Racing a Jet with a 730 Horsepower Saleen S302 Mustang - Test Drive

The Shelby GT350 is absolutely amazing, but people including auto journalist forget, That recipe.. was created by Saleen long before Ford decided to get-it-together with the Mustang. Saleen's were always built for the track, not the dragstrip, and during the company's heyday, most people (states' side) didn't have a clue about real sports car track performance. As such only the well inclined understood just what Saleen's were, and just what the mustang was capable of re-worked by pro's. Saleen's were the first track performance Mustangs after the bygone era of the original 60's Shelby GT350's. Straigh off the showroom floor with real racing dna directly from their multiple endurance racing championships against the best in the industry. Saleen has been off the radar but its not a reflection of their products. Good to Saleen back in the public's eye.

If people only knew of Saleen's accomplishments with the humble mustang, Of all their back to back scca and fia Gt championships with the mustang. That Saleen mustangs ran in the 24 hr of lemans and fared quite well though one car dnf'd . Long before the 2013/4 Boss 302, its performance numbers were achieved by the 1998 saleen s351sr. crushing the likes of porsche ferrari corvette or its era. and all achieved with a neutralized solid rear axel. something the average joe claimed to be impossible. It took Ford the better part of 16 years to decide to tune the mustangs correctly. Thankfully they finally understand why. Ok, we'll see! I really like the Black Label lineup from Saleen and would choose that over Camaro ZL1-1LE or Hellcat any day. I haven't driven the Shelby yet so I can't compare at this point but look forward to that opportunity!

I have a normal 2006 saleen with no super charger and hit 160 with more room to go.. but my speedometer goes to 200, never made sense to me that they put that low of a speedometer for something like that lmao

The amazing thing about this car is that it was very manageable. If you floor it, things happen real fast but in traffic and around town it was just like driving a "normal" Mustang!

Nonsense, the new roush stage 3 put down better numbers than the gt350r on the skidpad. The magneride suspension cars will have comparable handling regardless of which flavor u prefer....

Had a 2008 Saleen S281 red flag edition...car #179. 465hp 425tq....back in 2008 with the base Mustang gt only being 300hp, the supercharger gave it a nice usuable amount of power, that was more than enough to upset 95% of the cars likely to pull up next to you at a light, even though it wasnt really built just for drag racing, but it was nice on a track and it was a fun car to drive. A legit low 12 sec car around 110-112mph back before all the new cars were capable of that like they are now. Car was black with red accents. Definitely enjoyed it while I had it

It's tough to choose which one I like better, the naturally aspirated V8 Shelby GT350R, or this Supercharged V8 Saleen S302 Black Label, they both sound amazingly identical, so it would likely come down to which ever one I could/would get the better deal on, you can't go wrong with either whip...
