I have pulled over while driving for two songs in my lifetime, because of the astonishment of how different they were to anything playing on the radio back then. I heard them both right when they came out and both times I pulled the truck and landscaping trailer over...the first was "Smells Like Teen Spirit" and the other was "Creep". They both drastically affected what was considered popular music in the early nineties...

Correction: Radiohead have never sounded like Muse. Muse however, very deliberately tried to sound like early Radiohead. However since then, Radiohead went on to progress their sound and creativity to levels, which the likes of Muse could never even hope to get close to imitating.

As someone that grew when Radiohead and Muse both hit the spotlight, and loving each band equally at the time, that's harsh. There can be no argument that Muse definitely started out as a very Radiohead sounding band. They have long since been driving very different roads. Radiohead have always been the thinking man's rock band, while Muse are more unapologetically theatrical and simplistic. Muse may not match Radiohead in terms of their concepts and ideas, but i'd argue they are better musicians as a unit. Listen to Origin of Symmetry and tell me hand on heart that there is no creativity in there. Matt Bellamy's ability to mix genres and musical instruments is their biggest strength, using classical piano elements and synth with hard rock for example, and really in their prime they have more to owe to Queen than Radiohead. Ultimately Muse have been very creative in driving forward big sounds, and there's a reason they are often hailed by critics and audiences as the greatest live act on the planet right now. You don't get to that position without talent and some creative ability. Have you even listened to any of their albums past Showbiz? For the record, Ok Computer is my all time favourite album.

Radiohead preceded Muse by a few years. The greatest album released in the last 30 years may be Radiohead's "OK Computer," which includes masterpieces such as "Paranoid Android," and "Let Down." That album is epic and one of the greatest of all time. You should have the lyrics handy when you listen to the music. Here is the link to "Let Down": kzbin.info/www/bejne/kIfKeYOJrqp8p80&pp=ygUbcmFkaW9oZWFkIGxldCBkb3duIG9mZmljaWFs

Yeah, this was the early ‘90s, I think their debut single, and a big alt rock hit. Probably still their most well-known song, but they definitely went on to far more complex and imaginative work. The ‘90s also had a lot of these low self-esteem type of lyrics. So this song fit right in and then the band could grow and evolve from there.

When he was in school he was attracted to a mean girl but she made fun of him and humiliated at school. Then he wrote this song years before he formed a band, One story goes that he spotted that girl in the audience at a gig and finally got to sing it to her. But of course she didn't remember him. They say he was crying singing it to her and finally was able to let everything go. I don't know if its true but it would be nice if it was,.

When Radiohead debuted in 1993 w/ the album 'Pablo honey'... they were viewed as the British version of Nirvana. The genre of grunge rock and alternative rock was in full swing, so Radiohead fit in the scene like a glove... 'Creep' became the anthem of the year (Ironically, the US band Stone Temple Pilots also released the album 'Core' in 1992 and had a huge single called 'Creep' 😁) Muse was formed years after Radiohead and debuted in 1999, after Radiohead were already huge and had 3 albums in their catalog... More than likely, Muse was influenced by Radiohead. Radiohead wanted a more diverse musical direction in 1995 w/ the 2nd album 'The Bends'... but fans who wanted "Creep part 2" were disappointed and it sold less at the time. Frustrated by the fame that 'Creep' had given them, Radiohead made a huge gamble in 1997 w/ the 3rd album 'OK Computer'... it was more electronic music-based w/ beats and samples, and sounded nothing like 'Pablo honey'... It shocked the world by slowly outselling their debut album (2x platinum in the US) and making Radiohead an iconic band w/ an iconic album. Rather than re-make "OK Computer"... Radiohead released "Kid A" in 2000 and "Amnesiac" in 2001 and both albums were huge successes worldwide... followed by 'Hail to the thief' (2003)... Radiohead had kept up their creative and commercial successes in the last 2 decades w/ the albums - "In Rainbows" (2007)... 'The king of limbs' (2011) and 'A Moon-shaped Pool' (2016)... Radiohead is: Thom Yorke (vocals/ guitar/ keys), Jonny Greenwood (guitar/ keys), Colin Greenwood (bass), Ed O'Brien (guitar) and Phil Selway (drums)... The band appeared as their animated selves in a 'South Park' episode in 2001 called "Scott Tenorman must die" 🤣

Radiohead was the first Indi band that cracked into pop culture after Sonic Youth. Thom Yorke was on the cover of every magazine
@Codex7777 Жыл бұрын
Not in the UK. Indie rock had been in the charts for 2 decades before Creep, and Sonic Youth didn't touch the charts in Europe, at all. In contrast indie bands, such as the Cure, Depeche Mode and the Smiths had been having major chart success throughout the 80s. Bands such as the Sex Pistols, the Specials and Madness had been doing the same in the 70s. The term 'indie', originated in the UK too. There used to be a chart exclusively for acts on small independent labels. This became known as the 'indie chart'. As most of the artists on the chart made rock music, of various kinds, the term 'indie rock' became a thing. Eventually just becoming 'indie'. Nowadays the term is largely redundant, though I still hear people applying it to any music that's considered to be even slightly outside the mainstream. Even to acts that are incredibly corporate and mainstream. It's a similar story with punk. Nowadays it appears to be applied to rock act that's seen as even the tiniest bit 'edgy' and that isn't metal. Even acts like Green Day are described as 'punk', which is laughable. I like some of their stuff but they're not punk. :)

The absolute best version of this song ever (and I defy anyone to prove me wrong), is an a Capella version I saw in a club in London performed by Le Gateau Chocolat. He just has the most amazing voice. No instruments. No gimmicks. Just him in a stark white spotlight singing his heart out. The guy is a tall, powerfully built Black drag artist opera singer. The song develops a whole new depth of meaning when you know the singer has felt like an outsider his whole life.

"Creep" is a favorite among talent show contestants, and there are several good takes on the song. The most interesting version of "Creep", however, was recorded in 2015 by PostModern Jukebox, featuring Haley Reinhart ( kzbin.info/www/bejne/o2TPd2WneqZlmdk ). PMJ specializes in transforming modern songs into various styles that were popular during the mid 20th century. In the case of "Creep," PMJ recreates a '40s/'50s jazz sound, with Haley's incomparable "Jessica Rabbit" vocal magic backed by a 5-piece acoustic combo! This video has more than 100 million views!

@ModernArtery Жыл бұрын
It would be awesome if you checked out more Radiohead. Creep is good and was their first big hit (maybe still their biggest hit) but the rest of their work is far beyond it in my opinion (and I think most fans would agree). Paranoid Android is a great one as many people have said. Everything off OK Computer is excellent really, but I'd particularly recommend No Surprises, Let Down, Exit Music (For a Film), and Lucky. I also really like their album Kid A which has songs like Optimistic, How to Disappear Completely, and Idioteque. Then their album Hail to the Thief, which is a little bit less celebrated, but has some great songs like "Sit Down. Stand Up"., Scatterbrain, Where I End and You Begin, and Myxomatosis. There's lots more besides that, I'm a big fan of theirs but even I don't even know half their songs. There's so, so much good stuff going on in their songs, they are really one of music's greatest and most legendary bands. Entonces, muchas gracias, me gustan mucho tus videos :)

I've watched a couple of your vids, and I enjoy you. HOWEVER (and I doubt I'm alone), I'd much rather you pause than talk over the song. Seriously, you miss subleties that I hate you missing, when you are thinking about what you are saying, and not fully listening. Just some constructive criticism. (Plus, we can't easily hear what you are saying, when you are talking over it) I am NOT anti pause at all. I like pauses to hear thoughts. One other thing, would be that when you DO pause, go back at least 5 seconds after the pause. It helps get back in to the flow. I only say this because I personally enjoy seeing my reactor really absorb the song as they are reacting.
