I love the look of satisfaction when you started it up :) Such an amazing feeling getting it done right.

"...haven't built or messed with a car that has an air pump". . . . .Oh to have the luxury of living outside California. On the FC it sucks from the air box and feeds the air control valve. Or as I like to call it, the "Smog Diverter Valve". You won't pass smog without it. On the series 5, I think the air pump powers the 5/6 ports. Whereas on a series 4, the ports are powered by the exhaust back pressure. Good job on that FD.

I way more familiar with the S5 air pump stuff. I built an S5 vert with fully functional intake full emissions minus the CAT convertor and it ripped. But I had issues when I set it up without the air pump.

I have your videos going when I'm in my shop. I've scoured the internet for years picking up info where I can. I was under the hood of my FD recently fiddling with the idle. It's always worth connecting the TEN and ground to reset the idle and establish a baseline. Mine is stock with the exception of an HKS DP, Magnaflow catless midpipe, and HKS catback. AWS, double throttle, and EGR removed. The FD in your video is what I would consider heavily modded for stock ECU. I ended up pulling the restrictor pills from my wastegate lines. Felt safer with 8psi instead of the 11-12 I was getting after the exhaust was done.

I remember trying to make sense of the blinking red bulb in a Volvo 240 when i first started working on cars, those were the days. Kinda funny i have never owned a car with any diagnostics my self. I don't really feel like having an engine light coming on every time some useless sensor decides to mess up. If my car only tells me if it has oil water and charges i am happy. But diagnostics sure has come a long way since that Volvo with it's blinking red bulb

Axel writes you here. Coolant Temperature Switch not good can make the car rich in fuel, you could deal with that.

TEN stands for Test Engine Numbers 😁 Kept it simple in the 90s.

DANG! I never read that in the manual! So cool its that simple!

I could tell the AWS was disabled on the other videos. It's called Accelerated Warm-up System and designed to heat the cat up faster after a cold start. Edit: When running the factory ecu, it's always best to leave as many factory systems in place as possible. You won't believe how easily some of the tuned parameters will change when you remove a system that effects air flow to the engine.
@RADPotential

That's what that is called. I always think it's all weather start for some reason haha!! Thank you!!

@@RADPotential Yea I hate to say this but that car is poorly modified to be stock. You don't EVER want a rotary idling at 800rpms after a cold start because it will take forever to put any heat into the combustion chamber. Plus the plugs will more easily foul because there's extra fuel and residual oil being slung onto them and wont quickly burn off. That's when you start having flooding problems. That's also why I never disable the AWS because the high fast idle puts a lot of heat into the combustion chamber and helps clean the plugs after a cold start with a higher idle.

Yea, I 100% agree. I will run through everything with the owner, Unfortunately, especially in the Rx7 world "simplifying" things isn't always the best move.

I believe the standard screw is actually factory for the tps. A lot of people change them to a hex style bolt

Your harnesses bring a question. I have all the wires out of the 1983 I cut up but several of the connectors just crumbled when I was taking it apart. Is the harness worth keeping at that point or should I just recycle it for the copper value?
@RADPotential
@RADPotential 2 жыл бұрын
I keep them, its nice to be able to use the right color wires if you need to make an extension. Plus if the plugs are in good shape, its worth it for the connectors.

If it was a 3000GT it would need a CKP sensor, and you would have to find a $$ OEM unit not a $30 china garbage one to make it run.

I had adjusted my tps as well. i swapped the stripped screw bolts to allen hex key ones because it was easier. that being said it was bad. I had to get another TPS because i had coolant leaking from the throttle body right on top. I wish mazda had placed it on the other side.I looked through a bunch of things getting nowwhere, and it was my throttle cable too tight it caused the throttle open freaking the car out that it had too much air another thing to adjust or check is the thermowax on the tps side. you could also adjust idle screw see if it does anything. since it needs more air for the fuel. To me the car still sounds choppy, and youre right it could just be like that from all the mods on an old ecu. mine is still stock so you can hear it purr evenly kzbin.info/www/bejne/p6eThHt8fdt8npo

@@RADPotential yup all emmissions, its still sequential, it does have a pettite racing ecu, but i dont think that changes a whole lot. I have to start the car in first gear otherwise the AWS jumps rpms up to 3k rpm.

PowerFC is junk 90s tech. Get a Haltech and let it purr
@scotty305
@scotty305 2 жыл бұрын
PowerFC was quite good when it was new, but that was about 20 years ago. The PowerFC was first available when you could buy the original Xbox, and Playstation2, and flip phones. Haltech and most other ECU manufacturers have built two or three generations of ECUs since then, but not much has changed about the PowerFC.
