TheRealCritique So what you're saying is that to be a good drummer, you have to take swing lessons even if you'll never play swing?
@Johnny666610 жыл бұрын
***** No - he's suggesting rock drummers develop some practical knowledge of jazz rhythms and techniques in the hope it will inform their playing in other genres (and give some 'swing' to their rudimentary rock vocabulary). As John Paul Jones said of John Bonham: “Bonzo had very broad listening tastes. When we weren't listening to James Brown or Otis Redding, he might be listening to Joni Mitchell or Crosby Stills Nash & Young. Bonzo was a great lover of songs.”
@albitcapinigro110710 жыл бұрын
Yup. Old school rock drummers like Bonham, Moon, Paice, Mitchell grew up on big band music and you can hear it in their playing. They swung. Not a straight, linear feel like Chad Smith and other drummers from his generation.
