I find that watching the sheep shearing is relaxing😊. Who'da thunk 🤔😂. Some of them seem relieved once they're done. All I can think of is a nice warm, cozy blanket, made with some of that beautiful soft, fluffy wool😅. Good job❤
@HelenMcCallisterАй бұрын
You've mentioned the list of things the family went through in previous videos on this herd, but I think this is the first time I've heard a time frame. 18 months?! O.O I figured it might have been spread out a little further apart at least. The sheep are honestly in amazing condition under that felted mess. It is heartening to know that they've still managed to keep and care for their animals despite everything. You even mentioned they tried shearing some of the sheep themselves in a previous video and how unusual it is for them to have matted up so quickly. I'm honestly just happy the sheep are clearly loved and safe, and thanks to you and your wife, much more comfortable.

I follow a homestead family who plan on getting sheep for milk. I told them the most important thing to make sure they have is a good, reliable shearer. Love your content, been watching for a few years.
@hillockfarm8404Ай бұрын
If they plan to milk they'll have a milktable to do it on and those work for shearing and trimming feet if you want to do that yourself. And no you don't need to do them all in one day or even a whole sheep per day. Looking silly won't bother the sheep. And a good pair of scissors, patience and good light will get the job done with sheep standing up and flake of hay in front of it just fine. I had sheep with a rooing coat (shetland and shetland X soay) not all coats roo all at once, so yes some would have a naked butt for a few days. Just be alert on sunburn or long chilling rain if you end up clipping really short, might need to keep them inside for a week.

It’s any wonder you both stay so trim. There is now way to get chubby when you are dealing with this kind of mess. I was a vet tech in Houston for several years. We got called out almost daily to do emergency shears on sheep, llamas and alpaca. We did what we called the “dirty deed” on many felted sheep etc. we simply went in with manual shears and hacked (and I do mean hacked) off the felt. We just took off the felting to get the animal comfortable until a real shearer, like you, could come in and do a good job. We had no illusions about our shear job. The sheep looked like pieces of popcorn and the llama looked like we drew Jon Bon Jovi with my left hand. They would send us reaction videos of the shearers first sight of our work. We’re talking knee slapping, rolling on the ground, giggling wildly through the whole shear. What took us 17 minutes with manual shears, took them 3 with electric shears, excessive laughter and not a single nick. Ever since then I’ve had mad respect for shearers. I’d ask if it might has been you and Darian, but I’m pretty sure I’m old enough to be your mom, so I don’t think it was you, but it was two women. But Katie! You have mad skills, so does your wife! Total respect from an old exotic vet tech!
