The Indian B40 community suffers from high school dropout rates, higher crime rates, and low employment rates - but instead of calling it an "Indian Problem", maybe it's time to look at how we could address these issues as a country.

The main fault lies with our Indian politicians. They are not interested in developing the Indian community but filling their own pockets and that of their relatives and cronies. The NGOs' entrusted to develop the Indian community should have no political connections at all. And the NGOs must be audited by a neutral entity to ensure there is no corruption. Why is there never an audit on temple committees, after they do receive large sums of donations. Where does all this money go to. ?

Vanikam brother, same goes to Dayak Sarawak (in addition other bumis of Sabah & Sarawak), while the political personel didn't stand for their own people. They only bring candy during election. For what the research says, the community have badly effected by economic restructuring by Malaysian Govt. These is exactly happen to Bumis Sabah & Sarawak and even worse, while their homeland dig up(oil&gas,timber etc.) just to fulling corrupted political pockets, and the people pay for the consequences. The hopes towards any Govt becoming faded especially towards Malaya Political Party and we as Bornean will have to say goodbye to this Corrupted Federation.

Be informed that the 17% of the Indians in Malaysia contribute to more than 20% of the economy as they are hardworking. I'm a Malaysian Indian and trust me it's not the countries fault that my fellow Indians do not pass their exams , it's their own fault as they choose not to excel or change the fate of their lives , I've also seen amazing indian doctors and pilots who came from a poor background or an uneducated family. So it's all up to the individual if they want to succeed. Sadly my machans think that being all rowdy will get them through life.

And also, Indians fight among themselves. The Malaysian Indian community is always jealous of one another. It's always a race to see who has a better education, career and salary. I'm proud of being a Malaysian Indian but seeing my community rival each other makes it hard for me to hope for things to change for Indians in Malaysia.

Yes similarly the core of the problem is also due to themselves not motivated enough to do more in life.. some of us started from dirt poor families and still managed to presevere through life to be successfull... the problem is the environment whereby the families and relatives not prioritising education.. no amount of help or money can be given to solve problem related to the attitude of the community.. somehow the successfull indians needs to give back to their communities to change their mindset and perspective in life to put education first.. same goes to all communities

One more thing I would add is the social harmonic gap within the indian community itself. Example, if there are two families of indian live in a non indian majority area, instead of supporting each other, both families would prefer to establish a bitter relationship between themselves. Feels like the caste system still have impact on malaysia indian society. True story. Can ask malay or chinese how many times they had to calm down these kind of disputes among indians. Despite all circumstances, I believe they could be better collectively, but it have to be done within their community itself first.

@@gobi6773 As a Malaysian Malay, Tamil is foreign people in Southeast Asia. They are not ASEAN natives like the Malays/Filipino/Thai/Khmer/Indo. Even in Tamil native island of Sri Lanka they get heavily massacred by their own Buddhist indian sub-ethnic of Sinhalese, not to mention in Malaysia🇲🇾 where our sole official language is Malay, our sole official religion is Islam. Chola Empire is petty and weak, they ended can't even established their own Tamil Independent country n has to incorporated into Indo-Aryan-dominated United States of Bharat(India). Tamil people has lived and contributed to Myanmar 🇲🇲 (an ASEAN country of British ex-colony too like Malaysia) a lot during British imperialism era and they once outnumbered the Bamar-Buddhists dominant natives in the cities, unfortunately they ended get mass expelled after WW2 out from Burma and the rest treated as "resident aliens" despite being bordered with India and nearest non-indian state with the Chola Empire. Why suddenly wanna claim Malaysia? Even in Kadaram ,the Tamil can't no longer have Thaipusam as their holiday and we the Malays Bumiputra aka ASEAN native will do like how Sinhalese did to Tamilar Hindus if they cross their limits here in this Malay land+ex-Brunei sultanate (Sarawak)+ex-Sulu Sultanate (Sabah). Even in East Malaysia and East Coast states, their population can be counted by fingers. About Malay Arabized and Islamised language,🇲🇾💞 It's just like how the Filipinos's official language, Tagalog a spaniardized and Christianized Malay (despite has Spanish, Tamil and Chinese loan words), the Filipinos are proud with their identity and no non-natives ever question the sovereignty of their national language of the Philippines 🇵🇭! Chola fleets used to reach till there but none of that r remembered nowadays. Malaysia only has this pottek sentiments bcuz the Malays accept and treat these immigrants humanely despite being Southeast Asian native unlike their own indian sub-ethnic of Sinhala. We have a similar problem with Pakistanis in Uk .. 1.5% of the population accounts for 14% of national prison population mainly for drug dealing and child grooming (91% ). They also make 14% of the mentally handicapped population because of cousin marriages. Edication is free and compulsory for all but it has made little difference to them. They are burden to society because disproportionately more has to be spent on them than they contribute. I would rather have the Indian society rather than exchange them for Pakistanis. Sometimes one gets the impression they are on a Jihad to rob western communities for their warped ideologies.

primary school is not free. u need to pay school fees, PIBG fees, then additional fees the school may ask. on top of that school uniforms have to be purchased. heck some school charge for school badge and even PE clothing. additional books besides the school textbooks also have to be purchased. if u are behind in class, and can't afford to attend private tuition it makes the situation worse. in some places, schools especially tamil schools are dilapidated and a student has to walk so far to attend school as they can't afford school bus fees etc.

Lets talk about the truth, necessity and effectivity of the concept of Malays being the bumiputra of this land. The history of this land is common knowledge. Yet, it is categorically surpressed by the goverment and made into a highly sensitive topic about which none should even question. Physical evidence is destroyed and the people are fear mongered into submitting to the status quo. Its amazing how even the Malay language being mostly made up of Tamil, Hindi and Sanskrit words does not open people's eyes. This is the power of categorical indoctrination or brainwashing. The divide comes due to religion. The act of not accepting the Indians and Chinese as equal citizens at the time of independance is one born out of fear, is archaic and Malaysia must leave it behind in order to progress as one united Nation. Otherwise, racism will always remain and marginalisation will always remain. We the so called non-bumis are not seeking to be above anyone, but only as equals. I was born on this land, i am a putra of this bumi.
@maninaction21
@maninaction21 5 жыл бұрын
I think you are not seeing the reason why this is a sensitive issue. This was our home since parameswara discover melaka. It always has been. The reason why we malays cant accept equal view is because of that issue. We fought for our freedom but fail miserably. We loose a lot through out history. Then the brits take in the indians and chinese into our home. which really pisses us even more. To achieve independance we have to put aside everything just to take back our long lost land. That is why malays like me are very very very sensitive talking about bumiputera issue. Its hard to take it in but facts taken from history must be accepted with open hearts. We can tolerate other races coming in to achieve independance. Why cant you guys tolerate on the bumiputera issue. Just a thought for the mind. I'm just explaining why bumiputera is very sensitive for us, so that people would know.

Regardless of Malaysian Indian, Malay or Chinese communities, we have to learn self-reliance. Nobody can help unless we help ourselves. Government shall adopt an open approach to facilitate those work hard to change their living standard like giving license to operate, leasing lands for those who want to be a farmer, ensuring basic living needs such as electricity & clean water supply, proper roads and affordable housing. Again, regardless of races, any Malaysian win, it is the success of Malaysia. Malaysian Chinese companies successfully help the country earn billions dollars of foreign exchange in 2020 from the rubber glove business, especially important when the covid-19 strikes and very low oil price.

Jayakailash Menon I agree all Malaysians should learn Mandarin if they could because what do you have to lose? Only benefit right? Sadly, many private sector employers use “mandarin speaking” not because they’re dealing with China companies, but because they favour their own race and are unable to communicate effectively in Malay or English. This is Malaysia, not China. If Malaysians cannot speak and write in Malay then it is a huge problem, both politically and socially. For the most part “Mandarin Speaking” in job adverts is simply a form of racism. Why? Because those companies do not wish to accept and comply to Malaysian culture, language and way of life. Secondly, Chinese and Tamil schools need to be replaced with sekolah Kebangsaan. Look at Indonesia and Thailand, the Chinese there speak the national language even at home. Heck, they even have Indonesian and Thai names. In Malaysia we are lucky.

It's partially true. In Malaysia,the Sikhs, Muslim and Christian seem to do very well because many came in as merchants. Even the Sri Lankan and North Indian Hindus do well. But Tamil Hindus were not fortunate. Tamil Hindus were brought in as indentured labourers to work on the estate farm and many still unable to escape the poverty trap in the country. What's worst is that Sikhs and Muslim don't want to identify themselves as Indians in Malaysia.

As a Malaysian, it's the Indians own fault for failing in school. Focusing too much on Tamil Movies (which often portrays Gangsterism, etc). The only people to blame for failure are the people themselves. Nothing else. I come from a family of doctors & engineers. No one else is to blame but themselves. The mindset must also change too.
