Martin Dwyer is a natural. He doesn't side-track or distract. At times, he just pointed Jamie in the direction he wanted him to go and let him off, and at others, he just laid the bait trail for Jamie to follow. Brilliant interview! Really enjoyed that, thank you.

Dwyer is a deceptively good interviewer - all very natural and relaxed. Always liked Jamie as a jockey but didn't realise what a good and decent character he is - nothing bad to say about anyone.

A fab, exciting, edgy, even cocky, but brilliant horseman who sparks controversy with almost every ride, As good as any from the front with an exceptional head for sectionals and the kindest hands Ive ever seen. Hes peerless when it comes to switching one off and kidding it into a race ,, Jamie has always been a well mannered articulate man who Ive admired since day one.

Entertaining and tricks of the trade. Jamie must have taught Damian Oliver in Australia about the slight squeeze at the distance. As an athlete if I lead from 200m would leave lane one, almost, to tempt any chaser to delay an attack to take that gap but would shut the door enough to make him hesitate but not enough to get an objection. But I was normally a sit, sleep, wait and sprint late type as everyone goes too hard early and get baulked trying to get a position so early in a race. Horses are not Formulae One cars.....but some jockeys ride thinking they are. These guys are genuine and sincere with the chit chat and not being polite to avoid anything contentious. Jamie was not to be provoked to be judgemental on who is / was the best jockey and he merely told it as it is. I did stats for UK trainers re jockey skills and apart from those that got into a big yard of good horses, the stats showed that there are 120 riders who do much the same thing re getting the best out of a horse at any odds. It is the horse that wins most races. If I were a trainer would liven things up and get the apprentices to a supermarket and get 'em to race from the car park in and out all the aisles with left and right hand turns and back but with 100 yards to the line. Pain is the best teacher in Life for all things. Jamie is his own man and understand his view saying that the best asset in life is each other as humane beings. Racing can be very rewarding but can akso be very unforgiving. Certainly demonstrates to us all that even in mid life there are many opportunities over the horizon with our name on it just waiting for us to rock up. Thanks for a relaxed insight with many a good yarn.

I had my biggest bet ever on Hawk Wing in the 2,000 and I didn't blame Jamie, extremely unfortunate to be drawn in the middle which was about 10L slower that were Rock of Gibraltar run. Factor in that the Rock was at the time part owned by Alex Ferguson and they mucked about with HW distance wise so they never bumped into each other again. I still look out for JP at the big meetings as he always pops up with a big price winner. Great jockey back in the day and given the right horse he still is up there with the best around today.

I disagree that he only rides one type of race ,I have seen him win races front running it is true he prefers to come through the field which makes him more noticeable .He is a person of strong opinions and is used by top trainers on a regular basis who would not use him if he was a maverick. He did lose the Aiden job probably because they did not jell and possibly he ignored instructions .I too have watched racing for 60 years and in my opinion he is not the worse jockey I have seen far from it .He is the Marmite jockey

The. Problem with this guy is that he only likes to ride at the back and then come through like hot knife through butter. But it doesn't always work. He never learnt how to keep horses interested in a race and or dominate pace. So as a painter you are left with the one trick Pony. But Good luck to him.
