I'm sharing about my closet cleansing journey NOT to project my decisions on to anyone else, but just to share my personal journey. 🙏 Although I still get caught up in consumption, I'm trying to find more joy in what I contribute/create vs what I consume. I started viewing things in my home as unnecessary if they weren't being used and loved in everyday life. I started in my closet first, and I do feel so much "lighter" and free. I will be cleansing different spaces over the next few weeks. I love a good cleansing.. It's healing for me. I like Poshmark for selling certain pieces. The downside is that they take 20%, but the upside is that you really don't need a "following" to post. All posts can be seen in the search engine when people are looking for certain brands or items. It's nice to earn a little $$ back from what I spent when I shopped more. I usually invest that money so it can accrue interest, and I feel less guilty about how much I spent lol. I donate a lot of clothing pieces that I think might be most needed at a local woman's shelter (jackets, lightly used shirts, tanks, jeans and pants, blankets, lightly used kitchen items, unused makeup/hygiene items, lightly used toys and clothes for kids etc). I cleanse my closet and create different piles for donating vs selling. My niece also likes to search through my closet and sometimes steals things haha On many days, I'm chillin in leggings with my family and our animals. I'm thankful for all the experiences that led me to the person I am today. I'm trying to choose simple, stay present... Sending lots of love.

I tend to put my hangers backwards to the hook end is facing me. That way if that stays for a few months I know to get rid of. I then would put it in a bag in my car and if somehow remember a piece of clothing I want to wear I know to keep which is rare. Then I'll donate it or give to my family. When I shop for clothes I always think could this go with more than 2 items in my closet instead of just 1. I found this one shop with gorgeous clothes but they were pricey although I bought a few full price but most of them on sale (I only go for 40 or more % off) and they had a rack of "damaged" in which I have sewn. I love to shop at TJMaxx, Target, and thrift shops. My problem isn't just clothing though it's books. I have to cover my eyes walking by book stores haha. My town has a nice book store where I get hard copies $5 or less than $10! I love books and I listen to them on Overdrive which is free and connects to your library card. When you mentioned of you changing I think its inevitable. Life is full of growth and change. Be who you want to be and adapt to your own needs and wants and not other people. I have followed you for years and am still here. I just want to say you and your family have been in my thoughts and prayers as I lost my brother and remember the grief. Since then I ache for people who lose loved ones. Unfortunately my grandma just got diagnosed with bone cancer in her skull. I hate cancer. Love and prayers heading your way 🙏 ❤️

Rachel, I’ve been a silent viewer of your channel for just over a decade now. You are the only content creator from the time I found KZbin that I still watch. You’ve remained so humble, so reflective and so true to yourself that your content has always brought me peace and a feeling of completeness. I think the desire to pare down is quite a common experience in one’s 30s as we move away from the desperate acquisition of material things from our younger years in an attempt try to outwardly demonstrate our ‘identity’ to others, to realising what really matters is making good memories, being comfortable in our own skin and connecting with that from within. I messaged as I wanted you to know that you and your family are in my thoughts. Just know that you have much silent support out there. Sending you all peace, healing and love. 💗

Changing through the day to day and becoming your most authentic self is beautiful. You are changing and it is beautiful. So glad you are pursuing this way of life. I did it about 4 years ago and my hubby went along with it but it’s helped me focus on my watercolor painting and reading and meditating. The first overall house decluttering is tough but it’s easy after that. The most difficult thing is not buying more stuff. I declutter by zones. So each week I am in a different area. I just spend a few minutes going through everything and seeing what we don’t use. I became a minimalist because I am chronically ill with two rare genetic disorders. It has helped me feel that the house doesn’t own or overwhelm me. I can really rest when I need to.

I feel grateful for your sharing though, I know you have mixed emotions doing it, but I think it's good. I held back tears as I made meatloaf tonight for my family, watching and listening to you, feeling a little ridiculous for being down on myself that I felt frustrated that I never seem to feel caught up on my house. When your house is messy, it feels so lovely still, I should feel that way more about mine. Now I try to be as minimal as possible. I just did my spring closet cleanse yesterday and got rid of my last pair of high heels that I’ve held onto for maybe 7 years or so. We all grow and change. I find it interesting when people are surprised by people changing. It's the nature of life, to change and adapt to every season and experiences. Good or bad experiences are going to influence us and inact a change of perspective or behavior. I'm not who I was yesterday let alone days, months and especially years ago. You don't have to change but I'd be more curious if people don't a little.
