If you want that rifle to run steel case open up the gas port alittle. Radical uses a .625 gas port which runs higher pressure brass just fine but the lower pressure steel case is no bueno. The nice thing about the .625 gas port is it’s softer shooting with brass case. Hell I’ve had a few barrels over the years that the gas port wasn’t even drilled. Lol. When you put the suppressor on I knew it would run the steel case. Long story short if you plan on running steel case either throw a suppressor on it or open up the gas port. Radicals are cheap guns, quality control is not so good, loose Handguards and under gassing is the price you pay….. you gotta tinker with it abit. Lol you get what you pay for. I actually get a kick out of making cheap rifles run. And there’s no way Radicals are just as good as the expensive rifles. But with some tinkering you can get them to run just fine. Don’t let the people in the comments get to you. Takes thick skin to be on KZbin my friend. Ignore the haters and the cheap gun mafia!

I have a 10.5in RF-15 -- or whatever they call it -- and I've had a mixed experience with it. When I first took it out, I noticed that the firing pin struck the first two or three rounds without fully igniting the primer, but I did a quick field strip, lubed it up just enough and it worked fine after that. Now about 400-500 rounds through it, some of it dry and other days are right after a clean, with no issues. I tend to shoot up in the mountains so dust/debris are a constant. I enjoy shooting mine, but I 100% agree you get what you pay for on these things. The polymer feels cheap, and I'm always slightly nervous about the internals. 99 percent chance that the problem is simply a loose gas block or bcg key loose. That's most cycling issue problem. The extra suppressor gas compensated for the loss of pressure from a loose bolt in the gas block or bcg key. I've chased various issues over the years. What I've learned is invaluable. I'd much rather invest in the technical aspects of firearms opposed to gucci rifles any day. You MUST know how to diagnose and fix your issues yourself. If shtf, you won't be able to take it in for repairs or ask a gunsmith. Every man for themselves.

Funny thing is the RF-15s bcg trigger cutout is compatible will full auto lowers. Usually they’re shortened to not allow the depression of the second sear face of any full auto fcu . But these things are quite literally full sized for full auto trigger sears to be depressed which is very interesting at hand and also logistically versatile.

Mine even came with a packet of lubricant. I'm not saying you didn't but from the looks of it in your video, everything looked pretty dry

My RF is a 7.62x39 model and the reviews all warned me against steel ammo too. For my model it seems to be a firing pin issue instead of gas pressure. Also the magazines they included with my model were 10 count and don't feed properly but if you get a bullet in the chamber it fires real nice.
@edwardlane96289 ай бұрын
Yes, certain firearms don't like steel. Some need to be broken in before the firearm will use the ammunition without an issue. With the bolt locking back issue might be another problem: gas, bolt carrier group, and or bolt hold open assembly.

@tsafaАй бұрын
It's not the ammo. The gun is under gassed. It's ejecting at 4 and 5 o'clock. The most likely culprit is that the gas block has slid out of position. Take off the rail and check to see if it's all the way back against the shoulder. Or not rotated Radical firearms and most budget companies over gas their guns so that they specifically will shoot Tula because they know that's 99% of what we shoot. If you keep shooting that gun eventually will stop working altogether as the gas block keeps moving out of position. Use red Loctite on the screws. This is a quality control issue for sure and I have experienced it myself with Radical Firearms. Once you fix this, you will have a reliable gun for $400.

This issue sounds like you have may a stiff buffer spring and/or a tight-fitting bolt. Two issues that go away after the gun has had a bunch of rounds put through it. Which begs the next question: how many rounds were put through the other rifles that were used to compare the performance using steel ammunition? Because if there is a significant difference, it wouldn't be a fair comparison. And, when it comes to springs, I remember once when I was given a Glock mag whose spring was so tight, you couldn't manually feed ammo into it. So, this type of stuff even happens with large, reputable manufacturers.

@RageQuit0038 ай бұрын
Thank you YT, for recommending this vid in my feed. The mag is an E-Lander btw. As the creator of several popular RF videos, I listened to this while working and had a smile on my face the whole time. Love the sarcasm! I also have dealt directly with Phil/CEO of Radical Defense(DOD division of Radical Firearms). I don't bother making response videos, because I just reply to comments directly(so I know they'll see it). I do love how commenters don't research and think that's the only gun you own. I too have shot the SCAR 16s, but not a Tavor. Two other X95's though. All my Radicals shoot steel. I can even see the armchair commenters in this videos regurgitating their misinformation. If it's short stroking, then you've got a gas problem, a friction problem or a resistance problem(ie buffer/carrier/spring weight issue). Epic rant though. Usually what I tell people is if you don't upload, then you've got no credibility. Evidence or it didn't happen...everyone has a phone camera. Don't give me that 1,000 rds/week b.s.

Thanks man. Just subscribed to your channel. You are exactly right about these people that say stupid crap. They are too scared to get into the arena and make videos. They would rather sit back and talk crap. I wasn’t even shitting on Radical Firearms. The point of the video was to point out the Cheap Gun Mafia’s hypocrisy. Radical Firearms is good enough and they don’t make any claims about being “the best” its the Cheap Gun Mafia that will shit post all in the comments talking about how it is the “best” rifle ever and they got a rifle “just as good” as a BCM or and LMT. No they didn’t. They are dilusional.

Noted. I’ve had my RF AR15 for a couple yrs now and its been running great. I ran a couple hundred rounds of brass before running steel and it has been fine with both. Am I defending RF and discrediting you? No. Absolutely not. I’ll be neutral. You have very valid points nonetheless. Simply stating MY experience with MY RF AR15. Try some more brass then some steel. A lighter buffer weight or a different BCG. I know… you shouldnt have to do this on a new item but hey Ive had high end stuff both break on me or come defective out of the box… so theres that… good video! subbed!

Okay can the 400 dollar gun be turned into a go to war rifle???? Or is it just a pos for ever. I also want to note I think rifles are being built differently. Your high end rifles are I’m assuming 6 to 8 years old. With silencers becoming more available to the public. Manufacturers have to accommodate for that fact. 2 years ago all you would hear is this budget gun is WAY OVER GASSED it gonna beat its self to death. So you have to take that into consideration maybe? Idk the AR platform has been around for a long time. You would think any company could make it and sell it for a reasonable price.
@wyominggunproject10 ай бұрын
You can probably turn a $400 rifle into a GTW rifle but at that point it would cost just as much as a Colt or another higher end rifle. But it definitely can be done.
@Johnny-jr2lq10 ай бұрын
@@wyominggunproject see I think that’s a part of the conversation as well. Yes your correct after investing money on parts you could say well why didn’t you just get a factory built rifle. The answer to that statement is everyone’s financials are different. For some people it’s easier to purchase better parts one piece at a time. Effectively stretching out the cost while still being able to train and enjoy their investment. I guess when people get all bent out of shape about their budget rifle. They are defending their own personal economic status. And that works both ways guys with expensive factory built use them as a way to “peacock” or show off their financial position. It’s definitely something that’s always going to happen rich vs poor have vs have not. Sucks but I guess that’s just the way it is. I suppose that there is knowledge in pointing out the fact. That a budget rifle isn’t as good as a high dollar factory rifle. And to be honest I think people should learn to stay in their own lane. I can mention a few times I was trying to make a informed decision on purchasing something. And the just as good community lead me to purchasing something that indeed wasn’t as good. And cost me time money effort when I could have just spent a few extra dollars and got the quality product. With that said those situations aren’t as prevalent as the opposite. But when it happens oh man is it annoying.

Damn, That is a old SCAR!!!! I wish I had bought one when they first hit the market. I was lucky to get in on the KAC SR15's sorta like you did your SCAR and I bought 2 then I had to buy one later on down the line for my Daughter. Im like you are, I have high end Firearms and Affordable Firearms. In my opinion, and its only worth $0.02, but if someone wanted a good affordable AR I would suggest S&W, Diamondback DB15, or PSA. I have hurd so much about Manufacturer's like Radical, BCA, and that Gawd ALFULL Plomer AR, I cant remember the name of that POS, but Hell PSA has there Premium AR's with FN Barrels go on sell all the time.

I'm not that mad at any AR that isn't handling steel cased ammo simply because the platform itself isn't designed for it. Some may handle it and some may not and I don't think it necessarily comes down to the quality alone..... That being said, Radical isn't exactly at the top of the heap even among budget ARs, You still have some great budget options from PSA, Ruger, Diamondback, and S&W that are a good step above Radical. I'd still be happy to own one, and wouldn't mind giving it a little TLC for the things they "forgot" to do. It's hard to be mad at a $400 AR unless it was just a complete lemon.

The only issue I've ever had with the magazine is if I bump it into the gun too hard, it goes in a little too far, and the gun won't cycle. Other than that, it works as well as any of my other mags. I've never gone the budget route on ammo and I want to reload, so I don't know how mine would do with steel. Mine ran great out of the box, and I haven't had any issues with the gun. Nothing loose, no problems anywhere during the cycle. A well-made gun. I heard that Radical had some QC issues in the past, often involving components purchased from other manufacturers, and those issues had been resolved. As I said, mine ran out of the box, so I can't speak to QC, and I have never looked into it too far. I had other guns that needed to be broken in before minor malfunctions worked themselves out. Sometimes, it was as simple as some oil; other times, it took a few magazines before things ran smooth. I'm a long-range bolt gun guy. I would have never picked one up if I had to pay more than $500 for an AR. Now that I have one, I love it, but I'm not going to drop Daniel Defense money on one, and you are the first person I've seen who likes a SCAR. I'm happy for you. There are lots of reasons why some guns won't run at first. I've just seen too many people in love with their Radical Firearms ARs to believe paying $400 is the problem.
@GenericBrandDan10 ай бұрын
It's not uncommon for any AR, expensive or cheap, home built or baught, to need a bit of a break-in period before cycling steel cased ammo reliably. If it still won't eat steel after a few hundred rounds of hot brass then check gas rings, buffer weight, recoil spring, extractor spring, and gas block alignment....
@donwyoming193610 ай бұрын
Not all steel cased ammo is equal. Barnaul is the only Russian factory that makes quality 223. The rest is underpowered and not particularly accurate in most rifles.

@Krispy744475 ай бұрын
Its definitely a gas issue. I dont remember the exact specs but a previous commenter was spot on. People say cheap guns come under gassed but i believe it's the original gas port spec from the 60s. Modern "high end" rifles come over gassed for reliability. They can push past more fowling and carbon build up. As far as steel ammo goes, steel is too stiff to fire form to the chamber like brass does. So you get slight bleed off on top of already under gassed gun. Brass seals inside the chamber so preasure isnt an issue. I have a couple radical rifles and also a daniel defense. They are not meant to compete with each other. The radical wasnt designed to handle the riggors of battle day in and day out. Its still a great rifle. Makes a great ranch, coyote, just shooting random stuff gun. On a different note, i dont understand the concept of people pulling a rifle out of the box and not lubing it. "Why should i have to?" Thats like buying a car and never changing the oil. It comes prelubed from the factory right. Most firearms ive come across do have some oil out of the box but it's meant for corrosion resistance not operating temperatures. A couple of the first things anyone should do is inspect the gun for any issues and properly oil it in my opinion. Anyways just my 2 cents hope everyone stays safe and happy shooting.

Your comment is spot on and that was my point throughout the video that the Radical is OK but the Cheap Gun Mafia will absolutely shit themselves if you criticize a budget firearm.
