I see a lot of folks bashing on Ethan here. Anonymous poker 'experts'. Ethan does make some bad plays. He also makes some good plays. He has a couple of rings from WSOP, and he has done well in a few other tournaments as well and that is better than most of us. Tournament poker is a mixture of luck and skill. Sometimes, you have a take a chance. You try and limit those chances and to take the ones that lean towards you, but you do have to take that chance sometimes if you want to win. I have won a few smaller tournaments. You don't win by always having the best hand. His vlogs are honest. We all get to see the bad choices that most of us would edit out if we were vlogging it....lol. There is a difference between giving him feedback and just being a d***. Some of you are being d's. And even if he does not play perfect GTO poker, his style works for him overall. His wildness gets him paid off when he does have a big hand. IMO, his weakest spot is not tournaments, it is high stakes cash on a stream. I think he feels like he has to put on a show when it is being streamed and it frequently costs him dearly. //cheers

To be honest, I would have felt far more comfortable shoving with QJ off than A6 off. Being so close to the money and going out sucks, but you could have gone out with no bounties and been stuck $10K. Only being down $1000 in that scenario is pretty close to a 'win' IMO

IMO, that kinda play is what has made him wild and successful at cash, but likely crushed his bankroll for the wsop. Over the long run, those moves will catch up. It's fun to see him suck out, and I appreciate the bold moves, but when you put your tourney/bankroll at risk when truly questionable at best...Oh well. in high stakes Turbo set ups, even with the best crushers in the world, these games run pretty standard aggressive+, with the higher 3b/4b frequencies against covered stacks to bounty up, and you'll find VPIPs early on are high to build up the stacks for the bubble, which has become more standard early on to build those piles up. You'll commonly see the usual semi bluff spots we may define them as, considered pure value bets in certain spots. I also tend to notice significantly wider suited connectors that show up a ton 3-4 way in late position or the blinds, as so many of these holdings 56+ will crush spots against offsuit Broadways or gapped face cards. Almost non existent overfold frequencies early on (outside of our tighter opponents with decent stacks waiting to pick up some better spots to do so.) But much higher over calling and even limp raising frequencies. Stack depths were also noted as primarily short near the bubble. With wicked fast increasing blinds against these players, strategy before the money follows typical high stakes scenarios such as those limp raising frequencies. What you will also find is how fast they can calculate their equity against likely combos in multi way spots, which is really scary to play against in lower stakes. Koon and Dwan discussed certain spots and how quick they were able to determine their exact equities. Much more turn/river overbetting, and the most optimal strengths being the near perfect sizings based on hand strengths science with majority shorter stacks, and minimal opportunities to wait for any sort of premiums. Before the final 4-5 tables, strategy usually leans towards a ton of 3b folds to 4b and aggressive protection bets. More early street pot building, flop bets leaning heavier towards polar ranges on boards that make us scratch our heads. Ethan's play style will play much better at higher stakes, however it's key to develop a reverse range for yourself against what other players might put you on in a given spot, which the best will use for close decisions on making bluffs or value overbets
