PCV is positive crankcase ventilation. According to my auto tech instructor, it's the only emissions device that improves engine function. It uses manifold vacuum to prevent buildup of crankcase pressure and to draw out fumes that could contain fuel vapor.This stops oil from spewing out of engines under crankcase pressure or crankcase explosion from fuel vapor accumulation. You'll probably need to connect that PCV line to a source of vacuum but I'm sure Radium can help you sort all that out. Great video series guys; keep up the good work!
@speedacademydave8 жыл бұрын
+moto.veloce1 your teacher is a wise man. It does indeed need vacuum, and that's something we skipped over in the video. We'll address that in the next one!

Some s2ki owners and ones here from Vancouver bc use tacoma fender weatherstrips to clean up the mating edges of the asm overfenders with the s2k body. Just thought you guys would like the heads up. Great video as always. Also, downforce has an option for the signal light delete when you order those fenders.

Another option for the PCV routing is to connect it to a 1 way valve in the exhuast. Something to consider if the VTA setup isn't pulling enough pressure out. That aside, looking good guys can't wait to see you guys rip it up at the track.

You guys talk about installing an air flow plate to direct air into the radiator?
@andersw11528 жыл бұрын
Looking good guys, are you going to use some kind of inner fenders as well? Btw the PCV should normally be routed to the intake manifold not the intake arm like you showed there Pete :P
@speedacademydave8 жыл бұрын
+Anders W yessir, we removed the fender liners but those will go back in once we get the fenders painted and bolted up for good. And ya, we made a mess of that PCV routing, not to mention we forgot to mention the requirment for vacuum.

Not sure if it makes a difference because your not routing back to intake but think the inlet to the catch cans are supposed to be though the top
@speedacademy8 жыл бұрын
+Glen you can do it either way with these cans, but with the filters on top we won't be able to pull the dipstick, so we are going to move the inlets to the top and put the filters on the front.

Besides being environmentally conscious, by not connecting the return hoses from the catch cans back to the intake effect anything else either positively or negatively?

I should've added this to the last comment, but you guys should look at using nutserts/threadserts. They're cheap, and you can get a half decent install tool off Amazon for $40-80 USD. Best of all, no more precariously holding nuts in awkward positions due to the sheet metal being too thin to thread.
@speedacademy8 жыл бұрын

the rear over frender is a two peace one for the fender and one for the bumper i didnt see that you guys had that?
@speedacademy8 жыл бұрын
+Marb Lboro it's a one piece design.
@misterjordaneh8 жыл бұрын
+Speed Academy There's a fender extension piece that rivets to the rear bumper if you run an OEM bumper. The wide ASM rear bumper has the bumper extensions built in. What most people do (including me) do is just pull the OEM rear bumper to match the edge of the ASM overfender. I think it looks fine like that. I think that's what Marb is referring to.
@speedacademy8 жыл бұрын
Oh, I see what what Marb was saying! Ya, since we have the stock rear bumper, we'll have to figure out what we want to do about that. Maybe we'll pull it out to match up with the overfender. We may have no choice since it may be required to clear the wider wheels and tires.

Can you guys do an episode that talks about engine blow back because most people don't understand it and don't even know what crank case pressure is. They literally think that it goes bang in there and all that pressure is held in by the rings and that's the end of it. Also they have no idea what oil mixing with the fuel does. Smoke is the least of your issues. Dropping your RON to like 80 is what it actually does and then its knocking like crazy and ripping your crank and engine apart. All of this is not understood by most people and a critical part of people driving their engines right.
@speedacademydave8 жыл бұрын
+gus bisbal interesting idea, Gus. It definitely is worth talking more about how oil being recirculated into the intake lowers the octane and knock threshold.
@gusbisbal98038 жыл бұрын
There is that but the blow back is adding oil in the cylinder. ie the rings are leaking in effect. This is what I mean. Most people do not understand what is really happening. Especially since you can cause blow back on an everyday well made car if you over load the engine, ie hammer the throttle in low RPM cruise if your in 6th gear on the high way. Its geared all the way out for economy and the revs are nice and low and the engine is then pushed hard with more fuel against a high gear torque requirement and that is when you start getting blow back.

@Emikolaitis8 жыл бұрын
So you'll make the crank vent setup not compliant but you guys wouldn't run a test pipe with a cel fix? Aw man. One day you'll have to through on a test pipe and a better flowing large single cat back and re dyno I think it will make a big difference and just swap between that exhaust and this current one for emissions testing. Or do what I did and just put the heat shield off the stock cat and colt it around the test pipe it fits perfect and clamps the 73mm one perfectly so it doesn't rattle and looks just like a stock cat haha. Flawless
@Emikolaitis8 жыл бұрын
P.s. I'll accept those un-used rad mount as a generous donation seeing as you can only use one ;)
@Ryousure8 жыл бұрын
thats what I'm saying!!!
@speedacademy8 жыл бұрын
+Eric Mikolaitis Well the vents arent going to get noticed by cops whereas the test pipe is something the Police always look for. But one day we'll test the difference just to see if its indeed slowing us down.
@Emikolaitis8 жыл бұрын
Speed Academy haha no no I get that don't get me wrong I fully understand if a cop for some reason feels compelled to look under your car it's an easy ticket. But in no way shape or form are you compliant. Infinity ecu doesn't support any of the evap or emmesions systems like the air pump nor the stock 02 sensors and it's obvious you no longer run any factory engine management when yiu see ITB's. So my argument is why not finish her off with a proper exhaust because any compliancy is way out the window now and almost all stealth as well especially with how tracked the car will look with flares the wing wheels stance etc. If you want to just fool the eyes though do like I said, take the stock cat heat shield off the cat it just unbolt and bolt it right over the test pipe. It clamps on perfectly on my 73mm or whatever 2.75 inch equivalent is in mm test pipe. Looks just like a cat until you start looking into the 02 sensor opening.

Make sure those rear fenders are painted black 👍

+FreeWillehh We're going to paint them factory Suzuka Blue. Or do you mean black before they are painted?
@FreeWillehh8 жыл бұрын
+Speed Academy I think I meant black as the finished product, but looking at pics on google Suzuka blue will defiantly give it a sleek look
