The restless leg and arm syndrome would drive a person to suicide expecially with being cuffed to a bed
@BMarie7747 жыл бұрын
Ronald Forrest I had nasty withdraw systems from a medication I was actually prescribed for over two years. For some reason I was ignorant to the fact that I'd have them to that degree. I thought I'd be moody and a bit uncomfortable. Nah. Full blown withdraw. I felt like an addict. Essentially, I was. But anyways.. People call it restless leg syndrome but it's more like restless body syndrome. I'd wake up punching and kicking at the air. This unexplainable feeling throughout my entire body that made me with for death. Almost felt like my entire body was seizing up and I was going to have a seizure or some shit. If someone handcuffed me during that time..fuck. If I wasn't able to get up and do jumping jacks or run in place, I wouldn't doubt I'd get to a point where I would just start bashing my head on the back of the bed or anything I could, hoping I'd kill myself or knock myself out. I would be wishing for death. No doubt about it. You have to move. I would be begging every and anyone I saw to just kill me...I could maybe accept it if I was on some sort of chain, as barbaric as that sounds. But I'd have to be able to get up and move around. I literally cannot fathom not being able to. Even now, it gives me anxiety just thinking about it and I haven't taken that medication in a very long time. And never will again. That shit is scary.

Handcuffed to the bed and fed just bread and water? what a stupid idea. When I was withdrawing from heroin I had major restlessness and had to keep stretching my arms out for some relief (being cuffed to the bed would make that impossible).Furthermore getting fed only bread and water is a surefire way to become deficient in nutrients, and while withdrawing from opiates your body loses a lot of vitamins such as B vitamins, which is why it is very important to keep nutrition high.

There was just something about the option of drinking being taken away from me in rehab that also took away that feeling like I was going to die. I don't know what it is, but having the option gone kind of frees you from the anxiety of having to get it, so I kind of understand the whole handcuffing thing they're doing there. This is not really how you kick heroin. The least of the problems with heroin addiction are the worst of the physical detox symptoms.. so you feel so completely sick and depressed it's easier not to use. When it's really hard is weeks or months later. We can see what the drug has done to the brain, if we could, we would see it is long process or remapping the brain. You didnt get addicted over night and you cannot free yourself from it with some time. Generally speaking, the longer you stay addicted, the more time you will need.

I do not recommend stopping anything " cold turkey" just not safe. However from what I know kicking heroin or opiates (narcotics) it is hell but only for 2 weeks. Benzodiazepines....people take years to quit and I don't get why because they were prescibed it for a good reason...I heard some people end up killing themselves and cannot function for years!!! I wish they invented something for anxiety disorders that was not physically addicting. It is basically " maintaining/ stabelizing you" so you can live a life but anyone who cuts a person off these meds cold is either very ignorant or very evil. I had a er dr send me off that time my purse was stolen and she let me leave the ER with Nothing....glad I did not drive because if I had the seizure I did with my dad in Sam's club parking lot I could have mowed down children and families and would NOT be legally held responsible but the hospital sinnce I came to in the ambulance and went to ER that way. Word gets around and the bitcg DR who allowed me to leave in that condition without anything to prevent a seizure or any instruction ended up FIRED after that because she was new and all the nurses with seniority were against what she did ( or did not do...Her JOB) so obviously they were scared and KNEW she was a huge liability. I have done extremely well on methadone. No cravings since within a half an hour of my first dose, which was more than three years ago. I had to increase 5 mg last year due to it not showing up in my blood levels a few times, but it's still a relatively low dose at 40 mg. No relapses, and I receive the maximum allowable take-homes, which is 13 in my state. I was the ideal candidate for that kind of treatment, and I can live with the minor inconvenience of testing once a month. My doctors are satisfied and so is the clinic staff, so I see no reason to taper at this time. I wish it wasn't so stigmatized. I credit it with saving my life. I know perfectly well that getting off of it would take much longer (and be more severe) than the oxycodone withdrawals ever were, but I can live with being physically dependent on methadone. The important thing is that I function well at work and in my marriage and family, and that I don't obsess over my next dose, 'use on top', or take my doses improperly to get high and come up short later. Russia should at least give addicts this option, as it DOES save lives and reduces crime and the spread of TB and HIV and Hep C. MMT is cheaper than buprenorphine (and more effective than abstinence-based treatment, if used as it is intended), so I don't get Russia's reluctance to implement MMT. They don't seem to give a shit about their addicts (or about innocent babies born with birth defects, for that matter).

I kicked more times than I remember and the only time I ever puked or shit my brains out was with precipitated withdrawal taking Suboxone too soon after doing a shot of heroin, back when I was using 3-6 grams a day & had to do a shot every 3-4hrs. If I went 5 or even 6hrs I'd start feeling withdrawal. Probably did a 1/5g shot at 7am & by 5pm thought I was in withdrawal but I clearly wasn't. Last time 2 times I kicked was "thanks" to really cut or fake dope. First of those I tested for a small amount of opiates and a "boatload" of the barbiturates (I wasn't surprised, as I wasn't really good the dope I was buying. Just thought I was keeping myself out of withdrawal), and the second of those I would do a shot at 7 p.m. one day and I could go on till 7 p.m. the next day and still not really feel any withdrawal oh, so I would guess the dope what is super super super cut and it was just a psychological thing. Sorry but vigilantes beating the fuck out of dealers who are just addicts themselves living poor and in squalor is doing nothing to help anyone. And handcuffing people to beds while they go through intense withdrawal cold turkey is abusive. There’s a reason why cold turkey withdrawal has the highest relapse/recidivism rates of any method of detox. These people need hospitals, proper medical treatment, supervision from nurses and doctors and counselors. They need mental and emotional support, they need alleyways to meaningful lives, work opportunities, apartments of their own, friends they relate to who don’t judge them. Support networks. Harm reduction. Relapse support. Like this isnt the fucking 60s we know scientifically that not only is this treatment inhumane, it’s also dangerous. I wonder how many addicts desperately needed medical attention and as they said, were completely refused it to be handcuffed to a bed and died? When people go through withdrawal after long periods of time using, sicknesses and medical conditions arise that have been self medicated for ages. People can go into seizures, heart failure, liver or kidney failure, they could have blood infections, heart infections, hepatitis, HIV… they need to be screened and treated professionally and with compassion. This is not the way. This harms people. This likely even kills people.

This is so inhumane. You cant just look someone to a bed while they are going through heroin withdrawal. Withdrawal from opioids is extremely painful, not to mention all the restlessness, anxiety, vomiting, diarrhea and insomnia. They can at least put them in their own room and not handcuff them to a bed. Damn.

Withdrawal makes you desperate, but violent not so much. Usually way too weak and malnurished to do much harm to anyone but yourself. Although given the right circumstances and the right hardware, there are plenty of violent crimes committed to stop the so called "ILLS". I feel like the handcuffing is used as a reminder of how terrible the detox situation can be. Honestly for a Heroin addict and I'm speaking as one in recovery after 20+ yrs of using. Multiple methadone programs, Suboxene, cold turkey kicks in Baltimore central booking cells. The euphoric recall ALWAYS overrides the horrific memory of the kick. It's like our brain has a built in forgetter when it comes to extreme pain but not extreme pleasure. I would imagine child birth is similar, and please let me preference by saying I am in no way comparing the selfless and painful experience of childbirth to the self inflicted pain of Heroin withdrawal. What I do believe is once a mother is through the extreme pain if delivery and experiences the joy of holding her baby and caputuring that love I'm sure the pain seems secondary to the tremendous joy she feels. That shot of dope will always override the pain of withdrawal. People quit when they are ready forced detoxes, handcuffs, prisons, mass extermination (Present day Philippines) none of it works. It's an individual decision.

Cold turkey is not a solution to any addiction; even if you get off your addiction it is much easier to relapse in the future; slow gradual withdrawal is the best method to get off alcohol, cigerettes, drugs, food etc. That way you are building your withdrawal as a foundation which is much stronger and will deter relapse in the future.

First off, my dad died from alcoholism. That was terrible, and one time before he tried to quit with the most awful withdrawals I have ever experienced. My best friend is a heroine addict. It's been 19 years, and it's just detrimental. But how the heck or what do these people think they're are going to get handcuffing a human to a bed? Idk this is horrible, addiction is horrible. But to force a human being to withdrawl (in my opinion) isn t going to work. This is just so terribly sad to watch, but it's so very real. I have saved my best friends life so many times, scary that was indeed. Now, however, no one knows where she is, or if she's alive. I pray everyday no one has to go through this.

This is not the the right way to get treatment for anyone and yes I have a great deal of personal experiences myself as well as many years of aiding others in small ways. I haven't ever been a recreational user, but I have a very rare and debilitating condition called cyclic vomiting syndrome or abdominal epilepsy or abdominal migraines. While my use is closely regulated along with my multiple types of specialists and basically multiples of every diagnostic test over more then six years now and even surgery. I was ending up in the ER with a full 10 on the pain scale way too often and even had to move back home from college to have access to the doctors and care I needed. I've seen probably many many Dozen maybe even close to 100 doctors in almost every field especially since so little is known about cvs or how to treat it many were useless and hadn't even properly gone through my large 8 year medical files and tests which is really a prerequisite if a visit is to be of any help and sadly despite being specialists and being told to look over it all well in advance of appointments I traveled quite far for sometimes(which is hard for me) and they would clearly looking though it for the first time and essentially asking me for a oral summary of hundreds of tests meds and doctors I've seen over 8 years which is pointless when I have a special packet prepared for this purpose in every way in addition to the large file of test data etc. Good doctors who spend the time and know what cvs is are depressingly hard to find and legitimate pain management doctors who understand pain is real and not everyone is just drug seeking abusers. Luckily mine is excellent but not everyone can afford a private doctor with monthly $300 cash non insured visits but that's where you need to go for real care since in the current climate doctor are too afraid for themselves even if the case is clearly fully legitimate and needed. The field became so difficult and I need a private pain management doctor or I'd be in the ER weekly like I used to be and unable to function at all. Sadly without any real cure or even many doctors lack of any familiarity with my condition it was many years of grasping at straws and it was basically a random chance is the doctor I was seeing would even be if any possible potential help, and some were depressingly terrible in their jobs. You should really go as long as possible reducing before cold turkey if at all possible (not take a dose the hour before even if your not doing cold turkey and silk get subs or methadone) that's just amplifying the intensity you will go through and honestly we have better ways to deal with this these days, albeit maybe they don't wherever this is at, but they could do better than this especially since there is no medical supervision. People can die while detoxing especially from things like benzos and some other drugs and very bad effects result from this type of extreme detox, it's also likely to very ineffective in any long term sense which is saddest of all. And if these people don't want to quit or aren't truly ready this won't change a thing. We know better and we can do better so let's get out if the dark ages here...

I’ve been addicted and detoxed from well over a dozen meds mostly opiates. Whether it’s medical or not I take such high amounts that it doesn’t matter if it’s medical I have serious physical and physiological addictions stemming from my very severe medical issues, even if they stated from medical needs. Don’t you dare fucking say or even imply I haven’t suffered. Yeah I could have been clearer but I have used my prescriptions at much higher levels to be able to cope with my debilitating medical issues and have had to be detoxed before because of that. But if you have th fucking balls to say I haven’t suffered Contact me like an adult so I can literally beat the shit out of you and we can settle this like you seem to want to ‘mr tough guy’. I have detoxed from all sorts of meds and gone though far worse than that and I have in all of these rough ways like cold turkey as well as detoxed many others and I still have to use opiates today so it’s a constant battle. My prescribed doses are likely equivalent to more than most heroin junkies use in a day. So seriously watch you mouth you little shit or be prepared to back it up face to face. Where do you live around cuz I’d love for us to have a quick meetup so I can pay you what you deserve. Now fuck off bitch, you’re too stupid to undestand this subject or what real suffering is and if you ever had to deal w opiates that way than at best we are even but don’t you dare talk down to me, I’ve spent 15+ years of near sucicial agony dealing with this and I’ll bet you didn’t even see what my disease was actually like before dismissing me. Anyone who responds like you did out of the blue is just a little punk trying to pretend they are tougher than everyone for no reason at all. I’m not a monster so I hope you never do expirience the true pain a lot of us have but tbh I won’t shed any tears no matter what happens to your sorry ass no matter how gruesome. Seriously tho if your gonn keep up that aggressive bs attitude and even worse if you have tried to harass others besides me about it then you’re getting a beat down. Be an adult and let’s meet up, no guns just a fight. I may be emaciated and hurt but I’ll bet I could end you if I had to defend myself to that level. Or you could take a look at yourself and change the piece of shit you currently are for the better!) You’re not tough you’re just a loud obnoxious puppy who needs to be diciplined. Do they not understand that there is a large psychological component to addiction? It is at least 50% psychological. Handcuffing to a bed seems like one the the worst ideas I can think of. Cold turkey treatment isn't safe, is inhumane, and promotes the wrong idea that addicts are able to quit with sheer willpower. The way we treat addiction in the world at large (with a few exceptions like Portugal) is appalling.
@k1mpman7 жыл бұрын
I'm pretty sure they do understand this, the doctor was criticising their work. However, when you have no money and it's your kid that's addicted, there's very little to choose from. I don't agree with the way they do it but I can understand what made them choose the methods. I have never been addicted to something physically so I don't know how it is but I would guess sheer willpower isn't enough for most people.
@shelby83867 жыл бұрын
FrostySumo, You are correct but the method someone uses has to be suited to them, there is no one set way that will work for everyone. I agree with that "The way we treat addiction in the world at large is appalling." 100 percent. The problem is that there are people who think that the cause of addiction is just someone who likes drugs too much. People become addicted because they use drugs as a way to fix themselves or deal with stress. An addict can get through withdrawal but if the underlying problem isn't fixed its like a guaranteed relapse. For this situation though like k1mpman said there are few options especially when you have no money for treatment. Some people actually stay sober because of how hard withdrawal was for them. Not having any medication to ease the pain and ween the user makes the experience so painful that they are almost afraid of using and having to go through this all over. Cold turkey isn't safe but it isn't nearly as unsafe as other substances especially alcohol. You get to the point though where you realize you're going to die from the heroin so using a method that is unsafe maybe is a little safer than not trying to quit at all. Not arguing with you but just saying that maybe for this situation it is the best that they can do. Shoot me a message if you want to discuss further, you do have a view about addiction that many should have as well.
@annebrewer78827 жыл бұрын
This is an act of desperation. Theres no money for proper drug treatment. This is what you do when there is nothing else to be done. The hope is that the pain and suffering of detox will make them think twice about using again. Extremely expensive, luxurious rehab drug treatment in the US also doesn't work so what are you saying?

+FrostySumo Weren't you paying attention? They may be cuffed to the beds for 2 weeks but they're signed to stay in that program for a year. I'm assuming the other 50 weeks is used to drill out psychological triggers and teach them life skills to help them stay clean for the long term.
