Yep. Agreed. A lot of the times soloing an instrument or vocal can really sound not so good and like there's a bunch of stuff that needs to be done but after 24 years mixing I really stay away from making things sound awesome solo'd... That's why it's a "mix", not a "sound design" of one element.

Nice video thanks. I love alterboy and started to realised you don’t need to go crazy on the formant to get a nice useable vibe. one debate i have with myself is wither to put widening plugs on the main channel or return. I love the soundtoys microshift but can sound pretty synthetic on the main channel make me wonder if leaving widening to bus returns is safer ?

I don't agree if everyone overprocess vocals, it is a big bowl of air listening a good vocal performance with a natural sound now...obviously not for all tunes.. music is written to sound only with the production which goes with it, we gained some things and loose a lot in the meantime
