Rafael Mendez - El Gitano (from Cowboy)

Rafael Mendez was featured in a scene in the film Cowboy starring Glenn Ford and Jack Lemmon in 1958. In the scene, Mendez is sitting at the bar in a Mexican cantina playing El Gitano. It's a very beautiful rendition of El Gitano. Too bad he didn't get to play more in the movie.

How respectful is that of the director... to not use dialogue during the bar scene while a genius of the trumpet is playing his heart out. Bravo to the director.

i dont think trumpet players just sat in bars with the cow boys in those days id be pissed if i were a cowboy (if i didnt no it was Rafael i mean =))
