

😆 Does it feel really weird to see people trying to copy all the styles that were everyday wear for you at the time...? Some of them like the 1960s even seem to come round repeatedly as actual recycled fashion trends... Anybody who hung onto their bellbottoms (AND could somehow still fit them) could've gotten at least a couple of fashion cycles' worth of reuse out of them by now, I'm certain!
@maryames164
@maryames164 2 жыл бұрын
@@anna_in_aotearoa3166 No not weird at all.Back then I wore mostly what I found comfortable. I made my own bell bottoms out of jeans. But I would not call me a fashion plate.I love what Rachel does and feel that all young people need to learn to sew cause it is an important way to recycle!

As a concept they definitely have a lot of WTF vibe for me too 😂 But the thing is, the clothes of the era were built to hang over that shape! So I guess it's just the usual case of vintage under-structure helping make a vintage outfit look much more genuine...?

When I used to be more part of my local fashion community as a jewelry designer the very first runway I did, and some thing I really wanted to try doing more seriously, is called post apocalyptic through the decades. Because my jewelry has a lot of steampunk vibes, the idea was what if we hit the end of the world in each of these fashion time periods, what might the post apocalyptic styles look like as we tried to reclaim our society in that decade. It wasn’t perfect, but I had a lot of fun trying.

your hair is actually just the right length for a lot of 20s hair (psyche bun, faux bobs, swirl updo, mary pickford half up, headphone buns, figure-eigth braided bun, low updo) it actually gets a bit more finecky by the mid 30s, long haired updos are a thing in the 30s (mainly worn at the nape of the neck in the early 30s, around a, sometimes faux, crown braid in the middle and upsweapt and highly technical by the end of the decade) that blouse is adorabe! GG

The dark hair is growing on me, at first I thought "ok, she looks good, and I'm not the one who has like it, if Rachel likes it, all is good", now I'm like "she looks really gorgeous with dark hair, how can she do it?
