Fun fact. Cobra and Beverley Hills Cop were based on the same script. It was decided that the original script didn't have a consistent tone, hence Stallone requested it be rewritten as a hard action movie. Another rewrite went the comedy route and was then pitched to Eddie Murphy as BHC.

The best thing about that is that they both turned out to be iconic much like many of those other great 80's films

1:07 Valmet M78/83 (the Finnish RPK) in its original 7.62x39mm. That same gun, supplied by the same theatrical armory, also showed up briefly in Predator. Sven-Ole Thorsen used the "S" version in 7.62x51mm in Hard Target. 1:50 Perfect except for one or two details. One, too much "Eighties hip-fire" (which was even spoofed by HISHE). And two, hand grenades ought not be stashed sloppily on the D-rings of a vest rig. They should be stashed in pouches. 2:12 You're basically paraphrasing what John Carmack said about stories in video games. I don't necessarily agree, but whatevs. 4:25 Cops don't stash pistols in their pants except in movies. They wear them in holsters. 4:46 As pointed out by Decker Shado (oh, the collabs you two could do!), the Night Slasher was originally going to be called "Abaddon" in reference to the Angel of Destruction mentioned in the Book of Revelation. But Warner Bros., to quote Decker, "banked on the assumption that the audience is dumb." 5:15 Brian Thompson 6:33 Ackchyually, he had the ultra-80s oversized laser marker off for that scene. 7:26 Those mountains look like the Phobos skybox from the original Doom (based on the Blue Ridge Mountains). 9:37 Sly's politically ambiguous, wherea's Arnie's a R.I.N.O. (after all, he renewed the ban on .50 caliber rifles in Californistan AND revealed his order-mongering brownshirt colors during the pandemic). Sly also thinks Jobama is "a great guy." None of these Big Hollywood tough guy types live up the reputations they present in their movies. 10:10 McNulty from Trancers standing next to Scorpio from Dirty Harry. Art LaFleur (who we Gen-X B-movie fanatics will always know as "McNulty") also played Babe Ruth in Benny's dream sequence in 'The Sandlot'.

I always thought the plot to these films were just a little underdeveloped. The (small) plot to Predator was perfectly balanced, it wasn't too detailed, but it had enough to keep us grounded. I'm not saying turn an action film into a soap opera, but give us a plotline to stabilize expectations imo. I would still take these 80's flicks over 95% of anything coming out today, so I don't think I'll complain too badly.

I was there- 15 years old when the summer of 1986 came around. The summer of Top Gun, Ferris Bueller, Aliens, and NO, FUCK ALL THAT SHIT. COBRA. You would have sold your organs to see it? I practically did- this was the movie that led me to accost anyone I found over the age of 18 near the entrance of a movie theater like I was some crack-addicted street hustler selling himself like a greasy bucket of chicken, only in my case I was asking them to take my money and buy me a ticket so that I could get into an "R" rated movie and see the fucking movie that started the summer and incidentally BEGAN the tradition of the best 80s action movies taking place in L.A. during the Christmas season (refer to Lethal Weapon and Die Hard). Eventually I was able to see this movie 5 times that summer. I started wearing black long-sleeved henley t-shirts and paid $5 for a pair of solid black aviator knock-offs that were so dark they would have been illegal to drive in if I had gotten my licence yet. Notable that this cinematic masterpiece was the #8 movie of the year in box office returns, grossing nearly $50 million- blowing Schwarzenegger's "Raw Deal" out of the water (only grossed a hair over $16 million).

Razor, you're talking from your taint about the First Blood novel. The man in the movie is soft compared to the Rambo in the novel. The Rambo in the novel isn't the poor, picked upon, downtrodden, clean shaven underdog. The man is a ragged but ready for war renegade who eagerly kills everyone who crosses him, just to show them all 'his stuff'. He doesn't let them off with wounds and warnings, he efficiently eliminates the entire police force. He destroys the entire town and murders hundreds. The movie had to soften him up a LOT to make him more sympathetic for sequels.
