I am by no means a professional welder.
In today's epic episode, man mends metal for the first time. This 2009 Honda Civic has been in a front end collision, and requires a new radiator support. I show you how I remove the old support, and how to weld in a new one.

I appreciate the way you show the frustration of the work. Other videos make it seem like it's a breeze but it truly is not. Thanks man,

Dude I feel your pain and while it was frustrating for you, it reminds me at least that when I feel this way on the job it’s not just me dealing with it. Starting this project in a few days thanks for your video.

Dude Watching you is giving me the confidence to just do this myself lmao, I got all the front end parts just sitting around lmao.

Get up and get after it!! For me, the hardest part is proving to myself that I can do something. A fun trick I utilize is starting with something small like organizing the parts or the easiest part first. That will get the momentum going. Goodluck and get ‘er done!!

For anyone reading this DO NOT FOLLOW HIS WELD ADVICE. Look up a video or two of actual welding and the process of how it goes and how they should look when finished. Plus it is much easier using a regular metal drill bit to drill the factory spot welds out.

Hey. Ok for 1st time. A tip. The mig needs the gas at the welding area. That’s why there’s a cup for splatter also. The cup keeps the gas at your work area your welder. Most start out with a practice piece of material. Your doing it !!!!!! That’s the biggest thing.

Unless he is using flux core wire.

Great video. Like most of us, you're trying to figure it out. I suspect you've got the wrong gas for MIG welding. Are you using pure argon, or tge argon/CO2 MIG mix?

This welder doesn’t use any gas! It’s straight flux

What level or strength did you weld that at?

how did you know that the rad support was aligned correctly when you began spot welding it? Did the bumper/fenders line up straight after this?
@developmentdivision122
@developmentdivision122 Жыл бұрын
Yeah it lined up straight. Since doing this, I’ve done a little more research on doing something like this. Thankfully the mounting points for the radiator support were not damaged or moved significantly. I could see the paint overspray from the factory (they paint over the radiator support and framing at the same time I think). From there I saw where the old one was, and where the new one should go.

Your not supposed to take the tip off the welder. The copper tip you unscrewed stay there when you are welding

Great video bro!! Hey how did that little sander/grinder work? And where did you buy it at? Thanks
@developmentdivision122
@developmentdivision122 2 жыл бұрын
Harbor freight. It’s a 1/2 x 18 belt sander. Works great, but the harbor freight sanding belts aren’t the most durable. I prefer the 3m purple 36+ sanding belts.

The way the old frame bent as you were chiseling it away from the body of the car makes it look like the metal is pretty malleable. Couldnt we just pull it back into place by hand?
@developmentdivision122
@developmentdivision122 2 жыл бұрын
You could pull it. However a radiator support is relatively cheap. Pulling requires more time and measuring to get it just right.

a late response to this, from experience after crashing my 90s Honda, you can bend it back into shape but getting it to how it was is near impossible, it'll bend back out but things won't line up again, in my case my headlights were aimed too high afterwards and the bumper was pointing down despite being properly secured to the car. best option is to replace the core support with a new one, or a non-damaged one from a parts/scrap car

Is the Radiator Support one unit? OR can left side, right, top, bottom can be removed with attached bolts. I have 2010 Toyota Prius

on this model, yes. The top can be removed though. I’m not sure how it is on a 2010 Prius.

Couldn't you have just started off slow with the Drill after the punch, instead of drilling it full speed and slipping? Appreciate the video.
