I can give one recommendation, I started training my cat to come when I call him, (which comes in handy come dusk when he is still outside.) So anytime he comes inside I say his name or tell him "time for dinner" and feed him his treat, and now anytime dusk rolls around I call his name a few times and he comes right inside. Short, to the point, and quite informative great video!

Hannah, that is a good idea! I did this with my cats but didn't think about it since none of them are allowed to go outside by themselves anymore since we moved from our house with property to living full-time in our RV. One thing I have always done is tell the cats to go home while we are going there so they know where home is. I tell lost dogs and cats to go home hoping they know where their home is and hoping if someone told my lost cat to "go home" they would listen.

RV cat story to share...We were spending the winter in an RV park and had out 2 dogs and 2 cats with us. One evening, we had company over for dinner and somehow one of our cats managed to slip out the door. She was a very timid cat, so I knew she would be hiding somewhere.Long story short, after a week of looking for her, I happened to be lurking around our neighbours 5th wheel and as I was calling her, I heard a meow. I kew they had a cat too, so assumed it was theirs. Later they told me their cat does not meow. It was very old and deaf too. So, now I had narrowed down the location. It turned out our little cat had crawled up into the space under their 5th wheel where the ducting and pipes were. She somehow wiggled up into the space around one of the stabilizer legs. She was gone a whole week and was still too timid to come out when I was right there. Tried tempting her with treats, but nope. We set a live trap thinking she might be coming out at night. But, we caught our other cat who had begun venturing out at night. Our neighbours said they would go out for the day and take their dogs and I could be inside their RV and call our cat. They thought they could hear her through a vent under the stairs up to the over box area.So, I got a can of salmon and took the vent cover off and sat there waiting. Eventually should couldn't stand it any longer and came out for the salmon. Whew! I was so relieved.

So glad you got her back 😸. That is a long time not being able to get your cat back when you knew she was so close. I’m glad mine come back after a couple of hours or at least night time. The longest my outside feral cats were gone (when they only came inside for bed, before living in the RV) was 3 days. I walked the property calling them at all hours of the day and night. I also had the neighbors check their barn. We had an ice storm and it was cold out, I was worried sick they froze to death. They came back like nothing happened and it was such a relief.

Best tip is keep a basic harness on the cat with a tracker on it all the time. No break away. Make it tight enough so they cannot wiggle out of it easily but not too tight. We let them roam around and they stay close wherever we go and if we don't see them, we track them with the GPS. Trackers only work in areas with cell coverage, so we test it out to make sure it's working well. Our kitties know not to go too far. They like their freedom and don't want to be lost. They know my car or the trailer is their home...mobile home when we are not at our house, so they have a great sense. They are used to exploring their surroundings wherever we go. We take them on trips, excursions, but every day I take of the three with me doing roadside assistance and towing, so they are very comfortable going places. I also have key finders on them so if they are playing hide and seek I can hear the beeping works up to about 30 feet. The GPS will get you close enough so that if they are trapped in a place or up a tree or playing hard to get, you can hear it. We use Whistle and has helped locate our cats several times over the many years we've used it. Twice our runt was taken by people who thought she was lost. GPS led us right to their home. Worth the money.

I find it so cute that the cat who was found at the junkyards name is Diesel and that he used to hide in trucks. The irony! Talk about a fitting name 💙

It started off as “No Name” because we couldn’t think of a good name for him. Then the perfect name dawned on us when he was sitting under a sign that said “Diesel Only.” His full name is Diesel Only Dou. 😻

Great tips!! The only thought I have is that I would always use a hard side carrier if the cats will be unattended for any length of time. I find most cats are far less likely to break out of a securely latched, hard plastic carrier. I have a similar backpack & have only ever used it for walks when I am present around the cat. I just don't trust soft enclosures with zippers for unattended cats. I also feel hard carriers offer a little more protection from flying debris in the possibility of a motor vehicle accident.
@MobileRVTechServices2 жыл бұрын
Good point! We now have 4 hard sided carriers that we use when the cats to sit outside vs the backpacks. I like the security of the hard cage to for any length of time in case a small wild animal tries to attack them.

Do you inject the Acepromazine, or give them a tablet? How do you get a feisty cat to tolerate a tablet?
@MobileRVTechServices3 жыл бұрын
Hi Michael, we use a pill shooter to give the cats any pills. This video at 2:00 shows me using it: kzbin.info/www/bejne/b4TSlJWEe7KYptk. When I give Dasey a pill, I always wear gloves because she likes to put her claws out and they can puncture my skin. The only other way to give a cat a pill that works for me is placing it in their wet food and they lick it up. Somethings you have to wrap it in a tiny piece of lunch meat to cove the pill so the pill will not make the wet food taste bad so the cat will eat it.

I live full time in my converted van and my 6 year old cat screams, poops n pees whenever i take him even for short rides. So I don't. I've lived and parked on this property for 3 years and Toby has no fear of sleeping in my van and some stormy days staying in all day albeit with complaints. I am leaving for full time travel, campgrounds, RV resorts and Boon docking and im scared to death Toby will run away and thoughts run rampant in my head about terrible scenarios. Can anyone lend some advice. I'm desperate to make the transition a success and eventually have Toby enjoy nomadic life with me. Thank you.

I am new to this and just about to take our maiden voyage... I bought those same harnesses for my 2 cats... Did you say that yours backed out of it one time??? That worries me.
@MobileRVTechServices3 жыл бұрын
If they are struggling to get away, they can back out of these harnesses. When my two orange cats get frightened, I just let the leash go that way there’s no tension on the harness and it can’t pull off of them. The only run a little ways and then they stop and huddle down so I can go pick them up. They also act like they can run fast in the harness or run up trees. If the harness pulls off of them, then that’s a different story, they can run fast and can get away. I don’t let my orange cats out on the harness unless we are at my mother-in-law’s property. My other two cats don’t get off of the harness and will come back if I call them.

Do cats just use the bathroom outside when you're going on walks or hikes?
@MobileRVTechServices3 жыл бұрын
Mine do not. Squeak (indoor cat) didn’t go to the bathroom outside for about 2 years. He finally peed outdoors after the orange feral cats taught him. He will go if necessary but holds until he can use the litter box. He pees outside now about 4 times a year.

HI Abby, we found it's best to park somewhere with trees with active birds, squirrels or wildlife for the cats to watch. It keeps them entertained for hours. When we are parked somewhere without wildlife, we have to entertain the cats ourselves.
