The 10 kHz switch is used to access the “a” 11 meter channels. They used to be the remote control frequencies(for rc cars and the like). There are several on the 11 meter band above channels 3, 7, 11, 15, and 19.

Today was the day got my antenna up atop that old windmill tower it’s like 60’ up there I used a giant scissor lift ran RG213u . I got lucky and didn’t have to tune the rings I get 1.2 swr on 1 and 1.3 swr on 40 so I Started sending out and I’ve met 4 or 5 locals shooting the breeze. They recommend me getting a power mic ?.. other than that they could hear me, glad to be back on line thanks for the encouragement , cb is not dead. Love my basic cobra 18 ultra but I gotta get a good radio yet, something with more options AM-FM and such but not sure was looking towards a galaxy but who knows. I’m just stoked to be back on the radio. Gotta learn the lingo lol 73s

Man that Galaxy is a huge step up over my cobra 18 ultra it’s like a big boy radio in comparison. The guys can really pick me up now loud and crystal clear with the help of the power mic. This gentleman has fixed my old cobra 21 sold me the galaxy 33 with a mic and is even hooking me up with a basestation of some kind . What a blessing it has been to send my signal out and meet such great people. I look forward to all my peeps getting a basestation set up they have been following my hobby and soon we’ll all be up and up and on air.

The only thing I see it is missing is a port to plug in an external frequency counter to help you to set the frequency for SSB easier. Other than that, it looks and sounds like a great radio. I like that classic look with most of the features an export radio.

With that being said I have looked at the QT40 as well as the QT60 but can’t decide between the 2. I’m leaning towards the 40 just because it seems to be a simpler radio to operate to me. In your opinion which would you recommend for the first time user. I like the look a lot better than the QT60, but the QT60 has 60 watts, the QT40 only has 40 watts. I also wish they wouldn't include teenage toys like echo, talkback, and roger beeps. Having a high power radio like this would not be of any use to me. I use 100 watts on 11 meter sideband, which means you need a radio that puts out 1-2 watts max, and a 100 watt amp. I use a Uniden Washington, reduced to 1.5 watts output, and a homemade (and VERY clean 100 watt tube amp) I have a general class amateur license, but I have mostly given that up and gone back to 11 meters.
@FarpointFarms5 ай бұрын
You've got to realize that for the better part of 30 years guys were spending big bucks to add those features to radios that didn't have them. Now, everything comes that way stock!

@@FarpointFarms If you are talking about the echo, talkback, and roger beeps, I just don't understand their purpose. My Icom 718 doesn't have any of those, and I've never used them on 11 meters.
@Paulskirocks9 ай бұрын
I recently got a QT-40 so I could have a radio dedicated to 11 meters. My interest is in the sideband frequencies, so I made some programming changes. In the Low Band position, I left bank D as it was, but I changed bank E and set channel 1 to 27.360mHz. From there I increased it 5kHz for each channel, so channel 2 to 27.365, channel 3 to 27.370, and so on. By the time I get to channel 40 on this bank, it is at 27.555. I will probably program bank F to carry on from there. Then, On the H Band positions, I programmed the A and B switches similarly for the 10 meter phone band, starting at 28.300mHz, and moving up from there in 5kHz steps. And, with the fine tune button programmed for 5kHz each way for both transmit and receive, you can tune in anyone in between channels. I will probably program some 10 meter FM repeater frequencies and 12 meter frequencies.
