Radiologic Technology at Montgomery College:
Radiologic technologists, also known as radiographers, perform diagnostic imaging examinations, such as x-rays, on patients. The job outlook is expected to grow by 12% in the next ten years, and the 2017 median pay is $58,440. Learn to become a radiologic technologist in just two years by enrolling in Montgomery College's Radiologic Technology program.
The mission of the Radiologic (X-Ray) Technology Program parallels the mission of MC. Students who enter and complete the Radiologic Technology Program are empowered to change their own lives as well as enrich the life of the local and global community as skilled, critically thinking, competent radiographers who possess integrity, accountability, empathy, a strong commitment to excellent customer service, and patient care skills while serving a diverse community.
This is a two-year program. Students begin in the summer for nine weeks (summer session), then complete fall (15 weeks) and spring (15 weeks) semesters for their first year. Students attend a second nine week summer session as they transition to their second year. They complete the program with a fall (15 week) and a spring (15 week) semester, and graduate in May. Please note that there are general education credits required for the AAS degree awarded for completion of this program.

The thumbnail shows 3 errors. The first is including the face, neck and chest in a lateral skull projection. The second is including the lower leg and ankle in feet xrays. The third is a pelvis where the legs are rotated 15 degrees external rather than internal and including the lower 3 lumbar vertebra.

I have a question for anyone in this field. I'd like to transition into a healthier career that involves lots of specialized skills but also a fair bit of physical work in a clean environment and I hear rad tech might fit the bill. How much standing, walking and moving about in a hospital setting do rad tech do in a typical shift? What about other physical duties such as setting up imaging equipment and helping to move patients physically (covid safely of course)?
@cocogoat7667
@cocogoat7667 4 жыл бұрын
Boii u don't how physically demanding this job is!! haha prepare urself to not only be standing on ur feet the whole day without resting sometimes but u move patients a lot- and so u need to ensure ur back isnt compromised as u transfer. Your job is basically to quickly and efficiently take people's xrays as much as it demands.

Pay for rad techs varies widely depending on where you live and the corporate culture there. Be sure and look into it before you spend two years in school and pass your registry only to find out you’ll never make as much as a registered nurse.

@@Jordan-vs4cy You would need to talk to someone in your local area. If you can do observation for a few hours at a Hospital, that would be ideal. Ask the techs you meet how the company treats them and if they feel they're paid fairly compared to other professions.

I see that in most countries they work 8 hours a day or 40 hours a week, in my country is 6 hours a day or 30 hours a week, and you can work 12 hours a day but then you have more rest days. My question is why do they work 40 hours in a week? They try to do it in our country too, the reason is newer devices have less radiation. And then someone is released from work because of radiation, we cannot give blood because we are in the radiation zone, etc.

@rachelletyson3041 4 жыл бұрын
@@fuckoff5616 Yes. But in NYS it depends on the employer. Nothing compensates “full time here”. That’s up to the discretion of the employer. Some consider 30 hours full time, some part time. Others 32-35 hours and more, some 38-40 after breaks basically.

@ManyThingsYT
@ManyThingsYT Жыл бұрын
Hi, to answer your question, most rad tech programs actually ask during the admissions process if you work, as they strongly recommend that students don’t work at all during the two year program because between the classroom instruction and clinical experience, it totals the time of a full time job on a weekly basis. Hope this answers that.
