Yesterday morning I'm on my way to the grocery store in my 2014 Silverda0, just turned over 105K. Divers window half way down, I'm hearing this strange roaring sound, look at gauges, temp on 160, like what? get out at the store and my cooling fan is getting with it. Popped the hood, my engine is cold. get back home and google- 2014 Silverado cooling fan stays on, temp 160. Search showed this youtube video, a couple more as well. So here I am. Replaced the TC and Thermostat this morning. Fixed it, thank you, thank you thank you. And thanks to You Tube. 😀

2016 Siverado - I want to thank you very much. Sensor, stat and anti freeze $81.00 at O'Reillys. The first thing I struggled with was the clip for the airbox. I didn't want to break it, couldn't figure it out and found one of you other videos that helped me. Everything rolled pretty good from there. As I was taking the sensor out it fell behind the water pump. Tried to fish it out and it went in deeper.....now it's staying in there. Everything went juts like you said, I did not have a 19 MM deep socket, but a spark plug socket worked....? Anyway, you guys saved me at least $150.00 so anytime your coming to Paso Robles, CA for wine tasting please look me up and we'll drink some wine! Thumbs up and I subscribed, I will tell everyone. Need to change my passenger door lock actuator next......

Did you disconnect the battery? Double check your work. Make sure everything is connected correctly. Are you using the correct parts? Make sure you are using the sensor and thermostat for your truck.
@SublimeTime19797 ай бұрын
Using AC Delco parts for my exact uear. I forgot to mention I replaced the water pump, the thermostat and housing as it was all one piece. It ran fine after all the above and then today 6 months later the nightmare re-occured. Yes battery was disconnected and GM premixed coolent used.
@SublimeTime19797 ай бұрын
Also of note. I found when changing oil a week ago my Coolent was low in reservoir, I have smelled coolent a few odd times. No visible leaks upon inspection. So unless you have a better suggestion, next is compression testing, then onto pulling the radiator.
@SublimeTime19797 ай бұрын
Totally the thermostat. Coolent is clean. After resetting computer the gauge wants to work again. But cold or hot squeezing the low and high hoses to radiator moves the cpplent level in the reservoir
@SublimeTime19796 ай бұрын
If anyone is still following. The thermostat plastic disintegrated near the reservoir line. Explains the leaking coolent. Replaced with Napa thermostat. One month in town driving all good. Then moment of truth. Towed a trailer. Camping. On way up i-70 from Denver the engine temps go way up. And kept bouncing between 207 and 250. Pretty amazing right. Well then I end up at a parts store. They have the premium 194 degree thermostat. Op't for this lower temp one. Pulled trailer home fine. Temperature stayed at 205ish and tranmission stayed at 194. With exception of vual pass and the Eisenhower tunnel. Conclusion: 194 degree thermostat is the only answer. Parts stores are selling us garbage. Keep a spare handy becuase these things are failing like one timeba year. R8ght after warranty expires.

Thanks for the informative video! I had the "demonic possesed fan" problem in a 2017. Scan tool showed the coolant temp rarely getting over 140F. I replaced both the TStat and sensor at the same time, about a 15 minute job. After, I realized my truck had been running cooler and cooler for a while and my mileage was dropping! 😉 I always had good heat, so I attributed it to winter weather and mostly short trips. I'm pretty sure the real problem was the TStat, but the sensor was cheap and easy enough to replace while I was there. Now the temp gauge reaches straight up and down and the fuel mileage has improved.

Excellent video which helped me address the same issue on my ’15 Silverado 4.3L V6. Be very careful tightening down the bolts on the thermostat. Torque specifications for the bolts are, 89 in. lbs. for the 4.3L V6, 5.3L and 6.2L V8* 132 in. lbs. for the 6.0 V8* *According to Chilton's manual I did not have an inch-torque ratchet so I made my best guess and tried not to over tighten the bolts. After replacing the part, I test drove the truck. When I got back, I checked the thermostat and there was a very small bit of seepage at the mating surfaces. As I was tightening the bolts, one of them broke. With some difficulty I was able to get it out but the threads got messed up in the process. Not having a tap-n-die set, I had to use a slightly smaller bolt secured with a nut. This worked well.

So... we replaced the temp sensor a month ago and still had the fan continue to turn after turning off the truck. It did not do it all the time. But it would run the battery down regardless. Then we changed the thermostat yesterday. The temp level stabilized and the fan does not run when turning off the engine, but the battery still drains over several hours. The battery does charge when the engine is running and we put a charger on it, then it will start. Why would this continue to happen? Did it not reset after the change (disconnected the battery during change).

I can't understand how the thermostat could be related to these issues. Or more precisely, how the combination of the TStat and CTS creates the issue. Forgive me, I don't mean to question your knowledge, I am just genuinely unsure of how the two could be related. I can see either one causing the fans to run or the AC to not operate properly. Stuck closed thermostat= high temp = running fans and maybe some issue with getting cool air or high temp forces the AC off as a protective measure. Bad CTS failsafe to a running fan. Only the temp sensor could explain the temp indicator never moving from 160. The sensor is upstream of the TStat right? Any additional explanation would be appreciated thank you :)
@TheBrothersWorkshop10 ай бұрын
A lot of people can't understand this issue. All I can say is that if you don't replace both, the issue will return. These parts most likely fail together. If you don't replace both right away, you end up having to eventually.
@AshtonPJ9210 ай бұрын
@TheBrothersWorkshop Thank you for the reply. This is very fascinating. I will try to relay back to you what I find. So far, all I have noticed is the following: When I noticed the issue, my first step was to remove the sensor and hook up to a multimeter. I was expecting an open or a short. I found that the sensor was reading approximately 2.5Kohms. I also found that the resistance varied as expected with varying temperatures. I assumed this was not a problem, but I wasn't certain of the specs of this sensor, so when I saw your video and the price of the sensor, I just went for it. When I bench checked the new sensor, it appeared to operate in the same range. Room temp somewhere around 2.5k and fluctuating with temp appropriately. Now, I decided to replace the CTS with the new one anyway, just in case I was missing something. The new sensor did not clear the symptoms on its own. Resetting ECM by disconnecting the battery and reconnecting it DID stop the dash indicator and aux fan symptoms. My A/C issue turned out to be one of the MANY leaking condensers, unfortunately. So that said, I did not replace the thermostat. About 4 days later, the problem returned. This time, I decided to just try the "ecm reset" ONLY. This, again, got rid of the symptoms. It has been a number of days since then and the issue has not yet returned. I want to wait for it to return again just for repeatability and maybe see if I can determine some other contributing factors. After that, I will replace the thermostat. Last, after some time passes, that leads me to believe the problem is actually solved, I would like to reinstall the old sensor just out of sheer curiosity(and because it is so easy) to find out if the problem returns. I will let you know how it goes 😆 Isolating the efforts to solve the issue, here is my summary so far: SENSOR REPLACE: FAULT REMAINS VEHICLE ON/OFF 3-4 TIMES: FAULT REMAINS BATERY DISCONNECTED/RECONNECTED: FAULT CLEARED 2-3 DAYS PASS: FAULT RETURNS BATERY DISCONNECTED/RECONNECTED: FAULT CLEARED 4-5 DAYS PASS: ......WAITING FOR FAULT TO RETURN Unfortunately, i was not keeping track of vehicle use(Start/stop, miles or time driven, etc.) during these waiting periods. I can say the vehicle was not driven every day and never for more than ~35 min.

The Difference is my truck doesn't do it all the time & Nav temperature goes up to 200 as normal. Could it still be the same issue?

Yes, if the fan stays on, it is still a possibility.

So I just replaced the sensor and the thermostat, and I turn the truck back on and my engine fan Is still on high and doesn't turn off and went to clear the codes and it says "error failed to clear codes, you think it may be an electrical issue with the sensor harness?
@TheBrothersWorkshop8 ай бұрын
Double check your work and make sure you did this correctly.
@FluttrcornfairyPGN8 ай бұрын
I brought it back in for a diagnostic, and now they said that the A/C pressure sensor and the wire harness that connects to it, is bad so I went under truck and seen the wire harness to the A/C pressure sensor, the wire is tore up, so I'm about to replace that and I will double check the work I did.
@FluttrcornfairyPGN8 ай бұрын
@TheBrothersWorkshop I fixxed it, it was the A/C pressure sensor and the the A/C pressure sensor wire harness, went to chevy bought the parts and installed it and spliced the wires, and works great now!

Refer to your owner's manual for that. I don't know what type of engine you have. There are three of them, so I can't give you an answer for information that I don't have.

Is my truck okay to drive while I wait for the parts on Amazon? Would resetting the battery be a good option as well during the time I am waiting for the part?
@TheBrothersWorkshop Жыл бұрын
It should be fine. I drove my truck while out of town on a road trip, until I was home and able to fix it. You can sometimes turn the truck on and off twice and the fan will stop.

@@TheBrothersWorkshop My 2016 Sierra did this last night. I was able to shut the motor off...then turn the key to ign but not to start. When the computor 'checked' the engine the fan shut down. I will be doing this fix today! Thanks!

My 2014 Silverado just started with the fans staying on but I have heat and A/C but my temp gauge isn’t reading could it be a relay going bad?
@wilcox23018 ай бұрын
Mine was doing this and replaced the Temp Sensor and fixed it (prior to watching this video). It came back a month later and I replaced both and my AC still won't work. I unhooked battery for a half hour after even.
@TheBrothersWorkshop8 ай бұрын
The AC in these trucks are notoriously bad. You most likely have an unrelated issue. Your AC issue most likely stems from the condenser or the vacuum lines. It depends on the year of the truck, but they all fail. It's an expensive issue that is once again known by GM, but they won't do anything about it.

You need to replace the temperature sensor and the thermostat. Disconnect the battery and everything will work correctly. Follow the steps in the video and the issue will be fixed.

The only thing I'd add to this is you can siphon out our coolant reservoir and prevent most of the mess rather than catching it. The sensor is a 3/4 deep dish.

The problem with my 2015 Sierra 1500 SLT doesn't seem to be exactly what I see on these videos. First, when the fans start running full blast, I don't see a Check Engine light. Second, if I let the fans run for about five minutes after shutting off the engine, they will finally go off, but will start up at full blast again when I restart. Third, if I reset the ECM (removing the negative connection on the battery), the problem goes away, and may not occur again for maybe a week or so. This behavior makes me unsure that the problem would be the temperature sensor, but the only alternative I can think of would be a bad ECM. Are there any thoughts about this? Thanks!
@TheBrothersWorkshop Жыл бұрын
Hey man! The problem you are describing is exactly what happens here. I tried my best To articulate that in the video. The four trucks we worked on did not have a check engine light. Disconnecting the battery is a very short term fix because the issue comes back. After turning the truck on and off the fan stays on. It also runs extremely high. I realize that I forgot to mention there is no check engine light and the fan runs high. However, this is that problem! You MUST replace both the thermostat and temperature sensor to fix the problem! I've done this fix on four trucks and I know this works for the issue you described.
