The 101 and 102 models have a SiPM (Silicon Photo Multiplier) that is 3x3mm in size. While the 103 and 103G have a 6x6mm one. That's how they achieve better sensitivity and resolution.

Somewhere well hidden on their page some extra info emerges: The 103G has a Sensor which consists of artificially grown GAGG(Ce) crystal The 102 and 103 has a sensor which consists of an artificially grown Cesium Iodide CsI(Tl) crystal So there is also a difference in crystal material

@@EgonSorensen I wonder why they went to cerium GAGG. It has HIGH phosphorescence, as you can see plainly on those guys' videos who cut it for jewelry purposes. I would think it would increase the dead time and noise significantly.

@@Neptunium Is there any ability to construct spectra retroactively? Like if you carry it around all day then notice a spike at 10:30 can you extract those hits and plot their energy to determine what it was?
@Neptunium
@Neptunium 4 ай бұрын
@@Muonium1 I think the spectrogram does that. But it's slow on the app I thought about the same thing for some experiment! There has to be a way to speed up the spectrogram to catch more events...

Another great video. I bought the RC102 just before the RC103 was released, it seems that you experienced the same thing with the 103 -> 103G... I think because they have a great base platform, each time their vendors offer an upgrade such as the SiPM or scintillation crystal, the Radiacode guys can offer an upgrade with very little HW changes. Looking at their FCC applications, I can't see anything new since the RC103, so hopefully that will get done before they start shipping...

They are busy with all kinds of upgrades! Their website is constantly changing! They also take the time to read and answer their customers concern and request which is refreshing.. as popular as they already are I think they can only go up from here! I am hoping to push radio protection to upgrade to RC for their survey.. thanks for watching!

One of the best gamma spectrometers on the market, inexpensive compared to most, often you have to spend €2000 to buy a gamma spectrometer, which will also be larger and less expensive because the Radiacode are portable and can be used with a smartphone. Easily replaces a Geiger counter if you are not looking for Betas or Alphas. Very sensitive in the field.

Hello, great video. I have one question. It's this the same thing as a metal XRF?I want to detect cadmium and heavy metals. I have a Shrek MCdonald's glass at home who is contaminated with heavy metals.

Nice to know the difference. I have a 101 and it is quite impressive I think. Fast alarms due to enough sensitivity and ability to identify isotopes, all at pocket size case.

@@juslitor I live in Europe and I can easily detect effect of Chernobyl due to Cs137 still all around. I can measure which part of bed I sleep in (due to K40). I have detected natural sources like decay products of Radon decay products in a cellar. (It gave an alarm withing a few seconds due to 0.5uSv/h or so and I had 0.3uSv alarm limit). And so on. It is pretty impressive and unlike geiger counters you can tell what it is.

I would like some mushroom pizza, please 😂 Also how do you add isotopes on an android app (i rewatched that part a few times and still cant figure it out) What ive been doing as a quick identification of isotopes was let a spectrum of for example known americium 241, radium 226, uranium (depleted, concentrated glaze, and natural ore) and thorium (welding rods and glass) and in the future i would like to get cesium 137, sodium 22, technetium 99m, and more isotopes to make more quick identifying spectrums for my library Once again great video as always 👍

You don't do it through the app, as far as I know. You do it by connecting the device to your computer via USB, find the file, edit it on your computer, and presto!
@Neptunium
@Neptunium 4 ай бұрын
You can edit it on your phone too! I used the appAPK to browse the radiacode folders but it is easier to connect via USB to tour PC. , open the assets files and find the appisotope.csv , open it as a text and do your editing. When done don't save it as appisotoe.csv again, rename it isotope.csv and that's it ..

uranium in glass should be no problem at all... it might take a bit longer if depleted uranium was used but you should be able to get a spectrum easily!
