what a brilliantly explained video. Watched soo many and this articulated it well. Thank you for taking the time to do this for us handy DIY'ers. 1 question, could you install the lock on the door before you hang the entire assembly, THEN after door and frame is installed, transfer the location of deadbolt on the frame? any foreseen issues by doing it this way (for ease) ?

Nice look and nice door. I see one issue with this type of door. The lock side of the door is a weak place since you have a window next to it. That type of door would look good in a place where they are no criminals loose in nature. I would suggest that you remake that door, but make one with security in mind where no one will be able to bust the door open by force.
@JefferLin8 күн бұрын
Great build. Very handsome. Question: Why don't you predrill the lock and strike in the shop? Why onsite? Thx.
@RadDadBuilds7 күн бұрын
Hey thanks, and great question. I honestly don’t know why i waited. I guess maybe incase anything shifted during the installation but that shouldn’t be the case. I think it would be totally fine to pre drill in the shop.

you don't need a 4th hinge i have hung the heaviest solid oak doors with just 3 heavy duty hinges [good quality] and never had a call back in 40 years size of screws you use is more important than and extra hinge just remember if your a dyi guy only worry about fitting 2 hinges to begin with just cut and fit the top and bottom hinges get it hung make sure it has an equal space and opens and closes good then fit the 3rd hinge trying to line up 3 hinges a once will wreck your whole day use a level and a square those one and a quarter inch screws in the hinges are too small should have bumped them up to something beefier and another thing to be careful of is silicone in some cases if used to install sealed glass units you can void the warranty as the acid in the silicone can eat the seals in the glass double glaze. butyl tape might be a better alternative and also remember nothing sticks to silicone except silicone so don't get it anywhere you want to paint or glue or well any thing

This(these) is/are really helpful and well done tutorials . Will sub . For installing hinges , I like SO much to use ‘self-centering’ drill bits - #6 mostly . I’d used quality countersink bits for 25+ years for this application and often , (especially if hinges were used on a wood like Douglas Fir - that had intermittent soft then harder grain) was less than pleased with hinge-screws not being exactly centered and therefor not entirely flush . Lol , I’d certainly SEEN these weird looking bits with the spring-loaded sleeve that the fairly blunt-tipped drill bit travel through over many years ! They also save time and fiddling without having to precisely pencil in the spotI’m reminded of a Pretenders song , “I shot my mouth off and you showed me what that _____was for !” Anyway , WELL worth buying one and giving it a try . I never looked back- as far as all cabinet hardware requiring screws went . Only negative (IMO) : They tend to walk off job sites , should a less-than-scrupulous HVAC guy or plumber spy you using yours ... Just kidding . Sort of . Thanks !

Looks so good. One concern I have with these doors is security. If an intruder breaks the glass he can easily access the deadbolt from inside and open the door. Is the glass specially made to prevent breakins?
