I noticed that too, and it’s disappointing. Thankfully, he’s not the lyricist for RATM, Audioslave, or Prophets of Rage. I can only hope that he does it more out of appreciation for artists he admired, rather than totally agreeing with them. well i mean that’s kind of the predicament of punk as a genre. traditionally it was very left wing and progressive, which makes sense as it directly opposes tradition and conservatism which the “machine” usually is. now that mainstream politics and culture have accepted some progressive ideals (not all of course the modern democrats are still undoubtably inauthentic capitalists masquerading as progressives), is it more or less punk to give up those progressive ideals and instead oppose them simply because they have become more mainstream? for example, killing in the name is very anti police which was a pretty brave statement to make in the 90s, now that it is more popular to be anti police, should RATM simply change their previous stance on the matter? in some ways basing your political stance on any issue simply off of opposing whatever is currently popular is the least authentic and punk thing you can do. This is just one example of course but it can apply to any number of punk/progressive topics

Their music was a staple for me growing up, and i will still listen to it with fervor and nostalgia, for it is good music- but i will never respect what these dudes turned out to be. Sellouts and corporate mouthpieces. Imagine telling a Rage fan in 1999 that you had to take the latest Pfizer vaccine or you weren't allowed at their show, youd never believe it. Signing to a major label was controversial, selling merch was controversial, many of their far-left views were controversial, and being a band that generated personal profit was also considered controversial. There's no decision that any member of this band will make that isn't controversial so this decision falls right in line with the band, each member, the message, and the integrity of all the aforementioned. As a fan, im glad at least one member showed up. As a super fan, I wish every member showed up and created havoc. However as a mega fan, I am proud every member did what they felt was right in their heart. Thats what the band is about, and that's part of the message this band has taught me. Long live Rage Against the Machine.
