The fact that the TX16S has no ribbon cables is the biggest factor for me. I had several issues with the Jumper T16 and having to reset ribbon cables. Both my friend who also owned a T16 and myself wound up having these same ribbon cable issues and we both lost trust in the radio. Never had any crashes or failsafes related to the ribbon cables, but random switches and buttons would simply stop working, very annoying. Cudos to Radiomaster for going old school with a standard wiring harness/plug. Having now sold my Jumper T16 and seeing the internals of the TX16S, I know this Radiomaster is in my future. Thank you @kababfpv for making such an in depth and informative video!!

I got a radiomaster because my QX7 gave up & am very happy so far, it's so much nicer to fly & I already feel more comfortable with it than I ever did with the QX7. The radiomaster I received had some pretty strong gimbal springs & came with a spare set too, I'm guessing they might be the softer springs, thought I was going to have to order some stronger springs so cheers for that mate :p. Just so you know ever since launch Jumper have been updating their T16. Nowadays it comes standard with USB C on top that also allows for charging and it also comes with the Multiprotocol module too as standard. Basically the T16 and the radiomaster T16S are the same radio except some small details like the more easy to hold rubber at the back and the usb c and those other connectors at the bottom on the radiomaster.

One major flaw of the jumper is the ribbon cables. I've been using Jumper T16 Pro for a while now and had 2 times now switch pairs fail on me, every time different switches and one-time roller didn't work. Every time I had to open up the radio unplug the ribbon cable from the mainboard and switch side, plug them back in then it would work again. Kinda getting frustrated by now, luckily every time it happened at home and not in the field.

I wonder if those grips on the back of the Radiomaster will fit on the Jumper? Seems like they should, as they look basically identical. Hopefully Radiomaster will sell those as a replacement part, along with the knurled metal scroll wheel... I was looking for a knurled metal scroll wheel for my T16 a couple days after I received it, I don't like the plastic one. I even looked into having a friend of mine fabricate one! Fingers crossed they sell it as a part, and that it can be swapped into the T16...

I imagine they'll be on thingverse before too long. But from what I saw later, it looks like other than the connector/cable type, the metal knurled scroll wheel should be swap-able; either way, I'm gonna try when it's available as a part. I was looking for a new radio and the nirvana seems to be the best option for me, but the one thing that's holding me back is the grip for pinchers. From old videos i've seen you have installed the 3d printed grips on the Nirvana but you didn't talk about them, how are these grips for pinching?
@Kabab
@Kabab 4 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't recommend the Nirvana for anyone. I never did from the beginning. Definitely would not recommend for pinching. I tried a number of printed grips. None were remotely as good as just a plain square controller. The best pinching controllers imo are the x9lite and then the tango 2 in that order. The x9 lite is the closest gimbal to full size and still good feel. Otherwise the only radios with full size gimbals are the x9d and qx7. Neither of which I would actually recommend. The x9 lite doesn't have a module bay but it's actually better if you use a full size crossfire. yeah I can definitely appreciate the internals of the tx16s. My qx7 had a weird click in the pitch and when I opened the radio it turned out the wire from the gimbal wasn't seated in the little slot that was designed to keep the wire out of the way... And that was out of the box. The tx16s is a lot more tidy inside too. Thanks for showing inside I really value that.

Thanks for the review, appreciated 👍🏻 Interesting thoughts and observations 🤔 Which RC would you recommend for simulators, something small and very basic, easy to travel with and with decent gimbals like TBS Tango? DJI Remote is so huge and awkward with that usb-c at the bottom 🤦🏻‍♂️ Thanks 👍🏻
@prefixcactus5221
@prefixcactus5221 4 жыл бұрын
I'd say, unless you're only going to do simulators, whatever remote you're going to actually fly with, since the muscle memory changes between different physical layouts. Otherwise, AFAIK the major contenders as a compact remote now are X-lite and tango2. Which one you choose is up to you. I have the x-lite and like it for convenience with sims, but I have to train in the sim on my T16 as well, since it has a very different feel for me.

At this point I think the BetaFPV RadioLite 2 is the very best option for super beginners not looking to spend much and play simulators and also getting basic quads up and running with minimal investment. Ill keep flying my 18mz WC/Crossfire on drones/Fasstest on 3d heli and planes. Love my Graupner MZ32 Pro that i have flew for 1.5 years under sponsorship but not that GraupnerUSA/SJ hobbies has shut down/out of business (under restructuring and no idea of when we will have a US distributor) so they are no longer paying me so i went back to Futaba. I may wind up buying a T18 Pro as a back pack radio for quads and park flyers. I have never flew these low end high performance radios. I have always flew top tier radios (starting with a Airtronics Infinity 660 when i first started flying planes at 8 it was my dad's radio and he gave it to me when i first started flying a .40 size trainer then on to a Futaba 8U computer radio then Futaba top end radio a 9z WC then 14MZ then 18MZ then Graupner MZ24 then MZ24 Pro then MZ32 PRO... Likely will fly for Futaba again under sponsorship and then will be flying a 32MZ) I really hope that the low end radios feel decent as it would be nice to have a 200 dollar radio that i don't have to be ultra careful with (18mz is a 3000 dollar radio so you won't be tossing them down lol) and could use super cheap Receivers (those 8 dollar 6ch DSMX rxs are fantastic for park flyers) Im gonna buy one and it's nice that it has a Futaba 18mz-ish case design so the feel will be at least familiar. If the gimbles feel 25% as nice as the Futaba gimbles i will be totally in love with it as a back pack radio!!!!

Had to reseat ribbon cables when I got home to get it working. 3rd time this year. Gday Bob, great info i beleive that radiomaster have put a touch screen or are going put a touch screen on there pro version like the Jumper T18 pro has but its not supported with software yet, the price the radiomaster seems awsome and as for the T16 version that you have ( Red T16 Badge is the first version) the 2.0 version black badge had the hall effect gimbals and version 3.0 has the internal battery charging and the usb c on top, but after all that the Radiomaster leaves it in the dust, great review and awsome sneak peak.👍🛸

@Kabab 4 жыл бұрын
Banggood is actually quite reliable. They're not perfect but they do offer more support for various KZbinrs than anyone else. The affiliate money is hugely appreciated and is what keeps most channels going. Ordering domestic is a bit easier since you can usually get support from someone who speaks English. But if you're not in the US, stores are limited and any US retailer will need to ship international which means customs is a bitch to deal with. Use whatever works for you but if you're going to order from banggood, at least click on links from whatever KZbinr you like because it costs you nothing and it does help them.

I found the Hex Head L tool that came with my TS100 soldering iron fits the hex screw of the gimbal spring tension adjustors perfectly. I ratcheted mine down on all three springs (full clockwise until stop) to the loosest possible on all of them, as the factory setting was like hitting a bone jarring speed bump every time you crossed any center position... klicky clack clickety klack railroad track. Goodbye to that asap. Quad pilots don't want that. It's sweet now and loosey goosey. I've been trying for days to get mine to bind to my color TV and get it to change the channels on it, all to no avail. Are you suppose to go through the CableTV box or what? DJI is the big X factor. Once you fly it, its like crack, you don't want to fly analog. And if you fly short range freestyle, like most of us do, you don't really need crossfire. And yes, we all love crossfire. And FrSky has botched everything. And do we really need screens on our radios?
