The car is built with a positive caster angle on the front tires, when going in reverse it's negative, the wheels shaking is not due to the controller but due to the lack of control of a negative caster angle, the wheels are always trying to go back to a positive angle.

I actually got this set early from a toy shop yesterday and I gotta say I love it! I don't have the beta app or anything so I actually created my own custom control interface! I found that the servo calibration block itself isn't perfect at all so I created buttons that would fine tune the servo to have a deafult more to the left or more to the right, in increments of 10. Your review of this set is epic and I gotta say I love the fart sound effect!

9:49 I've seen this same thing happen in RC cars, more commonly if using a gyro-sensing receiver. My best guess is the car thinks it's oversteering or understeering, but the car's gyro assumes it's still moving forward and incorrectly steers. As a hobbyist myself, I have yet to find an easy solution.

The in-app game reminds me of some of LEGO's proto-mixed-reality stuff from the '90s/early '00s. Some of it workd because it required interacting with physical things (e.g. Spybotics) but others were even worse than the buggy. It's a significant challenge to try to gamify toys but, as you say, the important thing is that you've got a physical toy to play with - you don't want to be looking away from it at a screen all the time. That buggy game *might* be good if it worked with 2 buggies and you could race and attack a real opponent... maybe.
@RacingBrick
@RacingBrick 3 жыл бұрын
That'd require sensors and other (expensive) equipment on the buggies to detect each other, and the dual control/focus issue is still there to resolve. I don't see how this could work unless they try something like Mario Kart Live.

I checked the L and the XL in my Arocs-Scale trucks, they have two drive motors and a weight of 5 to 6 kg (my TGX with the container trailer). With the L the technic hub shuts down earlier than with the XL.
@ewanchalker9648
@ewanchalker9648 2 жыл бұрын
I tested the L motor with a traditional geared rack steering setup, and it couldn't even get past the calibration process without popping out of gear or exploding the whole assembly. I see why they used this odd steering setup: the steering program for powered up isn't sensitive enough for delicate technic parts. I was hoping to convert some classic technic sets to Powered Up, but this is a big setback.

Battle Mode seems like a response to Mario Kart Live's AR elements. Just, y'know, without the AR elements or any sense of fun. Maybe they're planning to update it with a two-player mode? I noticed a lot of the marketing features 2 kids driving 2 cars. Perhaps they're holding off on it during the launch of the set, so it doesn't come across as 'hey, you just bought this expensive new car; now you gotta buy a second one to get the complete experience'. (Or maybe a 2-player battle mode was the plan, but Lego's marketing said 'nope, we're not convincing kids to spend €260 on two cars' and the designers tried to salvage the mode with a virtual opponent. Either way, not a great look, Lego.) Thanks for the review!

The best way to make any Lego set motorized and remote controllable is simply build a traditional rc chassis of it's size then fit the frame on it. The longer Lego doing it the worst it gets imo after watching all these pre-release reviews on YT.

Brilliant review as always, thank you. As a 60+ builder I, like you hate the rubbish controller. Every comment you made regarding this mirrors mine. Joystick control really? I would never use any of the other stupid stuff. Much better if they say had a mode which restricted the power a bit and then a Nitro boost button with a limit on use. Could make racing with another model much more fun. Another button use, random race start lights. Press the button and F1 style start, easy to rate, as the controller could measure how quickly you could be on the start. Add Buwizz (hint) and then you would have a really great model to review I think.

I like the knobby, realistic tires, and I'm surprised how it has such a low piece count. Also, RB, to clarify, it's RADIO controlled, not remote controlled. Remote controlled cars are those ancient ones, which have a cable between the remote and the car, or the kind that uses IR. Modern R/Cs use radio waves, and thus the controller is called a transmitter, or radio. Just a little detail that kinda bugs me. Great video though! Edit: Yeah, the sound effects are bizarre, although my sister will find it hilarious...kids and farts, don't even get me started about that...and the "battle" thing is just downright strange.
@RacingBrick
@RacingBrick 3 жыл бұрын
I guess the remote vs radio label can be an issue for RC enthusiasts only :) I think we can agree that the Tx *is* a remote that uses radio waves, so technically it is remote controlled as it's a bigger category :) If you have a look at Amazon or Walmart, they also categorize these as remote controlled, that's a common term used.
@RacingBrick

Dear Racing Brick. I have two questions. Where did you get the remote controller that you have in your hands? You are controlling the Lego Technic 42124 Off-road buggy with it. By the way, does it works with other Lego Technic remote controlled sets too, normally controlled by the Lego Technic app on Android devices like smartphones and tablet computers?
@RacingBrick
@RacingBrick 3 жыл бұрын
You can buy the remote at lego.com, the number is 88010. Without the Powered Up app it only works with the AAA hub, but if you create a control profile for it in the Powered Up app just like I did then you can configure it for any set you prefer. Here's a video about it in action with a previous version of the app, now the configuration can be even more simple - kzbin.info/www/bejne/nn3Fo2epnpeEnNU
