Certainly this technique can be learned at the club level. Practice is everything. With a dedicated student, coach and X hours of practice this can be mastered. Of course if you believe you are a simple recreational player then you are doomed to failure. Meeping an eye on the ball through the shot helps to prevent framing the ball. Easier said than done, again it requires countless hours addressing this simple point. Thanks Florian for such an excellent footage.

Thanks Florian. What you and others describe as: laying back, lag, coiling, flexing sure looks like good old PRONATION on his forehand. Hard to tell from the angle of video but looks like the relationship of wrist to forehand stays fixed until after contact? Is this pronation the same or different than when serving?

Interesting thought! I noticed that when I did a trial of rackets, I chose an unusual one, Prince tour 100, 18x20, similar to David Ferrer (think he uses the 16x18 version). It's very low power. I can still hit offensively with it, although I find that I like it to help produce a more consistent/easily controlled rally ball. Not many coaches comment on rackets so I'm curious to hear more of your thoughts related to such a racket. I'm ~a 3.25 player these days.

If you find a coach that tells you not to even try pros techniques, then turn around 180 degrees and run!!. It is "easier" for them to teach the "recreational forehand". That is mediocre at best.

Pranav Hari not such a big difference really as both use the straight arm FH. Nadal just tends to get below it more on avg for more Topspin and uses a bit more aggressive grip.

At winning points? Nadal's forehand hands down, not even an argument, if you want to hear talks about beauty and those kinds of stuff than Federer enters the conversation. Nadal has the best winner to unforced error ratio ever on the forehand, I think his forehand has already been descirbed as the most effective shot in Tennis history. But I wouldn't advise anyone who's not a professional to emulate him, as hitting with so much top spin can generate injuries.
@fabianviljoen9809
@fabianviljoen9809 4 жыл бұрын
@@chtomlin There is another difference in Federer's FH he hits with less spin in comparison to Nadal's FH. Which means Federer's FH has more pace. Nadal uses the reverse FH frequently in comparison to Federer. Federer only use the reverse FH when he is in need to use it.

Nadal is definitely semi western. That's why it looks weird when he brings it back, because it kinda looks like a full western position, but his sharp 90degree wrist angle is creating that (also the weirdness)

It's definitely laying the wrist back and then snapping it forward, pretty sure that's flexion of the wrist through the shot.

No professional hits a forehand so weird and yet powerful in the history of tennis like Nadal does. As a tennis coach, I won’t suggest my students to emulate him and won’t recommend anyone to use his racquet. His rather stiff racquet is designed for him and his style. You certainly can’t have a Federer-like forehand using Nadal’s racquet, which only fools yourself but enriches its manufacturer. ★★★★★

You have a decent racquet at a decent price, son! The racquet certainly meets your needs and wishes as a 3.25 player now who is going to be 5.5 player like me by the end of this decade. However, you need a decent hybrid string of polyester mains (e.g. Solinco Tour Bite (Soft) at 50 - 55 lbs tension) and multi-filament crosses (e.g. Head FiberGel Power at 55 - 58 lbs tension). Remember, your racquet is only as good as your string. Not many coaches comment on strings. ★★★★★

People are saying that no one but professionals should try and do this cause your timing has to be impeccable but that's not the case, even Nadal's timing isnt that great, which is exactly why he's forced to hit the buggy whip shot all the time, he hardly does that shot in practice when the balls are slow, but in a match he uses the buggy whip as a defensive shot because his timing isn't good enough to drive the ball and finish over his shoulder, you can use this technique but no matter how good you are, the timing is always gonna be an issue.
@uchihasasuke7436

Definitely not. Nadal buggy whips by choice and it helps him gain the upper hand in spin production.

I use this same technique, but what I know is this... your arm must straighten out because after the racket drop you're suppose to rotate your arm so that your thumb is facing behind you, this is what makes it look like he is creating the lag. Then the opposite elbow (not-hitting elbows) pulls in which is what activate the shoulder rotation and eventually the hip rotation... which activates the final racket lag and flex. The wrist must be loose and your arm must remain the least active part of the swing for wrist lag at this point. When you see his racket wobble behind him, it looks elastic almost, that is just the looseness of his wrist as his body uncoils.

I teach kids this stroke using a stick. Much easier to get the lag with a stick. I use a wood dowel from home depot and cut it to 30 inches. Having the high drop and still getting the lag takes tremendous timing. The racquet must still be moving back when you start rotating forward to get it. Going back with the racquet up 45 degrees instead of 90 is much easier for us non pros and it is still better than a straight back or loop swing without that lag. In 10-15 years this forehand will be standard and the pros will be doing something different. The game keeps evolving.

i dont think they wil do some different or will evolve much because bio mecanics of power has been already studied with modern tehnique and sensors, for the human body its maximum that u can do so the basics will remain the same starting the move after racket drop with already gravitational speed added rotate torso and legs then slap the ball and finish the move front over shoulder.this is the golden rule nothing we will change that unless u are playing robot instead of human
@imateapot51
@imateapot51 8 жыл бұрын
agradina Well for one, pros do not lag on the backhand. And most woman pros do not lag on the forehand. That will change.
@agradina
@agradina 8 жыл бұрын
of course lag is included in biomecanics basics because it is natural to lag when torso and legs push the racket but lag is not forced by your hand it is natural,otherwise he could go to injury.I myself lag a lot on my forehand , i dont know about backhand if u could detaliate it will be interesting
