Good video, thank you, i road course and it is 9$/gal of 100oct at the track, 7$/gal of 91oct. E85 is 2.50$/gal ... bought 15-5gal fuel containers at Costco (200$) and now i am good for two days at the track.

Can't wait to see the gains from E40 to C85. Bob mentioned diminishing returns around 40-50 percent ethanol and it will be interesting to see how that plays out on the dyno. Really good idea for a series. I will definitely stay tuned. Thanks guys

These findings are dead on with others, over the past years that E-85 has been available.

a lot of people on the forums didnt understand why i chose afd's flex fuel kit as opposed to an e85 tune. i explained the exact same thing you said, e85 tunes are based on whatever the tuner used, not what you get from your pump. so if one day you get 50% and the next day you get 60% but the tuner tuned on neither of the two, you're kinda SOL. youd have to flash your car back to pump 93 till you get the same or similar %age your tuner used. or youd have to measure every time, and make sure you run the same percentage every time lol. im definitely not doing that.
@TheGinger18 жыл бұрын
Surely if you're out of fuel pump on E40 then you're not going to be able to make much more power from E85 as you'll need to move a larger volume of fuel than E40. Any plans to make the appropriate mods to the fuel system to extract the full potential of the fuel?

I run a combo of E85 and LP gas in my !989 ford f 350 with a 460 ci stick trans. With some adv timing it runs great. Just having fun with it.

Where are you, the Midwest? Is it advertised as E-98? I'm consistently getting 75% ethanol from the "E-85" pumps at the Racetrac stations near I-75 from Ocala through Wesley Chapel, Florida

I run e85 in my 02 Gtp and I have never had a problem with it other than the availability on long road trips because I can't hook up a e85 flex monitor to the pcm. I did a tune, #60 injectors, and a walbro 255 and a smaller pulley. I picked up about 100 whp from this. $215 for the dhp tuner, $120 walbro 255 and $100 for the injectors used.

For older cars with port injection, simple upgrades like yours can have excellent power gains for little outlay and only the 15-20% hit on fuel economy. If you don't drive long distances much this isn't an issue. It's actually cheaper to fill my tank for E40 than full of just 91 octane. I do take a hit in economy though. Ecoboost engines have Octane Adjustment built-in the PCM controls, it if I run 91 on my E30 tune it cranks down the timing advance.

Pros and cons differ depending on location. Here in Indiana, most e85 tests around 90% cause we grow corn here, but in the winter months there is an amazing amount of moisture at the tailpipe. And o2 sensors love moisture, if I drive my e85 powered truck in the winter I will have to replace them at least once.
@TheMasnart8 жыл бұрын
Very good video. Very nice to see such a power increase from going from E10 to E40. Would have been cool to show the differences (If any) between your ethanol content sensor's estimation of the fuel, and a good ole Ethanol Tester like the one from Holley. Also, didnt hear you mention it in the video, but for the other readers out there, one of the main reasons it will pick up more power is the cooling effects of the ethanol fuel. And since this is a supercharged application, those engines love that.
@shannonsisk8 жыл бұрын
TheMasnart yes I was expecting them to mention a cooling effect as well. Maybe they could get into that more in the next video
@dj4monie7 жыл бұрын
The cooling effect is accounted for in SAE testing, look for the .pdf file online, it's good reading. E20 still out performs 100 octane oxygenated unleaded fuel...

Hello James here.Great info on this episode.So if you can answer this question and get back to me that would be great.Ok so What i got is a vw aircooled turbo draw thru motor.I want to be consistant on the tune so how and is it possible to hook up a flex fuel system on a draw thru carbureted e85 motor.The carb is the latest greatest holley e85 750 carb.my car is 100% plumbed from tank to motor with all the proper parts. I know you guys deals with the later cars but i heard you state that e85 wont be consistent so get a flex fuel conversion. LMK thanks

i always get confused when they say "my car is tuned on 24 degrees of timing." how do you get this? im just starting off but the cars i have tuned have timing advance set different relating to RPM and Airmass. how do they set it to one number??

should have tested e70.... that's what a lot of people end up getting or at least something close to that number e40 is pretty far off from e85.
@dj4monie7 жыл бұрын
Depends on the car. SAE's own testing found E20 was the best between least impact on fuel economy and most power. You still got 97% of the benefit of E85 at E20. That was a stock Ecotech GM 4 cylinder turbo engine, Buick Regal. My friend at CP/Carrillo has to run E20 on is '15 Z06 as he over drives the blower more and added a cam. He was running E30. If you have old port injected cars you can run higher concentrations of fuel. Neon SRT-4's pick up 30-35 hp EASY with full E85 which is easy you only need bigger injectors. Caliber SRT-4 350 hp which is 70 hp over stock on E85.

Yeah, E-40 was best in an old DOHC 4.6 Cobra and many GM engines. I haven't had personal experience with the direct injection (Long term, years of use)

5 years later, E-85 is consistently lower cost than even regular gas at pumps near me, and E-15 ("88 octane") is available and also cheaper. I'm consistently getting 75% ethanol at the Racetrac stations near I-75 from Ocala through Wesley Chapel, Florida. The E-85 stickers advertise "51-83% ethanol". In an ideal world, when one buys "E-85" fuel it would always be exactly 85% ethanol. Actually, in an ideal world, only organic E-100 would be available at all pumps, and engines would be manufactured and tuned accordingly. I'm an idealist, working for such a world. 🤣🙏🌈🌎

Yeah no suprise E54 gives you the same range as 93 and the benefits of ethanol..... E54 is technically better than E85 with a higher octane rating than 93..... Depending how they make it. They have E54 in Arizona l wonder what independent testing has found ??????

Ive tried e85 a couple times first time had a little less than a quarter regular 87 put 10 gallons of e85 ran it out didn't noticed much difference then i ran it to just about empty filled all the way with e85, then i actually felt a gain this is in a 2015 GMC Sierra with just the 4.3 v6 ecotec3. But i just went back to regular 87 e85 is about 35cents cheaper but i lose about 4 to 5 mpg also.
@dj4monie3 жыл бұрын
1) Your not tuned for it 2) E85 works much better with forced induction including nitrous oxide. So... Get one of those.
@EthanolFuelGuy2 жыл бұрын
Depends on whether you want to just go further on a tank of gas, or get better acceleration and/or torque, have a smoother, quieter, cleaner-running, longer-lasting engine, and go much longer between oil changes. Since you have a flex-fuel vehicle, the choice is yours. Choose once again. 🤣
