Here's a slice of my favorite David Bowie work from '69-'83. The word used for him often is "chameleon". These are all huge hits!! I hope, over time, you chose to react to some of them (or all 🤪🤣)! "Space Oddity"! His early work was quite interesting as you can tell by the names. 😊 There's several more in the early 70's such as "Ziggy Stardust", Life on Mars", & "Starman". It's a toss up between them for me BUT, I like the first one. 🤪 No doubt your subs will have suggestions. ❤"Fame" funk. funk. funk. One of my all time favorite!! 🎵❤ I love it! ❤"Under Pressure" (w/Queen) your choice is audio or a live video a fan made where they transpose them on stage together (I actually sorta like it)😊. Putting the link below where Professor shares the story of them by chance meeting up, partying A LOT!!!!!, deciding on a whim to just write a whole new song, the famous guitar riff they almost forgot 🤣 while eating, two head strong singers disagreeing over HOW to sing it so David deciding they should record it separately thus the two very different vocals 🤣, to later going toe to toe later basically amounting to creative control. All that in one very long drug filled night. But guess what? It's a MASTERPIECE! Freddie sang both parts in concert. 🤣 The lyrics are perfection, guitar riff is one of the most recognizable from the first 5 seconds, and vocals are amazing. You're gonna love it. After Freddie past, there was a concert in his honor. David hand picked the one & only Annie Lennox to sing Freddie's part. It's a glorious performance. 👏👏👏 "Changes" Ch-ch-ch-ch-changessss! 🤣 "Let's Dance" (Stevie Ray 🎸plays guitar on it!!) Classic David! Very popular! ❤"China Girl" - one of my all time favorite songs of his. David's voice is flawless in it & killer video! "Modern Love" - it's a bop! Totally catchy fun song that will have you singing with it! "Dancing In The Street" - Super cool collaboration with Mick Jagger (lead singer of The Rolling Stones!!!! 🤩) Two of the greats together!

Written in Berlin by the Wall. Bowie saw a crew member with a woman and wrote the song about them, standing by the West Berlin/East Berlin Wall.

And as David Bowie lived in West Berlin for quite a while, it‘s also a song about the devision of the city. The gunshots are a symbol (or even more)for this, also the line “the shame is on the other side”, meaning the political system of East Germany. David had a big concert directly by the the Western side of the Berlin Wall, about 2 years bevor the wall fell, encouraging the people in the East part of the town to he heroes. It worked out. So Bowie at least had a small part in the fall of the Berlin Wall. He got thanks for that by the reunited Germany. As far as I know the here shown concert took place in Berlin, quite a while after the reunification of Germany. But the Berliners don’t forget and this is why they had such a ball when David Bowie came up with “Heroes”!

The man was a genius, ever changing and reinventing, using his terminal illness as his final reinvention. 'Heroes' is from 1977, the mere fact that you thought it maybe from the 2000's says everything about David Bowie, timeless and although no longer with us. He'll be remembered as the Mozart, Beethoven or Brahms of his day. 'Absolute Beginners', 'Wild is the Wind', 'Red Sails' or 'This is not America'...Heck, even an album track would put most bands to shame.

This Berlin 2002 performance is one of his most popular. The song was written there in 1977 with Brian Eno from Roxy Music, based sonically on a track called I'm Waiting for the Man by The Velvet Underground. It's about his producer Tony Visconti dating a girl named Antonia who did backing vocals with him on the song. The two kissed under a gun turret outside of the studio. Tony was married at the time, so that was a secret for over a decade. This is David's most-covered song. Robert Fripp from the band King Crimson played lead guitar on the studio version. I believe it was Gerry Leonard here, with Earl Slick on rhythm, and Gail Ann Dorsey on bass. This song definitely expressed a part of who he really was, from what we Bowie fans know. He was romantic, intelligent, polite, kind, brilliant, and certainly had his share of issues. He moved to Berlin (switching between there and Switzerland) in 1976 with Iggy Pop to record the Berlin Trilogy (Low, Heroes, Lodger), The Idiot, and Lust for Life and get sober from cocaine and alcohol addiction. You'll hear a lot of completely different songs that sound nothing alike and each of them will still tell you who he is in some way. A lot of his songs are narrative pieces from the perspective of characters. Even more were abstract. He was a very complicated man, though this song is incredibly honest. I'm going to break down the eras of his music for you: 1965-1971 - Folk/progressive rock/blues rock/heavy metal 1972-1974 - Glam rock/proto-punk/folk rock 1974-1976 - Soul/funk/r&b 1977-1980 - Art rock/ambient/post-punk 1981-1987 - New Wave/post-disco/soul 1988-1992 - Garage rock 1993-1994 - Jazz rock/ambient/r&b 1995-1998 - Industrial rock/jazz rock/drum & bass 1999-2000 - Pop rock 2001-2006 - Jazz rock/pop rock/ alternative rock HIATUS AFTER HEART ATTACK 2013-2016 - Jazz rock/progressive rock/new wave/garage rock/Bowie DEATH BY LIVER CANCER He had a very full career, and an even fuller life. I'll be able to explain his concept characters later. There aren't many considering how many albums he has, but about 6 of them will be worth recognizing. More on that later. You should start by checking out Rock N' Roll Suicide (live Hammersmith 1973) to meet Ziggy Stardust at his final show. That's where David's popularity really got started.

Heroes was written in 1975, when Bowie was living in Berlin, "Beside The Wall". And only he could write a song about people kissing beside The Berlin Wall, "With The Guns Firing Above Us"at the time in which there was no possibility of it being demolished. Bowie also performs Under Pressure with Gail Ann Dorsey (his bass player). Gail sings the Freddy Mercury parts - which means she sings practically the whole song. She has a beautiful voice. I’ve never heard the studio version (if there is such a thing) but there are plenty of live performances to choose from.

An early hero of mine. I was 14 in 1973 and Ziggy Stardust was hung in my freshman high school locker. Ziggy was one of many Bowie’s alter egos! He constantly reinvented himself, not wanting to have one image or style. Bowie was everything from pop to rock. Tremendous recording career with platinum, gold and silver albums. Sales of over 100 million world wide. He taught my generation to be true to ourselves... even at the cost of ridicule or loneliness. If you really want to know him... there are many interviews. Very genuine, gentle soul with so much talent, it often took my breath away. I remember waking up very early on January 10, 2016, to hear the news of his death. I sat up in bed and wept. That year would prove to be horrific in music and entertainment loss. RIP my friend Ziggy! You are missed. 💔

My favorite 'live' David Bowie performance.....was right after 9/11.....when he opened 'The Concert For New York City'. It was a massive fundraiser for police & firefighters.....that aired across all the major networks & featured a bunch of big stars. Bowie sang 'Heroes' as a montage of a lot of them were shown on a big screen. His voice was so mellow & rich. An all star band backing him up.

He was a genius & one of the funniest, nicest guys. He went to meet the Queen in a suit & high heels nobody noticed. He was shy when he first started so he made people up. Bowie was a great vocalist. He had a 4 octave range but what really made his vocals special, was his ability to make real emotion drip from every syllabe. A couple of songs that highlight his vocal talent... 'Wild is the Wind' - the slightly longer album version and 'Cat People (Putting Out Fire)' - the movie soundtrack version. Beyond that it's hard to know what to recommend first. He has so many amazing songs. Probably begin with his first big hit - 'Space Oddity' - released in 1969, just before the Apollo 11 Moon landing and telling the story of the astronaut, 'Major Tom'. He continued the story of Major Tom 11 years later, in another big hit - 'Ashes to Ashes'. 'Lady Grinning Soul' is a personal favourite of mine. It's a beautiful song that closes the 'Aladdin Sane' album, during his Ziggy Stardust period. Speaking of Ziggy, virtually everything from his Ziggy Stardust album is worth a listen. It's one of the most influential albums of all time. It's worth listening to in it's entirety. Even if you do so offline. His early 70s trilogy of albums are all classics. 'Hunky Dory' is basically the build up to Ziggy and includes one of his most famous songs - 'Life on Mars'. 'The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars' is full on Ziggy. 'Aladdin Sane' is Ziggy goes to America. At certain stages in his career, Bowie created characters and would BE that character for several years. Each character would explore different themes, usually with very different musical genres. Ziggy was pure rock. The 'Thin White Duke' was all blue-eyed soul and funk. 'Fame' is a notable track from that era. After that period he went to Berlin, quit drugs and experimented with electronica and the avant-garde, producing his famous Berlin trilogy of albums. Heroes is a slightly rockier track from that time. It tells the story of two lovers, who used to meet right at the Berlin Wall. His next 2 albums see Bowie accepting international megastardom. 'Scary Monsters and Supercreeps' and 'Let's Dance' produced a string of massive international hits. Ashes to Ashes I've already mentioned. Others include 'Fashion', 'Let's Dance', 'China Girl' and 'Modern Love'. I could go on but won't, lol. Hopefully there's enough here to get you started. :)

Have always loved the way David pushes love out into the crowd. It must take so much emotional energy. What's really important is that this concert is in Berlin, reunified for many yeas now. Berlin was where Bowie lived for a few years, and recorded some of his most iconic albums at Hansa by the Wall studios. He did a concert in west Berlin loud enough to be heard over the wall by crowds in east Berlin.

Oh boy welcome to the the Bowie rabbit hole.. or better yet, cosmic black hole. Bowie is arguably one of the greatest artists of all time, musically as well as writing, acting and painting. This performance is from the later stages of his career but the song is from an earlier era. He routinely changed his persona over the years from Ziggy Stardust to the Thin White Duke and to the ultimate cool musician. After Ziggy he immersed himself into the African American music particularly out of Philadelphia and actually had an unknown by the name of Luther Vandross sing back up on many songs from that time. I had the pleasure of seeing every Bowie tour since 1980. Yes, I am a fan lol. His last album, Black Star was recorded in secret during the last year of his life during the time he was dealing with terminal cancer. Nobody knew he was ill or was making an album at the time except for his family and band members. It was released on his 69 birthday and he passed away 2 days later. A TRUE ARTIST till the end. Check out his Live Aid performance, Ziggy Stardust, Changes, Rebel Rebel, his most popular album Let's Dance and more. I graduated High School in 77 .the year this song was written and released........ Bowie was new wave before new wave existed.....he was in a state of constant evolution... when Heroes came out... the studio version was good, but the song evolved along with Bowie over the years..... by this time he was a regular guy as opposed to some of the outrageous characters he portrayed such as Ziggy Stardust, designed to shock your parents... LOL ... I wish I had been a bigger fan then I was, I remember stumbling on this live version and being blown away before he died.... he's as comfortable as he would be kicked back in his living room.... in this version the song builds, and builds.... the thumping baseline wasn't there when the song was released in 77, at this point in Berlin in 2002 when this concert was, the song is over the top..... he's having a great time, the crowd is having a great time.... just a feel good song, and yes it is rock and roll...... a very broad genre...... David Bowie, out of the blue, just taken from us.... I hate it.... RIP

This is live in Berlin. Bowie lived there for a few years and this song is about people who lived on either side of the wall (which I guess is pretty much most of the audience). At the show he's enjoying himself being back with a home crowd. He also recorded a great German language version of this

Bowie & Queen were old pals in London. He had house in Switzerland & dropped in to visit Queen when they were record ing nearby(Montreux.) He brought a good amt. of coke to share . They started fooling around musically, Deaky invented the famous opening riff, & they all went out for pizza. Upon returning. Deaky had forgotten how he did that., but Roger recalled it. It eventually became Under Pressure. The 'making of ' video is great. Also the Bowie & Annie Lennox duet at Freddie's memorial. Bowie said her singing was exquisite. It was.

He wrote the song years ago. Recorded it in studio several times. Live as well. It never materialized to what he had in mind. Then this night happened and it all came together. The words are the same and the basic song the same but played differently by the band. His presentation of how he sang the words with his inflections in his voice. Spot on. Hit it out of the park. He was so happy. You chose the right version to play. Seek out other recordings and you'll know what I'm talking about. R.I.P. DAVID BOWE. Bowie is a true Renaissance man: A Master Class in artistry. And my favorite. If you delve further you'll see that he has an extensive vocal range. More than anything, Bowie was a class act. This was right after 9/11 and the crowd was entirely first responders, fire, police personnel impacted by 9/11, one month after the attack. Bowie opened with, I think, Simon and Garfunkel's "America." David was seated cross legged, barefoot, playing something that looked like a toy synthesizer. So powerful. Only he could do this. Also did "Heroes," with a band, and again, powerful. I can't exaggerate how powerful it was. Check it out. It's a must.

You might have already been told that he's playing in Berlin. The song is about two lovers from either side of the Berlin Wall, who cannot be together until the Wall is taken down. Brilliant song!

So many great songs from this guy. Station to Station album is amazing. Low....Young americans... and *FAME* is hella fun. John Lennon is on there.

There is a lot more to this song - he recorded it in Berlin in 1977 when he lived there for 2 years, the story is about 2 lovers meeting from both sides of the Berlin partition wall (shots above their head)l, he played it at a concert in west berlin set against the wall in 1987 just before the wall fell 2 years later, with a huge crowd in the other east side listening and cheering, then again he played it at a NYC concert for the 9/11 heroes which was stunning apparently

Rad, you should do some research on him after you react to him, he was in a lane all his own.He had so many different styles of music and style. He re-invented himself and every time he did it was always a trend setting style. They had a travel ling show just all about his costumes and music. Just look at some of his album covers and you will get the idea. It will be worth your while to understand what a giant he was in Rock. Personally anything off "Ziggy Stardust" album..my fav. is "Moonage Daydream"

This is definitely rock. A lot of people make the mistake of thinking that rock is just metal. In reality metal is just one sub genre of rock. Rock is a HUGE genre, with dozens of sub genres and hundreds of sub sub genres. :)

The Man Who Sold the World/Ziggy Stardust/Life on Mars/Changes/Space Oddity/Fame/Heroes/Young Americans/Scary Monsters/Diamond Dogs/Aladdin Sane/Ashes to Ashes/Let's Dance/China Girl/Outside/I'm Afraid of Americans/Little Wonder/Black Star/ The thing is.. Not only is he prolific but he's quality. So many albums where, yes, the singles are famous but the WHOLE album is spectacular. Every song can be a favorite. Because the orchestration is dense, lush, with thought provoking lyrics and imagery, you can listen over and over and fall in love with songs more and more! That said, there are 3 albums after 'Let's Dance' that aren't up to par with what came after or what came before. They briefly chased the pop sound and it really isn't him. He eventually shook it off and went back to making more artistic and challenging music and thank goodness. The 90's and beyond albums are him back to being different and more true to himself. The albums 'Outside', 'Earthling', and 'Black Star' being highlights. Also, when he performs, he almost never plays songs the same way twice. Each time he goes on tour songs are performed differently. This version of 'Heroes' you listened to is very different sounding to the studio/album version. Bowie is all about Ch-ch-ch-cha-Changes!
