I wasn't going to post this on my main channel, but whatever. If it's too long you don't have to watch it.
I'm not an expert, there are other people who know more about this subject. These were just my feelings as this happened.
(I decided to monetize this video and donate any of the proceeds, in case you're wondering why there are ads)

It is a difficult subject. You took it on and handled it responsibly. I was glad you had the support of your mom and sister. It is never easy engaging in conversations like this, but they must be had.

There is an old saying. Lies, dam lies, and statistics. You can prove anything depending with the way you look at the numbers. I like the way you talked about this.

@@TheChrisConrad Let's see, he is either your cousin or uncle, 40 years old and Australian and your comments will likely cause dissension in your family. No, I don't know you and I don't know your family, but I do believe in the right of all people to have their own opinions and not be subjected to having someone with an audience broadcast what should be a personal interraction to KZbin. If you feel comfortable doing so, so be it.

@@TheChrisConrad I can, of course, understand your viewpoint, and I appreciate your expanding on your views. We are all a bit different; I'm more empathetic than I assume you to be, so I was silent about being gay until I was in my 20's. I didn't want to burden my parents; as to whether this was cowardice or consideration is up for debate. Good luck to you.

Hi Chris, Where does one begin?! I live in Mpls/St. Paul. These last 2weeks have been profoundly sad and stressful, especially being so close to it. Parts of south Mpls look like Detroit in terms of so many businesses and even homes being boarded up. Kuch less damage on my side of the river in St. Paul. To the larger issues you touched on: first off, the alleged president of Anerica is beyond redeeming himself. Sad to say, even to our fellow Canadian friends, I still say the election is Trump's to lose. I am sure PM Trudesu will not be happy about that. By the way, we were heartened to hear him last week. As hard as it is, people must find a way to talk and especially about race. You are correct in that for 401 years black people have been oppressed in the US. Many gains have been made, but for about 80 years after the Civil War, Jim Crow was the law in the South. But, as with so many issues, people dig in and polarization usxwhat we have. If we cannot have reasoned debate with relatives, how will we do so with others? Not an admonishment, but we can do better. I have a friend in where we have vastly different positions on issues. He is an evangelical Christian conservative Republican. Me, a gay Catholic who is observant and left of center. But, somehow we calmly and rationally debate. The purpose is not to change minds, but to understand where each of us is coming from. The uncle with all the stats: I would question his sources. Sone if them may be accurate, but not all. And if he is seeing any news on TV, the protests have been very diverse in terms of race and age. As for the riots and looting, that is where I depart from many others. It is counter-productive and only hardens the virulent racists and causes others less so to develop such racism. Too many innocent victims, many of whom are sympathetic to the unjust and criminal murder of Mr. Floyd and the problematic systemic criminal justice system in the US. This has been a little rambling but I would end by recommending a book that is now more popular and is out of stock at Amazon. It was published about 2 years ago: WHITE FRAGILITY- Why It's So Hard For White People To Talk About Racism. Author- ROBIN D'ANGELO. A real eye opener.

Chris, Just went back to your video to check the comments and when I clicked on, a Trump campaign ad popped on. Interesting😀 ironic Meant to congratulate you on a great upload. Especially from north of the border. I don't mind some You Tubers discussing politics at times, but I understand the reticence. Twitter and Facebook have been awful with comments. I have heard that, though I do neither. Oh, tell uncle whoever that his crime stats vis-a-vis blacks are incorrect.

My stepdad is a hardcore trump supporter, and it does make it very difficult to live. There are trump-themed things everywhere, even the shower curtain. It makes it hard to live because the future looks bleak, so I understand your pain. Also, debating over Facebook is like playing chess with a pigeon. The pigeon will knock down all the pieces and walk around as if it has won. No matter how much reason you give, there is no getting through. The best one can do is to make sure that others don't fall for conspiracy theories and remind people to check for citations. I remember in school, we had a thing called the CRAAP test to choose sources to cite. the CRAAP acronym needs a lot of explaining, and it is best to look it up.

If you think if at the moment when a cop decides whether to give a citation vs an arrest internal biases can come into the equation. if someone looks like your nephew or cousin you may give him a break, where as if someone is not like someone you can relate to it is easier to say well he needs to be arrested. That is why there is a skewed statistic regarding minorities. we know that for example in jobs employers tend to hire people who share their backgrounds irrespective of laws to prevent that it just happens, people tend to surround themselves with people they have cultural commonalities with and that spills over to hiring, to criminal justice system, to housing. In the end it is exposure to other people that lessens the chances of biases but because neighborhoods are segregated either by choice or because of income inequalities then you end up with these situations. Suburban schools receive more money although the taxes receive from cities are more abundant

I am hoping that they change this system that has been around for years without going the full distance for change. They were hoping that this would claim down in a week or two and are surprised that it is not going away. Education is the key to almost everything.

My baby brother (he's over 60) is a HUGE Trump fan. But then he's also told me on occasion that I'm going to hell. After a couple years, maybe less, I gave up and put him in a special group on Facebook (he's the only member) where he can't see my stream and I don't have to deal with him. After my father died I was visiting mom and I noticed she was using Sarah Palin's book as a doorstop. I asked and she said a friend had given it to her for Christmas. My mother reveres books. They all go on shelves in the library, except this one. Among other things it told me she probably never discussed politics with father and that her vote pretty much always canceled his.

Sorry but if a family member was as racist as your uncle I would have called them out too. Screw the family ties, this is peoples lives at stake, think of the racism he probably spreads to people and your other family members. People need educating and if they cannot see it and you guys fall out, so be it. That's how I would be anyway. Good to know your mum and other family members are good eggs.

What i am afraid of is that your familymember (or any other out there) is a military should be a peace kieper but if that person is a person that thinks like that (aka a rasist) than i am woried when they go overseas and go with that mind set. Nobody is perfect but that makes me gittery (Btw i don’t think the louting isnt being done by the protesters)
