My Rad Rover died, watched you video, checked my bike and had the exact same issue. Thanks for saving me a trip and expense of taking it to the repair shop. Also checked my wife’s bike, the connection was about to do the same thing.

Thank You, My RadRover 5 did the exact same thing. This morning. I hit the start up button, and nothing happened. It was the exact same problem. You have saved me a lot of grief. My vision is very poor, so knowing where to look made all the difference. Thanks Again!

You're fortunate to find a loose connection. My wife's 2020 Rad Rover ST worked great for two days, then the pedal assist (PAS) quit. So far Rad Power Bikes has sent me a new controller and 1 wiring harness. Still no PAS. The bike has 16 miles on it. Sidelined now 2 weeks and waiting on Rad's next move.

Great post and apparently a common issue as I had the same issues early on with my two 2019 rads. I ended up tightening the connections with pliers so they won't come loose and have never had the issue again.

Great post. Suddenly ran out of power tonight after riding over a low curb onto a gravel uphill path two miles from home. I ride a lot on bumpy grass and short curbs; so, am going to check all the connections in the morning. Ebike is preowned but only six months old.

You can totally see in the video the barrel connector is apart! Happened to mine and I rode 4 miles back no power. That sucked. I pulled that wire out of the bundle so it doesn't get pulled apart anymore. No more issues!

check the fusses on the battery. 40amp ( for controller ) and 5amp ( for charger ). located on the battery - the side that slides into cradle.

We just got 2 of those step thru rovers. One did have that connection not screwed in, the other lost it's motor and controller after only 8 miles. Rad is sending me out new parts so I have nothing bad to say about the customer service. Glad your issue was a simple fix!

Thank You for this Post ? On two separate occasions I had a brief power failure while riding off road on a mountain trail Hitting bumps though by the time I got stopped it came back on .I now have 735 miles on my Rad Rover Step Thru 1 ,and Guess what ? Yes that Silver Screw together wire was not tight ,it was loose . I bet that was the problem . I guess I should check all the connections .

yeah had the same problem, had the wiring zip tied too "tight", my connector would come undone when I turned the front wheel too sharp, clipped some of the zip ties and repostitioned them to allow much leeway for the front wheel to turn. problem solved, almost 1200 miles on my Rover so far, love it. getting ready for hunting season this fall, strengthening my legs and skills on the trails. look forward to it this year.

I just went through the same today with the EU version, the Radrhino 5, I changed fuses, did the connector checking routine as the troubleshoot page suggested but nothing worked, after a quick google you inspired me to inspect the wiring further, after I cleaned all the mud and grease off the magnets and sensor that I spotted while on my back looking, it turned on! The blind sensor must have been causing the break in the circuit? Thanks for the inspiration 👍

When I replaced my wiring harness, I rerouted the shifter and brake cables out of the frame, so they're not in the way. Everything works no matter how much I turn the handlebars

I have the same bike and noticed a couple of time's after hitting bumps the power went out. I stopped and turned the battery off and waited a minute or so and turned the battery back on and everything worked. I think the connections sometimes when hitting a bump might get jarred.

These bikes are put together by small groups in china trying to make profit, sometimes they do a pretty shitty job on the connections that's all. Easy fix and learning about wiring is really great for future upgrades
@himydad14994 жыл бұрын
Well, by sharing this video you surely will have me think about the connections in case of malfunction before doing other stuff. I only had a fuse (battery) problem once with the bike. But that wasn't the case here, else all the lights on the pack wouldn't have lit up. Rad do have a good online-support service. I've contacted them once after a part was missing when I lost my front wheel (my mistake) while riding. They send me a new piece for free. Maybe you should consider contacting them in the future before dismanteling the bike or swapping parts. Enjoy you rides !

I had the same thing happen about a year ago. Checked the connections and the problem was exactly what you experienced. My power was cutting in&out. No problems since. I always check these connections before riding, the vibration from road will un-do them.
@backyard3749 Жыл бұрын
Same exact problem. But unfortunately, that silver connection is fine on mine. I have checked every connection on the bike now and no fix. The only thing I have NOT checked is that there is apparently one INSIDE the down tube and the rad power site says to pull that one out. Uh...I do not think that is a good idea. So, gonna hafta call Rad tomorrow and see what they say. Thanks for this vid, good idea to check connections, but did not help in my case.

Okay so I’m not alone here. My battery connector pins burned out and that’s what Rad Power Bikes says is the reason but they not covering it. I had to rewire my bike with new controller box also. I was on vacation in New Orleans from NYC when it first happened. I think the outdoor temperature as well as the controller and motor and battery heat are factors as well.
@melvinbelcher76063 жыл бұрын
There may be a connector in the frame. Turn the handlebars left and carefully work your wires down until the connector comes out. You will have to carefully remove the upper and lower grommets

RAD is crab! As long as it works, it's ok. But way overpriced! You have a breakdown? Call RAD customer service several times and wait for months fir the right replacement parts. You are not supposed to figure out and trying to find out the error for hours. It is not customer's job! For the overpriced price you have the right to get good and fast customer service.

Almost bought a used 6. I'm glad I didn't now. 500 miles on it, the tires are almost worn out already. The reputation of this company has gone down the tubes. 15 months waiting for a new controller for an almost new bike that has faulty wiring? Really?

Hey man, as I watched your video I couldn’t help but think something looked totally wrong about your wife’s bike. After staring at it for a couple of minutes I notice a problem. The handle bars stem is on backwards and is facing the wrong way. And her handle bars are swept way to far foward. I hope you can get that fixed before you go riding again. It must have been very awkward for her to ride it like that.
