The Hall gimbal and the TBS versions come with a touch screen installed. You can test your touch screen using your Open TX software. Long press the System button (the left silver button). Page over to Hardware. Scroll down to Debug and select Analogs. When you touch the screen, you'll see an X-shaped cursor where you touch. Also, the X-Y coordinates will appear in the lower left beside the words "Touch panel:".

Happy with my TX16S.....as for the knobs, switches and sliders they feel fine and are very good quality. I think its quite a personal 'feel' thing as even comparing the TX16S back to radios I've still got from the 1990s the switch gear and pots feel well rounded and then compared to my FlySky I6 the TX16S is streets ahead on feel, detents, centering and reach for switches and so on.

Interesting point about the throttle-stick ratchet, Andrew. Yes, some of us still like a positionable throttle that's not just a smooth friction band. Personally, I love ratchets. Oh, feel free to mock me, peeps - I know what I like, and I don't care! Although I can fly Mode 2, I much prefer Mode 1 [engine and ailerons on the right-hand stick; elevator + rudder on the left]. When I was running 4-stroke glow engines I always liked light springs on both Tx gimbals and a fine ratchet on the throttle so that every touch on the ailerons didn't rev the engine up or down like an overexcited adolescent with his first motorbike. I could also set the throttle precisely when I couldn't hear the engine. A perfectly smooth, ratchet-free, friction-only throttle doesn't give any positional feedback if you're flying a long way away and can't hear what the motor's doing. Being able to give exactly 2, 3, or 4 clicks on the throttle was very handy when setting things like flaps or elevator trims when the plane was a long way off. Nowadays computer radios do everything for you mixing-wise, and you can see the actual stick positions on a pretty LCD screen, but I like to keep my eyes on the model and feel what's happening. Looking at a screen is a great way to lose a plane. People flying electric-powered models - and especially quad-copters - are probably just more used to fiddling constantly with their motor speed settings; I can appreciate why they'd prefer a 'loose' throttle. Maybe they like to sound busy. Yes, I know that hovering a quad accurately might demand a mid-notch ratchet position... But maybe they just need finer ratchets. I made my own. Whenever I flew big (4 metre+) thermal-soaring gliders I used to have the variable wing camber on the throttle stick. I found it extremely useful to have a ratchet on it. With a simple analogue radio, when the plane was just a speck in the sky it was great to know exactly where the wing camber was set. Without some kind of notched reference it would have been too easy to change the camber when turning. Anyway, that's why I like a ratchet on my throttle stick: you can set an exact variable by touch alone without taking your eyes off the plane. Carry on, chaps.
@AndrewNewton4 жыл бұрын
And now I know why the ratchet effect is built in. Thanks Elli

Nice review, and thank you very much for that. But, as far as I have been looking for, I have not seen any review with the Radiomaster (or even Jumper T16 ) with 50cc or bigger size gassers airplanes. And that is a real shame, because both companies are missing a huge amount of money. Radiomaster and Jumper should also aim, face up and shake strongly the big and more stabilshed radio companies in that niche, in my humble opinion... starting with sponsoring the best airplane gassers pilots. Greetings from south of Brazil.

Hi Andrew 🤗, another great review video from you - keep it up! I have been a big fan of your KZbin channel for many years. I am currently preparing myself for my return to model flying and I am currently very unsure which transmitter I should buy best. In the past, like you, I had the QX7 with OpenTX and was always very satisfied. Unfortunately, I decided at the time to sell these, as well as all of my other equipment 🙈. So I have to buy now everything again 😅. This mistake will not happen to me a second time 😉! However, a lot is currently happening on the transmitter market. Both the Jumper T16 and the Radiomaster TX16S have become real bestsellers due to their price-performance ratio (multi-module, color display, etc.). The Jumper T18 will soon be launched in several versions, which will no longer have the "shortcomings" that the Jumper T16 and the Radiomaster TX16S currently have. In other words, it has better switches, has a 5 instead of "only" a 4-in-1 module etc. However, and that is the issue that is currently causing me a headache when I make my purchase decision, what about future security? FrSky relies on their new ACCESS with their transmitters and future receivers and no longer on ACCST. In comparison to ACCST, ACCESS offers some new and interesting or innovative features (24 channels, etc.). But this is exactly where the big “problem” lies, because neither Jumpers nor radiomasters support ACCESS. That would mean that you can still use the current / "old" ACCST-receivers from FrSky, but not all future ACCESS-receivers !? In other words, if you choose a Jumper T16, Jumper T18 or a Radiomaster TX16S transmitter, you have a very good transmitter, but you also decide for a future without FrSky! I would be very interested in your opinion! Which transmitter would you advise under these aspects and why? Thank you very much for your feedback! All the best to you and your family and stay healthy! Ps: And of course many many wonderful flight hours & KZbin videos!
@AndrewNewton4 жыл бұрын
Thanks Dominik. All my receivers are FrSKY ACCST. Cant beat the cost, range and telemetry. I'll use the TX16S as my daily but keep a Taranis for future ACCESS receivers if necessary.

Andrew: You clearly have mastery of this radio, and I assume have a fair amount of experience with non-hobby grade receivers on beginner planes & quads. I have just purchased the Eachine P51D Mustang, F4U Corsair, and Volantex V761-1 Firstar mini planes with three 3 modes for their 6axis gyro to help my friends get into this hobby. I would very much appreciate your advice/investigation whether the multiprotocol system on this Tx can fly each of these planes instead of the original RTF transmitters. I understand that a F22 pusher jet is also now out, and appears to be fast, but tiny. AFAIK, all of these Eachine planes are made with EPP foam and nearly indestructable. I would love to see you do your quality of review on all of them. Addendum: I recently realized you did a review of the Volantex mini Firstar several years ago! Secondly, I would love your assessment whether the larger color screen of the RadioMaster TX16S is still clear to view outside in bright sunshine compared to other model's B&W LCD screens. Keep going for the gold! Jim

Your R9M antenna is mounted wrong, it should be vertical and not horizontal.
@waldemarkraus28554 жыл бұрын
It depends on the position of the antenna on your aircraft. If it's vertically on the aircraft, it should also be vertically on the radio. There's no "right or wrong" position

Vertical and horizontal on the plane, but yes vertical on the radio would be more appropriate for long range.

@@AndrewNewton vertical and horizontal on the plane is the right way but on the Tx it should be vertical, horizontal focuses a significant portion of the radiation towards the ground. Having it horizontal is essentially the same as putting the 2.4ghz dipole on the tx horizontal, something nobody would ever do but most don't realise the polarisation of the super 8 antenna on the R9M.
