Unsolicited reaction suggestion: If you haven't already seen it, give the "VHS" film franchise a watch. I watched the first one by chance, I ended up liking it more than I thought i would. The movies get more intense, bloody/gory as the series progresses. I won't spoil them, but I can say that what I've seen of the 4 VHS films I've watched thus far, they are NOT Blake friendly. If you guys ever do end up watching them, count how many times Blake's says: "I HATE THIS!!"😂

Subtitles are on the screen as part of this original film. I have no idea where you guys found a version that doesn’t have them, but it did change a couple things, just with the characterization of the kids. The next film you need to be sure you have the original version with the subtitles, the story is not easy to follow without them unless you are aware of ASL or BSL.

@@garnet0101 I worked in the medical field for 13 years and have been present as a birth partner during deliveries for 2 friends. Bleeding during birth is PERFECTLY normal. Bleeding EXCESSIVELY is not normal, of course, but the amount shown in this movie isn't a lot. Aside from bleeding from the perineal tears involved from pushing something the size of a small watermelon through a hole that's usually the size of a lemon, you also lose blood just from the placenta becoming detached from the uterus. In general, it's not wise to speak as an authority on subjects you don't actually know much about. I suggest you consider this.

Ok.... DEAF PERSPECTIVE... 1. She doesn't wear hearing aids (HA), she uses cochlear implants (CI). Big difference, but I totally understand why they're interchangeable to most folks. 2. Hearing aids have an earpiece that goes in the ear canal, and a hook-piece that goes over the ear, like glasses, and hangs behind the ear. The part behind the ear is a powerful, very finely-tuned processor that is calibrated to each person individually. People who lose their higher registers (soprano) might have those sounds amplified, whereas people who have lost deeper sounds might have theirs calibrated to balance out sound. Some of us use them because we've lost some or most hearing, but they don't help as much if the hearing loss is severe. Batteries are expensive, and rechargeable versions are in the $600 range. I have moderately-severe loss in one ear, and ZERO hearing in the other. I wear a hearing aid on the ear with zero hearing, which translates the sound and bluetooth's it to the hearing aid on my other ear, so I almost have surround sound now. 3. The girl in the film has a CI: which is a device somewhat like an HA, but it is surgically implanted into the brain/ear-space where sound ripples across these microscopic "hairs" that sound runs though the cochlea (looks like a tiny TINY spiral/snail shell, and our brains use those fine hairs to "interpret" sound in our environment into recognizable patterns, like voices, music, glass breaking, etc. Because it's not a direct interpretation, the sound is quite mechanical and "tin-can-like" and people who once had even SOME hearing have to re-learn how to interpret sounds, which takes a lot of work, and a LOT of patience. The hook part (like an HA) is only different in that it hangs on the ear, but it's only there to hold the CI in place. If you see, hers has two parts connected by string, one is the computer/sound amplifyer, the other is connected to the part that hangs over the ear to prevent falls. The circle disk part is the computer which amplifies sound, and stays attached to the skull via magnets. The disk portion sends the sounds into the piece that is surgically implanted deep in the inner ear, and the brain translates that sound into something recognizable. It is NOT an exact science, it doesnt always work, and is NOT REVERSIBLE... so once that surgery is done, what little hearing they have left is severed. 3b. Hearing aids are about ... $2,000-8,000 - not including batteries (about $50-150 per year) and the cost sometimes includes regular maintenance. CI's however, are between $10,000 to $80,000 and need to be adjusted occasionally, the batteries are generally rechargeable and included, but I'm not familiar enough to know about maintenance frequency or how lomg they last. 4. People with severe hearing loss usually wear hearing aids AT LEAST to hear sirens/wee-woos, so at the absolute most, they help "suppliment" sounds for safety, while others use them to clear up voices and smooth out communication issues. Both HA/CI are essentially made worse in crowded places with lots of background noise. The more noise around, the more the HA/CI picks THOSE noises to amplify over a voice or other sounds, becoming more detrimental than helpful. 5. The "enhancements" that HA/CI give us are not a "fix" ... and one of the more annoying features is the ever-crushing squeal (like two microphones too close to one another) if we fall asleep or hug someone, and our (what I call) "proximity alerts" go off squealing like mad. I can't hear myself talk without my HA, but one bear hug is all it takes to know how that squeal feels when it's directed INTO THE EAR. Annoying, yet effective. In school, I didnt fall asleep in ANY class, for fear of setting off a proximity alert. It's essentially the squeal of two mocrophones too close together and the sound is sent DIRECTLY into the brain-pan, and, as these creatures can ageee, it's painful! 6. Lastly: DON'T WATCH THE NEXT MOVIE WITHOUT CAPTIONS! In fact, if you DO re-watch the first one before moving on, DO SO WITH CAPTIONS so you're more immersed in the conversation. 7. When I watched this with my family, A. I had to remind them about captions so we could all have equal access to the movie... and B. They kept looking over to me every time asking "is that what they really said!?" every time someone's hands started moving. The signing was actually VERY accurate, and if I remember correctly, the cast all kinda lived together or spent a LOT of time together to learn ASL before production even started. 8. Last one: captions aren't just for us Deafies... they're actually a universal way to include EVERYONE. It's especially helpful in movies like this, AND FOR REACTION CHANNELS IN GENERAL because (IMHO) the biggest circle of hell is reserved for those who talk over the whole movie and ask questions that are ANSWERED IN THE MOVIE because they didn't turn the CC on.

Resonance - I'm in no way claiming to know the root cause, so when I say resonance, I mean, the amplitude effect seems to be at play with the hearing aid device. Corey mentioned a feedback loop, like with a PA system. Resonance ties into kinetic and potential energy but with amplitude in this case. One system pushes the other, causing another object to vibrate at a higher amplitude. That's what we saw when the creature goes haywire.

There is absolutely NO way that kid has survived this long in this scenario without having had the danger explained to him multiple times. He just isn't old enough to fully understand it. So what you're saying honestly doesn't make sense, and sounds like it's based on a limited experience in dealing with young children. The criticism of having the youngest child walking at the back of the line where they could not see him, that is valid. I've made that point, too. But to truly believe they've survived months of this and never ONCE turned to the kid and said, "Hey, stop being loud, it's dangerous," I mean. . . come on. That just doesn't make sense.
