Great to hear from a non type A anxious person! It was a period of prolonged stress due to family circumstances that brought on my long covid/cfs including parenting a child with additional needs. It’s putting continuous stress on the body that causes it from what I’ve seen

Great interview as always! So I am still going through the thick of it with my long covid....MCAS or CFS whatever we all got lol And I just gotta say Ralean you are saving lives, Thank you SO much. I came across one of your videos a couple months ago and you have been a guiding light for me ever since. Not to mention what a great interviewer, you are so thoughtful and considerate in the way that you speak to us and the person you are interviewing. and so authentic and open-minded. and I love love love that your interviews and your channel don't focus on one specific way of getting better or one specific type of person. Your channel speaks to all of us and I appreciate that so much. Also want to thank Sarah for sharing. wow I mean this is really what I needed today. ugh my journey has been brutal like most are. I am also not really a type A person. but i think that's because I don't think I ever really lived truly to who I am. I definitely have perfectionism but i don't think anyone around me would think that. And I'm realizing I really lived by what others thought of me instead of listening to myself. and I'm finding out, I'm a pretty cool lady haha. so in my journey, I have this happy amazing big fun Irish family. But after getting sick, when I needed support from them more than ever, instead I have never felt more alone. And you just don't see that, like I would expect to see that from a broken family but not mine! And I would hear stories of people getting better but they had a family that wanted to help (which I feel is very normal) um, but my family has not been that way for me. And I felt like since I dont have a healthy support system with my mom and my sisters, other family memebers whatever, well maybe I won't get better. but that's so false lol About two weeks ago, I just had to make a big decision for myself and I had to stop talking to my sisters. NOT AN EASY DECISION I love them they were my best friends, and I still love them and maybe some day theyll make things right but for now, for me, I had to make that decision...It was scary but then a couple days after doing that, I started noticing parts of me coming back. parts of my personality. This creative confident goofy ass part of me that I haven't felt since I was a teenager. Also started sleeping better WHICH we all know is huge. I MISSED MY SLEEP oh happy days. ANYWHO. These past two weeks there were parts of me that still were like "you can't do this on your own! Abort! Must get family support!" lol oh that rhymed lol but I put this video on and it was the best reassurance telling me I'm going down the right path. Not that you need to cut family members out but that Im finally putting myself first. So I wanted to just tell you thank you thank you thank you for coming on Raelans show. And thank you Raelan too, all of your interviews have been helping me❤🙏

Hey Jane!! This is a beautiful share. It touches me. First, I agree - Raelan is absolutely saving lives. I am so excited she is now offering her own program. And, I am so glad that my experience was also helpful to you!! That is so cool and makes me feel great, thankyou for expressing it. "I don't think I ever really lived truly to who I am" - yeahhhh, I am only NOW doing that and yeah, it does feel amazing and way less exhausting! I'm so excited you see that, because that is the beginning of getting to your true authentic life whether or not, and to what degree, it includes family. You can find your "tribe":) here with Raelan, and wherever else that may be for you as well, or create it. I am creating my own tribe, and you are welcome to join! ❤

Thanks for another great interview! RE: "type a" personalities, I think at the end of the day any kind of long-term stress will increase suseptability to me/cfs, whether that comes from personality, internal/external expectations, trauma, etc. So, much like the "perfect storm," it's less about the particulars and more about processing/reducing/resolving stress the best we can -- which means everyone has a shot at reducing symptoms and improving quality of life.

Thanks for your comment mrsi! I appreciate that I'm not the only who doesn't always relate to that storyline/personality type. I believe that you absolutely can recover ❤ yeah it's physical right? Research shows a link between adverse childhood experiences and chronic illness later in life, usually the type A personality traits are actually trauma responses and coping mechanisms that can become unhealthy

@breezylyn21689 ай бұрын
How do we get better ?
@underachievingoverachiever9 ай бұрын
@breezylyn2168 there's no one way, but I think it really all comes down learning to feel the fear and not run away from it, which is really difficult to do. I believe this is why pacing can sometimes work because you increase activity in a way that doesn't seem too overwhelming and gradually learn you are okay. It doesn't work when you're terrified of your symptoms though because you'll train your brain that any discomfort is bad. That's the trauma response- these feelings are terrible and I must get rid of them.

Thank you so much for this video. And thank you so much Sarah for doing this interview. I am currently going through me/cfs (undiagnosed as of yet but pretty sure I do) and, although, I am worse than I was when I was little, being exhausted/tired is something I've been ALL of my life. I don't remember a time when I had a good amount of normal energy so this video is superhelpful! I also worry and question that when I get back to my "normal" that's still not going to be enough energy to live a normal, average life so it's difficult to imagine being better and having more energy than I have ever had before. Lots of things resonated for me in this video and I'd love to see more videos of situations like this. Again, thank you so much!

I am so sorry to hear about your pain, and at the same time I really appreciate you sharing that! Because I don't hear that a lot - pain being on only one side. It is interesting right? Like what would cause that? I also appreciate how you don't identify as type A and yet have some characteristics that could be similar. I can relate to some characteristics - like being hard on myself as you mention. Writing out my negative thoughts and then talking or writing back to them is helpful for me to be kinder to me.

Sara what youtube channel did you use when you found soma breathing?
@EmergingForward9 ай бұрын
What do you mean? If you search SOMA Breath on youtube you'll find it. I don't remember the exact video I first stumbled on. You could also google Niraj Naik SOMA Breath meditation he is the founder. He actually was very sick himself, with ulcerative colitis, and ended up embracing these ancient pranayama techniques and more to heal himself (he used to be resistant to them, and very science based only, he was a pharmacist previously). My exact beginning with this was: I was watching one of Raelan's interviews with someone talking about Soma Meditation or something? and in looking for that, I happened to stumble on this. Sorry if I didn't understand your Q correctly!

I don't think the available energy level is necessarily what defines that "type A" personality type, as I also identify as having ME/CFS as a child. But the mental process of never being good enough, constantly pouring every ounce of energy into trying to find safety through validation, is the personality type that drives this illness.

I laugh because it’s a type a personality parent that then produces the child Such as this beautiful young woman. The type a personality is still there it’s just in a different role it’s the parent or the society or the school or even the boss❤ The type a personality parent creates perfectionism in their child summer able and become a type a personality and summer not able to actually do that and will it can land in their body with anxiety and depression and illness. The child of a type a personality will become the people pleaser the eternal care keeper the one that does overextend and sacrifice for others and their own children and burn out. And yes you nailed it that perfectionism comes out of shame and so often shame as what we wear when we are the child to say a narcissistic parent and often there’s a lot of trauma in that type of parent child relationship. Yes and the loving relationship feeling heard and safe that’s such a healing space and yes I was probably one of those calling you out in the comment section but it’s good to be aware of that because we distance and sometimes what we actually need to do is actually connect with the right person for the right people for the right group. So now I get to use you as a Soma breath instructor well that’s pretty cool❤

@EmergingForward9 ай бұрын
Hi Breezylyn, I am sorry for what you're going through, I remember the desperation. Of course I can only share what worked for me and I am not a doctor, and it's different sometimes for everyone. I did recover eating whole food plant based, hydrating with lemon water in the morning, eating fermented foods, intermittent fasting. I had heart palpitations and one thing that helped was breathwork - intermittent hypoxia can benefit your heart by improving circulation due to dilating blood vessels and increasing heart rate variability (an important measure for strength of heart). This of course should be learned safely with a certified instructor if possible, or there are many free videos from Niraj Naik that are very informative too (he is the founder of SOMA Breath).
