The Daily’s final round table before Election Day features three of The New York Times’s top campaign reporters -- Astead Herndon, Shane Goldmacher and Lisa Lerer -- discussing the big events of the past several days, including Donald Trump’s giant rally at Madison Square Garden in New York, Kamala Harris’s closing argument to voters, and fears about election interference fueled by ballot arson in three different states.

We ain't seen nothin' yet. Do you think Putin's going to stop at making fake videos of ballots in Bucks County? I'm seeing massive cyber attacks on targetted districts on Nov 5, as well as more and more incidents that will provide pretexts to throw out votes. At least two of those flaming ballot boxes were in blue states, as were the fake ballots in CO. The point isn't to actually affect the count - it's to provide pretexts for challenges to states Harris will win.

Good chat - you're hitting the nail on the head, especially when you talk about how many of the people don't think Trump is talking about him, when he slams a group, even if its your group. Its a foolish belief, but central to how Trump gets votes. There's this thinking that, I'm not Trans, I'm not an illegal immigrant, I'm not a person of colour, so he's not talking about me. But we are all human beings and when we bail on our fellow humans, we demean our own humanity - which is what Trump wants - for everyone to demean humanity.

This is a wonderful conversation. What struck me immediately is when they were talking about how the issue of how “democracy“ doesn’t land , the reason being is because in my opinion as an educator, is that there’s not enough of generational memory in the general United States population and also because of the lack of civics and history education ,practicing of critical, thinking, and interpretation, and the knowledge taught of what has gone on in the past and why it’s so critical at this moment for democracy to hold firm for the future for the global world. Remember past is prologue. I live in Europe and that is never far from our lives of what has happened in generations past and why it’s so important to prevent what happened in the past to come forward as action in the future. I’m so sorry for all of this, and I pray that democracy wins this election. 💙💙💙

Our education system is so F-ed. Watch any interview of a Maga supporter at a rally and tell me better education wouldn't have avoided a hate fueled movement like this one. So, calling Trump supporters names such as: hate-fueled and uneducated, so you may offer these self-appointed character assessments as evidence is a sound form of argumentation? lol No worries; this type of irrational, illogical argument is pretty typically from the Left. We're fairly use to it, and likely why this rally appears racist, hatful, and in the way that this does to this panel. But, just so you're clear - a fair portion of his supporters are college-educated - more and very. Personally, when I hear some people speak [Dems or not] I think to myself, I am certainly glad I was educated at a uni that values providing a well-rounded education versus acquiring money. I still feel, and have for a while, that there's an inherent racism (probably from ignorance and not malice) in grouping all hispanics, or others into groups. There is no "latino/a vote". They're people, same as any other race. Mexican, Cuban, Puerto Rican, Guatemalan, Peruvian, and so on. A hugely diverse continent exists beneath North America and it's incredibly frustrating to continue to hear discussions of the "latino vote" or the "hispanic vote", because it ignores the realities of who people are their countries and cultures are, breaking them down to what's believed to be the lowest common denominator. Please stop this.

One thing about the bro / Joe Rogan voter is they’re hyper-competitive. Don’t underestimate the power of a reflexively wounded ego craving a win, particularly after what happened in 2020. For some of them it’s key to their identity, make no mistake. It’s how they approach their video games, their sports betting, their entire worldview. Chip on their shoulder disgruntled competitiveness. I do think educated women are gearing up to school Trump this time, but the idea these guys will feel *any* less motivated is wrong I think.
@Archflip
@Archflip 27 күн бұрын
See, the hard part for me is seeing how to formulate arguments that call upon that hyper-competitive mentality when they also keep saying the game is rigged. That's why I think the stuff like ballot box burning happens. The "competition" is not worth legally participating in, but it is worth winning at any cost. This is the result of those ideas colliding.

I totally agree with you. Because I live in Europe and I’m an overseas voter I always have to “Fax“ my ballot which I have for years and years however, this year my fax machine broke. However, again, no one else has a fax machine. Not the post office not local businesses and so I was forced then to give it to The Consulate near where I live and they put it in their diplomatic pouch however… It gets put into the US mail at the end of its journey and now I’m sitting here waiting on tender hooks to see if it’s going to be counted. I started this procedure a month ago. I’m really upset. When it was faxed, it was counted immediately upon receipt. So I think that scanning it and sending it that way, even if it’s in a PEC email would be a good thing . I hope they change their protocol soon. I forgot the timestamp on when it was said (and don't wanna look it up) but someone said Kamala's closing argument is mainly good with moderate Republicans who think the status quo is good and working. Obviously that's a VERY stupid thing to think if you look at all the times our idiot congress has been close to shutting down the government but I think that's the point as to why the Harris campaign is running those ads. Siphoning off the Haley supporters with appeals like that are the reason for those ads. I don't know if it's smart since regular people care more about price gouging and housing affordability, but its certainly something. As far as abortion (as a man myself), it's kind of weird no one's focused on the men that have been negatively affected by women in their lives losing access to it. The men who lost women who've needlessly lost their lives from having a medical abortion delayed. The men who were forced to raise kids neither parent were ready for. The men who helped women have an abortion because their home state banned it. There's also the fact that sex education and contraceptive access expansion haven't even entered the conversation to any extent. The possibility and opportunity to focus there in an election where Trump is ahead among men by a fair amount. Seems like dropping the ball to an extent.

If you vote for a pussy grabbing, racist, traitor who tried to overthrow the government, who lies as easily as he breaths, who is more interested in you lining his pockets than what he can do for you, whose sole accomplishment in his term was the tax break for the ultra wealthy to buy a second yacht, who appointed judges designed to overthrow Roe v Wade, who denigrated our veterans for their service, who deliberately separated children from their parents at the border, who will give Ukraine to Putin, who supports bombing Gaza and the Palestinians to dust without any plans to get the hostages out or plans for how that would make the Middle East in any way stable in the future, who pulled us from the Paris Climate accord, who still wants to overturn Obamacare but after 9 years still only has "concepts of a plan" of how to fix or replace it , you are morally, patriotically and / or intellectually garbage.

MIchelle Obama is NOT a politician. That is how she speaks so freely but it's not fair to stand her up next to politicians or someone running for the White House and say "Wow, Kamal never did this". There is a reason Michelle keeps reiterating that she is not a politician -- she is exercising the freedoms that she has because she is not a politician. Really I think this should be understood by the commentators and not misconstrued like this.

So far, an interesting discussion. RE: not projecting a vision of the future, this is where former President Trump started his campaign. I watched his original announcement and he had nothing new to say - it was a reminiscence of his term in office. If he does lose the election, it may be because of this (plus even his supporters' annoyance about his personal traits). I am not particularly impressed with Vice President Harris, but the question is: do we wish to "turn the page" (and get us baby boomers off the stage)?

WTF?? You guys live in New York - in 2020 DonOld got nearly 700,000 votes in NYC alone - more votes than he got in Alaska, Wyoming and North Dakota --- COMBINED. He got more votes just in NYC the "blue" home of MSG, than he got in Idaho, Nebraska, West Virginia, Montana or South Dakota. That one of the most famous entertainers in the world for a decade was able to fill MSG is NOT in any way surprising!

They're legacy/corporate media, whose credibility and trust has collapsed over the last couple decades. This is the dying gasp of out of touch coastal elites. They're being replaced by online personalities and journalists, and instead of adjusting accordingly they cling to the only thing they know. This one podcast got 30k views, Rogan got 40+ million, just on KZbin, and yet they call his audience 'Rogan Bros'. They lack even the most basic level of self-awareness.

Poor choice for sure. 5: George Lopez spoke at a Democrat rally and called mexicans thieves. Equally distasteful for a political rally but still jokes.

2 issues rise to the top of legions of issues. One, women's reproductive healthcare is a Family issue, lifesaving care for women keeps families intact, men and children are not abandoned because of a pregnancy gone sideways. Two; Reagan read scripts generated by Heritage undermining government. He test drove it in California ( the damage he set in motion in CA still chugging along) Then he took it national his anti gov narrative, boosted with Gingrich's divisive narrative set the stage for Trumpism.
