Hey Ryan, thank you so much for posting this beautiful content and for sharing your adventures with the world. It’s a cold & rainy day in the Midwest so I’ve been binge-watching your GDMBR series and dreaming of the day when we can all “get back out there” with a little less fear and uncertainty. With everything that has been going on around us, living vicariously through you, John, and Mira is just the type of ‘escapism’ many of us welcome (and probably crave) right now. Your positive outlook is inspiring, and your grateful attitude reminds me to check my ego at the door and be thankful for everything I have. As with many of the trips you’ve shared, some of my favorite moments are the people you’ve met along the way… like Barbara Nye and John Keller from Lost Llama Ranch outside of Helena (from Episode 5). Seeing their gorgeous property and hearing their story puts a smile on my face and hope in my heart. “Four acres of love” isn’t just an abstract idea - it’s proof that there really ARE kind, generous people out there, and we usually don’t have to look far to find them. I’ve been on both the giving and receiving end of “trail magic” or “road magic,” and believe me, they are moments in my life I will never, ever forget. It’s been said that, to feel happiness in your own life, do something for someone else, however big or small. You rarely regret the experience of extending kindness to a stranger, but you almost always regret not taking the opportunity while you had the chance. 😊 Thank you for all that you do to bring joy to the world - keep up the great work, and be safe out there!

Mr. Duzer I just wanted to thank you for your channel on youtube. It is one of a few that gave me the inspiration to get off my sedentary overweight fanny and go out and buy a bike to ride. I spent about $250 on an old 21-speed hybrid bike that is in good repair. I just got back from my first 4 mile ride which is not impressive given your transcontinental riding experience but given my weight (much heavier than you) and lack of recent riding experience I think I did alright. My focus was on maintaining cadence, and proper gear shifting. Any beginner advice is welcome, but most of all just writing a thank you for the content you've already provided.
@bobbyv3844 жыл бұрын
I was overweight too when I started riding a little more seriously. Just be consistent with it. Don't over do it though or you'll get burned out. And I hate to say it but if you are overweight to a decent amount you'll need to either repair flats or change out tubes often. I became pretty good at it because of my weight. Bike riding is a great physical activity for the body, mind and soul. Good luck fella!
@Kandyman7364 жыл бұрын
@@bobbyv384 Yeah, I expect to have issues with the bike at my weight but I think it's worth it to keep active. I can't stand stationary gym cardio and I have a bad ankle that often makes long walks unenjoyable. Good job on the weightloss, that is my hope too. If I can get my weight down a bit I think my ankle will do better too.

Right on my man! You did more than alright! Thanks so much for sharing your story, I'm impressed, and inspired. I must say, not having to do chain maintenance on a tour like this is a pretty big plus. Chain care is something I'd feel obligated to perform at the end of each day's riding. But after a long day in the saddle, with camp to set up, food to prepare, and lakes to jump into :), it would be great to take chain care off the list. Plus, on a long, dusty day on the trail, mid-ride chain care isn't a bad idea either. So not having to do any of this would be pretty dang nice. And multiply that by 50 when it comes to inclement weather riding. Having a Gates belt that's impervious to rain, mud, gunk, debris, etc. is a big selling point when it comes to bike travel. Warming up to the idea... The rule of N+1 means there's always room for another bike!
