I remember being here at this match when I was in Year 8 , my favourite player of all time is Paradorn so little did I know his opponent would be one of the greatest of all time to do it :) He may be the king of clay but his biggest moment will always be his first Wimbledon against Federer :D

Paradorn is a rare talent and really the best 3 players from Asia. Him and Michael Chang and Nishikori have ever made top 10 on the men's side. A great talent who deserves at least one grand slam.

For those curious, Nadal had only just turned 17 here, was already ranked 76 in the world, had beated Moya on clay in his previous tournament (who had won the french open several years prior) & had been in multiple futures or challengers finals and won one. honestly, over 20 years he didn't change that much. his forehand/serve preparations became a bit different, but i think what he changed the most, and for the best, was addressing his play style and playing a few meters behind the baseline, also when he is returning

Sampras had technically signed up for Wimby 2003.......but realised that he was way out of shape and form to make an eventual appearance and finally withdrew as the 2003 tournament began. Of the big 3 of the last 25 year generation(Fed,Rafa and Djoko).....only Fed got the chance to pit his skills against a true grass court player-Sampras. By 2003....the other elite serve and volleyers -Edberg,Mac and Becker..... were long gone.....paving the way for fluff like Hewiit(who Becker beat in his penultimate match in 1999),Phillipoussis(who lost to Edberg at the Ozzie in 1995) and Roddick(who lost to Sampras at the US Open in 2002)....to offer the opposition for Fed and co for the rest of the 00s at Wimby.

Ignorance anyone? Grand slam means winning all four majors in a calendar year. The media embracing a catchy phrase have changed it to mean any major. It matters when Rod Lavers magnificent achievement of winning all four in the same year TWICE, is never credited, and the young do not know this. Rod Laver THE G O A T. NO one comes close today.

The Snooty English commentator saying cheeky things like he could do better and being quite dismissive of young Rafa … BBC better at picking commentators and pundits who don’t seem so overtly stuck up nowadays … nice lack of commercialisation around the court and the kit . A more innocent time. The shorts pulling, the passion and the grunting are all present this early from Rafa but his preparation into the serve is very different - the short way up to the power position … 🎾

Jesus Christ, Rafa had a full set of hair here, and so did Srichapan, how badly Rafa got old errrhhg, even Federer still got a full set of hair at 43, Rafa looks like a 50 year old man almost bald, and Srichapan probably aged badly too, I'll have to see a picture of him currently, to make an assessment.
