I never got super into racing games - I did love the old Road Rash on the ps1 - but when I did/do? The adrenaline is legit. Just going fast and rocking out to some EDM? It’s it’s own sensation. Also. Micro Machines are the tits.

I don’t drive irl but I agree with you here and I love these games too.

Yes, I agree wholeheartedly.

Cool video! Pretty sure the Colin McRae Rally demo got me into racing games too. Don't suppose you've ever tried out Wreckfest? It's a pretty interesting take on the genre; very heavy and drift-friendly car physics, a BeamNG.drive-like destruction model and a ruleset that's half way between demolition derby and rallycross. It even has a little bit of Gran Turismo tossed in with it's RPG-esque progression from a Sunday driver to a professional.

Never played Wreckfest but at the same time, I'm less enthusiastic about games that emphasise destruction. If it gets a Game Pass release or similar then maybe I might check it out though!

@@Bobthepetferret I hope it does! It's not too often I hear racing game takes like yours.

Enjoyed this, thanks. Interesting about your experience with Gran Turismo being only 1 and 5, since I always thought 3 and 4 were the high-points of the series undoubtedly. Your point about the tracks on GT being similar regardless of location is a little unfair, especially in the later games where tracks like Cote d'Azur and Eiger Nordwand are unmistakable. Rally was introduced by 3 as well, although the fidelity of it I can't comment on, since the last rally game I played was V-Rally 1 back in 1997. That said, I'm a rabid GT fanboy, a big part of it due to soundtrack as you mention. Did you ever play GT7, out of curiosity?

It's less a criticism of Gran Turismo but how I feel about circuit racing in general. There are exceptions, certainly, but I do feel a bit like you've seen one racing circuit you've seen pretty much all of them. Obviously, personal preference more than anything else. Not played GT7. Did consider it, but all the microtransaction talk put me off completely.
