Apart from the Northeast Corridor, long distance passenger trains in the USA have a reputation for very lengthy delays, whereas trains in China usually run on time. In the USA, the purpose of public services (transport, health, energy supply, etc) is the generation of profits, whereas in China it's providing services to the people.

And in the US people pay very high taxes like personal income tax, sale tax and also import tax if items are imported. But the Chinese pay much lower tax or not paying any tax yet the Chinese government is able to provide super infrastructures to the people.

Public transport in the "big" cities such as NYC and Boston and Philadelphia and Chicago and San Francisco exists because without that public transport, the "inner cities" of the aforementioned cities would be total gridlock if the public transit did not exist. THAT is why all the different commuter trains and metro/subways etc. are HEAVILY subsidized by the governments as they ALL operate at losses.

US rails are aging. The unstable rails contribute to most of the shaking. I remember riding French trains in the 80s. You just bought a ticket and rode. If there were no seats then we stood up for 6 hours! Sometimes, we slept in the walking corridor. People were considered though. Rafa, enjoy your travel.

This would be a very difficult and money-draining task for the US, due to 1) the low population density relative to China, and 2) the resistance of the airline industry. Even California has no clear path to achieving a HSR line due to land acquisition hurdles in the San Francisco Bay and Los Angeles metro areas-without them the line is rather pointless

The biggest difference is that in the US and Canada use the same rails for freight and passenger trains and freight trains get priority over passengers trains. China has different set of rails for freight and passenger trains so there is no delays !

It's not fair to compare US trains with Chinese Trains, because : 1. Train travel is a major part of transportation in China, which means the government will focus more on that; meanwhile train travel is not even an option in ppl's mind in Ameica. 2. Train travel is part of the public infrastructure, and Chinese government is not using it as profit tools, and the Train department is in huge debt; meanwhile anything in the US should be profitable, goverment and ppl won't elect a party that will simply loosing money. 3. In the transportation aspect, not much countries are able to match with China. 4. Its like compare a nice patato with a spoiled candy, they are both food, but totally different thing.
