Dr. Farhana Loonat is an instructor I had at SVC while pursuing my AA. I am now pursuing my BA about two years after taking her classes. She is among the instructors whose words and teachings have stuck with me the most. I entered her class with my eyes closed to our society and its systems of power and left seeing structures I could have never imagined or understood prior. It was difficult at first to come to some of the realizations she helped guide me to, but I am eternally grateful to her for doing so.

Yes!! I had the great privilege of working with Dr. Loonat, and I can attest to her tireless dedication to her students-their education and their wellbeing-and to creating a more equitable world. I encourage every educator who watches this to take Dr. Loonat’s words to heart. This is not just a problem at our small school; it’s on every campus in the US, and if Academia wants to retain exemplary educators like Dr. Loonat, the systems need to change.

Excellent work, Dr. Loonat! I hope that many people see this presentation, and--hopefully and more importantly!--learn from it and begin to implement change in their institutions and their policies. Thank you for being such an outstanding person, illuminating scholar, exemplary activist, and superb teacher...and the latter not only to your students (whether they choose to learn from you or not), but to your colleagues in faculty and administration, with myself certainly included, and we can hope that all of these also choose to rightly learn from you in significant ways. You are the best! :)

So important, thank you for committing yourself to speaking up about and addressing systemic inequities in large systems of power like higher education. There will be many future researchers citing (Loonat et al.) in their work!

What a phenomenal presentation, Dr. Loonat! I remain just as humbled, inspired and empowered as the moment I met you in my first SVC faculty meeting at the location formally known as Farmhouse Inn in January, 2016. I wish you nothing but peace and love as you continue to illuminate the world with your brilliance and indomitable strength. -- Estevan
