Although you won't find the definition of "drawback" in a dictionary, as it pertains to string clamps, I'll define, demonstrate, and discuss this occurrence when stringing a racquet.
After I got my Babolat Evolution Tour last year, I noticed a "drawback" in my string clamps, so I decided to do more research on this topic.
For my research, I contacted some of my colleagues to enlist their help in making the production of this video possible.
If you're in their area and want to inquire about racquet services, here's how to contact them.

you to babolat: what's up with the drawback? babolat: It's just an illusion lmao
@AMstringing
@AMstringing Ай бұрын
Aloha, The "illusion" that John was referring to is due to the higher clamping distance, which makes the drawback more noticeable because of the higher clamp angle. In other words, if the clamping distance is lower, the drawback is less noticeable because of the lower clamp angle. In either scenario there is some amount of drawback. Stayed tuned for Episode 2, when the other half of the picture is revealed.🤙

Excellent video Albert. I'll check the height distance on my dropweight machine as well. I too believe manufacturing tolerances are key to minimizing drawback 😊

Aloha Javier, Thanks for watching! I'm assuming your drop-weight machine has fixed clamps! 😂 I don't have much experience with drop-weight machines. It would be interesting to find out the string clamp rail distances on those machines, too! 🤙

Hey Albert, my dropweight machine is a 6 point mount with 2 string clamps on linear rails, just as your machine, except for the electronic tensioning device and the circular rails. There are some other dropweight machines that are much more basic and they have only 2 mounting points (head and throat) and require the use of flying clamps

@@javierjimenez786 Can you measure the string clamp rail distance from the rail to the center of the "V" in the support arms? Also, what brand and model is your machine?
@javierjimenez786
@javierjimenez786 Ай бұрын
Hey Albert, sorry for my late response, the string clamp rail distance to the center of the "V" in my machine is 6 ½ inches. It is a Penta Premium Stringer 3600 stringing machine I bought online from a tennis store based in the UK
@AMstringing
@AMstringing Ай бұрын
@@javierjimenez786 The 6-1/2" distance is less than that of these machines. I hope your drawback is minimal and your recovery is 100%! 🤙

Thanks for the video, and special thanks for including the info for the Neos 1000! I love my old Neos machine, so it's nice to see how it compares to the more high tech machines. On another note, recently a friend of mine used an app to measure tension on two of my racquets. Both of these racquets had been strung by me on my neos 1000 at the same tension. One was a Pure Aero 2019, and the other was a Pure Aero 2023. The 2019 racquet had been played with longer, and I could tell the tension had dropped a lot, but the 2023 measured lower according to the app. I'm curious if you have researched these apps? (I don't remember the specific one he was using)
@AMstringing

Aloha Travis, I've only used the RacquetTune app and found it to be fairly accurate. The important thing to note is that without the initial tension reading right after it comes off the stringing machine, you'll have no reference point to track tension loss. In the case of the two Pure Aeros, the 2023 model may have started with a lower reading to begin with. However, this doesn't seem to make sense since this model has a 16x20 string pattern versus the 16x19 on the 2019 model. And normally, a denser string pattern will string up tighter. Other factors to consider that could influence the tension readings. 1) Were both racquets strung with the same string? 2) Were both racquets strung with the same gauge? Food for thought. 🤙
@gatorgib
@gatorgib Ай бұрын
@@AMstringing Yes, I had the same thought with the new tighter string pattern. The feel I get from the 2023 racquet is definitely more controlled and less powerful (which I prefer). And yes, they were both strung with Solinco Confidential from the same reel. I wonder if there is not enough data from the 2023 in the app conversion factor? Thanks for the response!
@AMstringing
@AMstringing Ай бұрын
@@gatorgib Other than setting the app according to the specific string pattern, the only other thing I can think of, is if the racquets were not strung on the same day. But then again, the key is to take an initial tension reading right after the racquet comes off the machine to get a baseline reference point. 🤙

WELL ONE GOOD THING ABOUT CONSTANT PULL IS DRAW BACK DONT MATTER. It pulls and compensates on next pull. Simply put ,,, if you lost 1 point with drawback on the next pull it is constant pulled to whatever tension

Aloha, Yes, that's what you would think; unfortunately, that wasn't the case with my old Star 4. 😏

Does tightening/adjusting the clamp base help to reduce the drawback? Did you have to tighten the clamp base since you got the evolution tour?

Hello Albert! Thanks. It was really informative. Do You know if there is any correlation between tension los and racket head size?
@AMstringing

Aloha Asesor, Thanks for watching. I'm happy to hear the video was useful. 🤔That's a good question, and I never really thought about it. However, with all things created equal (reference tension, string, and gauge), one would think that a larger head with longer strings would stretch out more and lose tension sooner. Just curious, was there a specific reason why you asked? 🤙

THE NEOS 1000,,, albeit lock out,,, is the only machine that may defeat drawback. Don’t really see it to much with tecnifibre

Hi Albert. Another great video. So I was stringing an Aero right after watching your video and took notice that even with draw back once you tension the next string, the draw back gets resolved. This is on a P5000. I didn’t watch for EVERY instance but in this one case that I filmed here is what I saw happening. Sorry for the shoddy camerawork. 😅 kzbin.infof6qdmhUOFN4?si=v6byLdXOFc_Z42E2 So does drawback really matter if it resolves itself on the next string??
