Fantastic footage mate and congratulations on your ride. But can we all appreciate how much of a leader Keegan Swenson is? He's also as strong as a bull. Absolute unit. It comes as no surprise he's able to win all these races.

Fantastic insight into the race - Both the terrain and race dynamics, especially with the wind and echelons / guttering that you don't see too often in gravel. Chapeau for going all in to stick with the lead group as long as possible!!! No point in saving anything at the Natty!

You are a beast dude!. I think you were too nice taking those pulls while others weren’t. I think you definitely had the legs to stay with the front group. As you mentioned, be more strategic with your pulls. Don’t spend your energy for others if they aren’t willing to reciprocate. I really enjoyed how you edited this video. I like your timing on the commentary. Also, where you fast forwarded and where you let the footage roll.

Excellent footage and great editing to boot. Loved the course topography overlays, music and the commentary. I’m amazed that you were able to switch Gopro batteries while you were beyond the limit. Chapeau. Great race. It’s freaky seeing those cars and trucks coming at you on these remote roads, especially after watching La Vuelta non-stop on a closed course. Glad Nebraskans are more considerate than Nor Cal drivers.

Finally some footage on what went down in this race… glad you got to film it. Here is my humble opinion: Now, you gotta look over and really see what you can do about wasting efforts, I think the excitement got the better of you very quickly and any potential strong riders will take advantage of that. I could see at least ten guys who were going full gas and I knew would be spat at the back when the real pressure was applied. You guys were going way too fast way too early … which means no group finish generally. Also once you get dropped, it’s normally a good idea to access is it worth chasing back on or waiting for your pace group? That first 50 was lots of matches … I thought, okay this is crazy to maintain, I reckon if you just stopped waited for group 2, let those front guys kill and burn each other and as the race closes you pick up each victim one by one. I reckon this course of action would had you finished in the top 10. I’m just glad you didn’t get caught up in the crosswind overlaps, pity it changed the whole race. Also if riders are using narrow bars then you don’t have the right control so that too could have been a factor on a surface that sure had its challenges. I think you got a good taste, you paid the school fees and now you know that it can get way better… but still managing a top 20 is an amazing job! Appreciate you sharing your experiences. Take care and keep peddling!
@jgoettl2.0 Жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching and the input. While I do agree I was both a bit too nice and I might have been better off waiting for group 2 and then riding a steadier pace for a better finish, I wanted to take advantage of the opportunity to ride with those guys at the front to see what it takes (all top 5 ridders we’re in that group) my long term goal is to eventually stick it out with them. Once they popped me and a few other riders off, their pace became more steady, so I was close to making it to that point! And on another plus side, it made for way better footage and a better video being in that pack!

Yeah… it makes sense if you up to takings look, but I wouldn’t choose the Nationals to window shop. That’s just self inflicted torture.😂😂🤣 but I really do look forward to 2024 season because I think we will definitely be seeing more of you up front. Again all my own opinions so it’s all good. At least it’s fun to break it down and be able to use the data etc. You have the engine now you just need to dial in the software! 👍🏻 just don’t go doing silly shit like testing equipment in a wind tunnel. 👍🏻

I didn't see Dylan Johnson in the results but I'm imaging him riding precisely 280w NP for the entire event. He's 20 min back two hours in but spends the next 3 hrs gradually reeling in guys to move up around 15-20 by the end 😅

I use final cut pro and export in pro res 422LT. From what I've researched, that seems to help, then having a bigger channel helps to, but ultimately, its up to KZbin which coding your video gets. I've had that issue too and its frustrating! best of luck!

Thanks! I ran the Pirelli gravel h in 40 and I will probably run the same tire in a 45, but I may also try a slick in 45, somthing like the challenge strade bianche. Awesome racing and fantastic footage! Two questions: 1) What was your biggest training factor in transitioning from an FTP of 300 W (around where I'm at) to being able to ride in this range for hours? Because for me, ~300W is a lot of muscular fatigue and torque on my legs, not just a cardio demand. 2) are you related to the Goettls on the North Shore of Lake Superior?
@jgoettl2.0 Жыл бұрын
Thank you! I can’t say any 1 factor was the biggest thing, maybe consistency. Key workouts would be z2 and sweet spot (3x20 SS is a killer) then some short efforts and intervals ahead of group rides to blend structure with enjoyment in the same ride! I don’t believe I’m related to those Goettl’s. My realatives are mostly southern MN.

@jgoettl2.06 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching’ Haha I’d be interested to see the science on how many watts hairy arms cost! We were in a “green zone” just before the aid station where we are allowed to throw our garbage when #8 got rid of it. The race volunteers come back to pick it up in that section!
@ZenEndurance6 ай бұрын
@@jgoettl2.0 Shaving arms does save watts, depends on how hairy you are. My arms aren't that bad, so luckily I don't have to decide. I'm not sure I could do it. I have a friend that does and it looks.... odd. Good news on the green zone! And again, great footage! Flat, sandy, and absent technical sections. I fail to understand how this could have been enjoyable or challenging outside of one’s ability to FTP for the duration of the course. Snoozeville.
@jgoettl2.0 Жыл бұрын
Sometimes its less about the course and more about the riders who show up! The sand and wind combo made it extremely challenging to ride as a group! If your a mountain biker I can see how you came to your conclusion, but if you've spent time racing on the road in crosswinds its easier to understand how mentally "on it" you have to be with positioning in the group.
